How to brew a Home Redeye | 3-Cup Chemex and 3-Cup Moka Pot
I've been combining a 3-cup Chemex and a 3-cup Bialetti Moka Pot for a while and have found that they make an excellent stand-in for a redeye. Even though a moka pot is not as strong as a true espresso shot, using the larger volume in the moka pot makes it taste extremely close to what you would get in a third-wave coffee shop. I know that neither of these tools are new to the coffee world, but when I thought to put both of them together it blew my (apparently very simple) mind. Hopefully this can broaden someone's horizons, if you liked it or have found some other method for doing this please let me know! Thanks for watching!
P.S. I know the lighting is horrible, I just had to work with what I had.

Ferrocerium Rod 100-Strike Wear Test | Uberleben Kraftig Review
Переглядів 1 тис.6 років тому
I've always been curious how long a ferro rod would last, so I threw together a quick test and did a before and after measurement on an Überleben Kräftig XL Firesteel using 100 strikes as my test. This is obviously not a precise experiment, and is more just for my own curiosity. I'm slowly adding to my collection of firesteels and general fire starting methods, so the more I learn and test thin...
3-Cup Chemex Brew Guide
Переглядів 61 тис.6 років тому
A (relatively) quick and simple guide/tutorial on getting the best results from your 3-Cup Chemex brew. I am no barista, and have essentially no professional training when it comes to brewing coffee, SO, take this whole thing with a grain of salt. Everything I say and do is just what I've done after watching almost every video guide and reading every coffee house blog guide I could find, trying...
Überleben Zünden Pro Firesteel Review
Переглядів 2,5 тис.6 років тому
Here's my short and basic review of the Überleben Zünden Firesteel. I've really loved it so far, and as this was my first video of this type, I'm sure I could have done a lot better but it was still fun to make so oh well! Like I said at the end, let me know if there's anything I missed or anything I should have done better. Thanks for watching! Camera: Canon SL2 Lens: Canon 18-55mm f4-5.6 IS S...
Slow B-Roll Test

I filmed some random stuff in my back yard and tried to make a short video out of it, just for practice. Camera: Canon SL2 Lenses: Canon 18-55mm f4-5.6 IS STM and Canon 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS Song: Down there, I'm sure \/ #NoSmallCreator
thanks!, always the tutorial use the 8 or 6 cups
somehow i can never throw decent sparks and the scraper just digs into my finger.
Have you actually done a taste test between just pouring water and pouring/bloom/ pouring just at 9mm from the edge? 😅
What’s is your thoughts on the three cup Chemex vs the next size up? I only make one cup at a time, but hey, you never know if you have a friend or family member want a cup of coffee.
Do you recommend the cloth filter? It comes in a two pack. Reviews on Amazon are great.
Welp. I think it’ll be too complicated for me. I’m not sure I’ll keep mine.
That's cool, I kinda wish I'd got that one I just purchased the smaller pro model with the wood handle I guess it will last a while just not as long as this one you reviewed ..
This video helped me so much with learning how to use my Chemex. Thank you William!
Thank you for using the 3 cup Chemex. That is the one I purchased and I really like it but felt like maybe I should have bought the 6 cup. It is nice to see someone else making instructions for the 3 cupper. 😊
There's a scale right there, just weight your coffee beans :)
Not bad, not precise, but all those imprecisions may offset in a positive way, so worth trying.
great job man
This’s still very helpful, thanks
Sooo.. it's basically the same of the V60 method?
Why did you Stop.. I watched till the end btw
Why did you stop reviewing
Kucherov??
@William Rockett Any comment of which version you advise to get - PRO, Fatty or Trad?
He has the time, just doesn't have the money. Bialetti Moka pots are not true espresso. No moka pot is. A Moka pot doesn't brew nine bars of pressure. The moka does like one or two bars of pressure.
Thanks for this, super helpful. What I find weird is how far the filter goes down into the chemex. I am unable to get past the nipple to make a full 3 cups because the filter goes down too low. Any tips? Am I folding wrong?
So never having used one, how do you fold the filter? Might have shown that in the video. Thanks!
Great tips. Thanks for the video. Any tips on making the coffee hotter?? I find by the time all the pours are complete and it’s time to drink, that it’s lukewarm! Do you pre-heat your chemex with hot water ever? Cheers
Usually the rinse pour does a great job of warming the Chemex itself, maybe try adding more of the hot water when you’re doing that step and it could help. Thanks!
Handy guide! I've never used a Chemex before and will try it out!
Great vid but that mug looks damn awesome ❤️
Nice guide. I would add a step to gently break up clumps of dry coffee with chopstick or spoon handle during the bloom and let it all degas, so you dont get large bubbles during the next pour.
Thanks!
Thanks for the video, it was really helpful!
You have a scale but don’t have a coffee to water ratio ummm that’s not good Btw my favorite ratio is 18:1 For each gram of coffee i use 18 grams of water Ex 300 grams of water over 18 gives 16.5 grams of coffee First pour is 50 grams of water The second and the third are 125 grams Enjoyyyyyyyyyyy ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
But I came here to learn how to fold my filter 😭😭😭 Edit ** I’m sorry for being so rude - I came back after I learned how to fold my filter to say thank you!! Thank you! ♥️
Me too. I still can’t figure it out. Lol
Enjoyed your video, and appreciate the budget friendly approach to the red eye
You nail it! There is nothing more needed for a nice cup of coffee 😍 the rest is woodoo 👻
Seriously? This is ridiculous
Care to elaborate sir? You seem passionate about your opinion.
Hi. What is the brew time after bloom or total brew? I assume less time for less coffee? Thanks.
Highly recommend leaving your boiling water for around 10 mins before pouring, or adding 15% more cold if you're making it immediately. Using boiling water leads to a burnt taste, but cool the water a touch and you'll avoid it
I have a $500 home espresso machine, but I still have my Moka pot and recently bought a 3 cup Chemex (to drink filtered coffee once in a while). 3 Cup Moka Pot + 3 Cup Chemex + Double Espresso = THIRD EYE.
Thanks I’m going to collect from Black Rifle Coffee Company a 3 cup chemex can’t wait ... I gave up drinking alcohol a while back and found a passion for coffee. Good tutorial thanks man !! 👌🏻
Dude BRC is trash, they are swindlers, liberals pretending to be conservative. They betrayed thier entire customer base several times over the last year. Worth looking into if you dont believe me.
@SK No, they are anti 2nd ammendment
Black Rifle is anti 2nd ammendment
lovely video, thanks so much :)
Good video. You did skip the origami folding of the filter. But nice video anyway.
True, sorry about that! Thanks
I have the same Burr Grinder. Do you use the setting you landed on in your video?
Yes, I do. Feel free to try a setting or two to either side, though. I noticed that after using that grinder for a while, the grind setting almost seemed a bit loose and will be slightly more coarse/fine depending on the direction I turned the bin.
I thought I was the only one taking crazy pills. This is our second grinder in three years because I experienced the same thing. It is the best grinder for the money, but I have noticed it does get a little loose overtime. It’s almost time to get another one. Thanks for the tips. I am working on them now.
Its not super long but, it's a pretty good length. Sounds like me. I like me. I'll take it!
Ha, I completely forgot I said that!
Thanks for the review! Trying to decide which version I want. Maybe all three!
The only one from them I don’t have now is the Hex one, but they have all been excellent so I doubt you can go wrong!
+1 for the Hyrule cup!
Totally left out how to fold the half moon filter in this tutorial. 🤷🏻♂️ But still glad I watched. Get my 3-cup tomorrow. 👍🏼
Yes and that’s why I came here - I’m used to the big guy so didn’t know how to fold this one!
thanks
Thanks for this, just what I was looking for.
do you discard the bloom and rinse water?
Only the rinse water. Any water you pour over the grounds should remain in what you drink.
Maybe a stupid question but how do you discard the rinse water? Great video though!
@@brianjbertschLeave the filter in the Chemex and simply pour the water out of the spout. Maybe swirl it a bit before pouring to warm up the Chemex.
Great guide, thanks so much! I just got one for Christmas and have been looking exactly this!
I’m glad it could help, hope you had a Merry Christmas!
Beautiful eyes!!
I thought you had to be a scientist to get a good cup from a Chemex. Good job making it seem more approachable.
I’m glad it came across that way!
So much better tasting coffee than what I had been producing. I just got this Chemex and it’s been my first time using a pour over and it’s been some trial and error. Wonderful video. Thank you!
Very glad to hear it!
Almost turned the video off when you said you don’t weigh your coffee beans. I’m glad I didn’t because it’s a cool video
Well I’m glad you liked it!
