Something I remember from Smallville is "If your intentions towards Mrs.Kent are anything other than honorable, this amicable father and son detente will come to an abrupt end." I was blown away by that line because it was delivered so well!
@@JoJo-cy4tb Lex did, to Lionel. Mrs. Kent had taken a job working as an assistant for Lionel and Lex was concerned about Lionel’s intentions and issued a thinly veiled threat.

They were born for those roles. Millions and millions of people watch the shows again and again and they gotta be thinkin, "wow I am moved," not just by the writing, acting, and production value, but by the synergy they all had. Great show. 👏👏
... and by an urgent desire to slam Lana Lane into a sturdy wardrobe and lock it. Sorry, nothing whatsoever against the Kristin Kreuk; I'm glad that with Burden of Truth she finally got a character with a bit of meat to it, instead of yet another Snow white copy. But bloody h---, that character was such a romantic plot tumor. And my, Lex Luthor. Smart and damaged and ambitious and always either the source or the target of some ploy. No wonder he totally stole that show.
Watching these interviews brings back so many memories- Smallville was one of the saving graces in my life. People always crack on about children watching TV and I understand it should never replace life. However, narrative and creative expression is so powerful. Especially as a young boy with no father, an absent mother and generations of alcoholic and toxic family members and then goes to school and hates the system and the bullying. Smallville- Supernatural-One Tree Hill were mentors, spiritual guides and so forth. I love them all!- "somebody save me" and "carry on my wayward son are anthems to my life. I found what i needed within myself to fight on and grow.
Honestly, when I saw the trailer for Smallville in 2001, I wasn't particularly excited to see it. I thought: "Superman isn't supposed to meet Lex Luthor until he's fully grown and living in Metropolis." However, after watching the Smallville pilot, I was hooked. One of the funniest observations made by a cast member was: "It's amazing how quickly all of the characters on the show 'move on', after one of the characters gets murdered." There was quite a bit of murder on Smallville -- especially in the first season. Thankfully, as Clark began to master his abilities, the death toll declined. He was actually able to "stop" meteor freaks from killing people.
It's funny to read what your initial reaction was. I'm apparently much older than you, and when I was a kid Superman and Lex were boyhood friends in the comics. It wasn't until they changed DC comics history after Crisis on Infinite Earths that they met as adults in Metropolis.
@@carlrosenzweig1867 The Superman storylines I was familiar with before the Smallville series, were The Super Friends/Justice League of America cartoons, the Christopher Reeve movies, and the Superman cartoon of 1988. In all of those, Clark was an adult in Metropolis when he first encountered Lex Luthor. I think that DC Comics had way too much fragmentation long before Smallville. It really was a "Crisis" on Infinite Earths.
@@carlrosenzweig1867It's ALL retconns on retconns... They originally met in Metropolis, Lex was just doing standard villain stuff like any badguy from the time 😅 all the boyhood stuff was later
Actually they were friends when they were young. It just depends on which superman series of the comics that you read. The show was based on the early years.
I was a hardcore Smallville fan back in the day; never missed an episode and got others to get into it. I always loved the real life friendship of Tom and Michael.💞💕💓❤
I'm glad that the cast cared enough for their lead's well being into having someone pick him up and drive him home. I mean you can even see both Tom's reaction as well as Michael remembering those exhausting times...great video as always thank you for sharing
The character in Smallville who made the whole story work for me was not Clark Kent, it was Lex Luthor. Michael Rosenbaum was the best actor in the Smallville cast. His ability to make you sympathize with the same bad guy you loved to hate, was outstanding!
I agree but the both of them have such a great chemistry that they balance each other ènergies with good and evil. To me lex is the perfect example of an ANTI hero not a villain. Just think about it he always looked upto that comic book warrior angel guy and wanted to be just like him, and his obsession with Clarke I notice he envies his whole lifestyle. But to me they're such great characters and I'll never forget these two 💘🖤🩵💜🤍
I say this with conviction. In his prime, Tom Welling was the best looking guy to play any main character in any of the epic cult classics. Superman, James Bond, blah blah. Hollywood really messed up - I think the Smallville creators saw this. However, Hollywood for whatever reason, turned a blind eye. For a guy who grew up watching Smallville, this missed opportunity for us all to see Tom on the big screen really kills me. Hollywood, WB sucks! No actor - MCU, DC or otherwise compares. I mean imagine a well written Superman movie with these two. Michael Rosenbaum is one hell of an actor. The versatility. Flash and Lex! Blessed. Time machine anyone! Anyhow, wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year.
"Hollywood" is a term for people that cannot name Studios and People. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and in the case of large production Films, the Casting Agents that must be counted on to choose an actor that can carry such a huge investment.
I blame his agent for not telling him to take advantage of his prime. Tom’s priorities after smallville were more in his family and wanting to enjoy life away from acting and although his priorities were in the right place, it did cost him opportunities to remain in the spotlight. But then again, he’s living life right.
I’d forgotten how much I loved that show! Great cast. Tom was perfectly cast ! It took me a little while to warm up to Michael as Lex but he changed my mind.
I know you won't see this Tom but I really liked Smallville and I thought you were a great Superman, thanks for all the time and effort you and everybody put in,sincerely. Also Jason was an amazing Lex Luthor, you guys made a great show and people should know how hard you guys went 👏, Happy New Years everybody. 🎆🎇
@@Killahoe41510 yes and at the last episode it all came together with him being Superman. I could not believe they didn't cast Tom for Man of Steel but after i saw Henry Cavill i knew it'd be alright. In the end, after watching Smallville twice it was hard to let go i guess
I like Michael's podcast here. It's decent. I only just learned he had one. So cool to see cast members from Smallville on here too. Tom Welling is my Christopher Reeve by the way. I'm 25 but a late fan of Smallville. I've been catching up online and it's such a good show. I gotta see more of this podcast.
I had started watching in high school but got super busy and time went by so fast... During fall of 2021, I saw that it was available on Prime Video so I started watching it from the start, but then 5 seasons in, Prime removed it for Canadian subscribers (the only gave 5 days notice). Couldn't finish the remaining 5 seasons in 5 days, hehe! 😅
I've always loved their chemistry on the series. Now having an little insight on how they are in real life gives you the reason why it happened on the series.
Tom seems so humble. I feel so lucky he was cast- truly a perfect Clark Kent. The WB hit the jackpot and that he was able to keep going with that unreasonable schedule it sounds like it was simply more than should have been asked of him.
It’s so weird how their voices have changed. Like Tom’s voice seems more raspy and almost like higher toned. I’m currently rewatching Smallville for the 100th time in my life and I can really notice the difference lol
My family hogged the TV all the time when Smallville was airing so I couldn't watch it then. I'm watching it for the first time now on Hulu. What an amazing show. I'm glad I can watch it now.
I had my own TV in the barn out back and I used it to watch Smallville. I, like Clark Kent, enjoyed staying in our family barn. I could watch whatever I wanted to out there.
What Tom said's about leads not having many lines due to being in the middle of the story and lines being spoken by other actors. Made think how have we not noticed this. Great actors the both of them.
The only real gripe i had with the story of smallville, was that Clark defeats and eliminates all of his most major villains before he is even Superman, I remember thinking at the end, when he finally put on the suit, well, what is even left for him to do as superman? What is he going to be famous for handling now?
The Season 11 comics do a great job of continuing Smallville's story by giving us adventures of Tom's Clark as Superman, even allowing things that the live-action show couldn't for various reasons (meeting Batman, Wonder Woman and the Green Lantern Corps, as well as a Crisis event).
That sort of makes sense in a vacuum, or if the only exposure to superman you've had was the previous movies / adult superman comics. In the context of Superman and DC ...there are a lot of stories with a younger superman facing off against basically the same roster of villains ..as well as all of the villains that return over and over again like in all superhero stories. Smallville isn't really canon anyway, it's an offshoot story / universe, just like what happens in the comics all the time. So you can't entirely fault the writers for adding a bunch of them into the show, even if in your knowledge of the lore of superman it doesn't match up with the timeline. There are certainly some hammed in characters / plots in smallville that don't add up ( I personally hated the doomsday arc ), and some very loose use of the original material. Considering Lana was never meant to be a love interest for most of the show ( or at all ), and Lex was never suppose to make an appearance that soon in the lore ( among all the other changes they did ), you kinda have to just suspend that disbelief and ride it out for what it is.
I understand your point. However, Doomsday and Darkseid are basically immortal, so their always going to be Superman's nemesis. And, Zod was sent to the Phantom Zone, so there's always a possibility that he'll escape.
These enemies always come back because Superman doesn't kill them or imprison them... and now as Superman he's a globally recognized person than just a blur stopping some dangers before people can react
I’m currently watching Smallville with my partner slowly. He grew up watching the reruns but I didn’t, so we’re unlocking his childhood together and it’s amazing. But I’m currently fangirling about the fact that Tom is wearing an Ariana Grande shirt, what a stan!😂
I swear by power naps. Was watching this as a wind-down before taking a 25-minute one this afternoon XD It's amazing how productive you can feel after!
Crazy how long ago it all was! I went out to the set and some guy in shorts and sandals wouldn't let me in! Told him I was all the way from NJ... Glad I got to see the Farm though. I'd bite someone's head off whenever interrupted me watching the show
This video is so awesome❤ It's truly good advice when you're in a mood or you're stressed out it's nice to have someone just to tell you calm down slow down. I wish somebody told that to my High School lacrosse coach during my junior year because if somebody did maybe he would have never had his first heart attack back then
I barely recognized Michael Rosenbaum!! This just tells you how much time have passed and how many years it's been since he played Lex Luthor in Smallville, cz he aged and I could barely recognized him.. Still my most favorite show back then, and this give me so much nostalgia when I myself was still in my teenage years!! Good old days!!😅
Seeing these two talk feels good to see 😭 they played there characters so dam well it makes it seem like they are actual enemies in real life 💯😂 My favorite TV of all-time🎥🔥
I used to clamour for the remote to watch Smallville back in the day. I was a little teen living in Kenya and this show holds so much nostalgia for me. I loved everyone on the show. 🇰🇪
We are the same age Tom and myself and I remember how awesome the show was and how I really guinely loved his acting and Michael in my opinion has been the epitome of how Lex Luther should have been portrayed, I always wanted Lex's story to be different just because Michael was soo likeable as this character lol
I think I saw only 1 Smallville episode when it was on the air as I didn't watch much TV. My God daughter moved in temporarily more than a decade ago and she had all the Smallville DVD's. We watched episode after episode. Since that time I've watched every episode two more times. This series took me back to my childhood around 1962 when I used to watch "The Adventures of Superman." That was my first, favorite TV series and I would project myself into the character. My grandma made me a Superman cape and gave me a T-shirt with an S on it. Years later I found myself on Lois & Clark, being saved by Superman from being crushed by an evil Terri Hatcher who crashed into a playground while driving an 18-wheeler. So many good memories involving "The Man of Steel."
The first two seasons of the show was "freak of the week" with a new kryptonite powered villain emerges in each episode, beats Lex to show how badass he/she is and eventually stopped by Clark. Around 3rd and 4th seasons the show finally stopped this trend and started to use more of the DC universe properties. Around 6th-7th season it should completely scrap Smallville scenes and move on to Metropolis, because around that time Clark already left to Metropolis and started to work at Daily Planet. The producers prolonged transition from Clark Kent to Superman so insanely long. I still think Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor had huge potential, but never used properly. Warner Bros should have used Tom & Michael in a rebooted Superman movie at the beginning of 2000s instead of a tv show.
The show overstayed it's welcome by a few seasons too many, especially those last few seasons. God those were hard to get through as just about everyone was so ready to move on, especially Welling.
@@rmmm6725 No way, first two seasons were bad. And some of the best were the later seasons. Smallville is one of the rare shows that got better in it's later seasons. While they prolonged him using the suit. He was in metropolis. He was essentially superman. He even had an S. He just had a street clothes costume. After he worked at the paper, the Smallville scenes didn't hurt anything. Superman can go to Smallville whenever.
I know for a fact that Tom Welling didn’t want to wear the cape to begin with. He wanted to be Clark Kent, not Superman. But you do have a point that the show certainly went on too long.
A good point about the honking. People NEVER honk here. What makes it more surprising, though, is that the drivers in America seem better/more conscientious overall, so in Canada there should be a lot more honking. Every time I’m driving I see people cutting each other off, driving slow in the fast lane, staying side by side on a 2 lane freeway, etc., and pretty much never does anyone honk. I think I’ve honked maybe 3 or 4 times (I’m 35), and those are when someone’s sitting for a long time after the light turns green, and once a dude stopped dead on the freeway to let someone merge, and I barely avoided a collision. I’ve been to various places down south, and always find it strange how much honking there is, and usually for no reason. Like the light will be red and the cars behind are all honking. Honking like crazy in traffic jams makes no sense, there’s no where for anyone to go, shit would drive me nuts to listen to.
I remember visiting Mexico many years ago and it was constant honking but not aggressive, but like to let me know where you are when they're passing and stuff. It just made sense.
@@Wulfenburg yeah I don’t mind it if someone’s in my blind spot and I’m changing lanes into them and they honk, that helps avoid a collision. But usually shoulder checking is enough to not need honking.
I don’t know why CW doesn’t have drivers for their actors ?? The riverdale lead Archie/ kj apa was in a accident a couple of years ago with the same thing, driving while tired.
@@gdjgigufugug2768 I know this is a year late, but…a Tom and Michael said they were developing it in 2021. But as of this past June, Michael says James Gunn and Pete Safran don’t wanna do it anytime soon :(
The amount of stories you hear of crew members dying in car accidents to and from sets. Insane how normal it seems to ask people to drive to work with the amount of hours on set theyre on
@@DVankeuren no it's not, but it is a problem. Working 15-18hrs and then be expected to drive home is insane. Any job that allows fatigued driving and they see it as its not their problem because the worker has clocked off. I think we can all agree mate; that's fucked.
If I was in charge of DC / WB back in 2010. My DCEU on film would have used SMALLVILLE as it’s blueprint! For real. Most characters were already developed. So much great backstories to develop into a superhero universe.
If you two did one more season, EVERYBODY would watch. It's like not a day has gone by since the show ended. And the void it has left hasn't been filled ever since. And I have a feeling it never will be.
You're not wrong. I was so sad when I heard that Tom Welling and Erica Durance weren't going to be starring in Superman and Lois. I legitimately hate the entire cast of that show. And I grew up watching the Superman movies and Lois and Clark with my parents.
@@Ilikefrogs.. Yeah I couldn't care less about the new show. One more season of Smallville or at least a mini series called Metropolis would be awesome.
Really hard to believe it was 20 years ago. Doesn't seem like two decades have passed since this brilliant show. I remember watching it in my tiny apartment and befriending someone in an internet group about it whom I later met in real life and became friends. Should give it another watch through.
Tom was talented despite not having much experience. I cant believe these studios couldnt even watch out for the wellbeing of its actors. That being said I wish he was in more projects.
Ironically long distance driving is one of the main reasons I would never live in California. I used to go out there for work and I would stagger my business meetings so that they were way before rush hours. In some ways it must be a nightmare to be a jobbing actor, auditions and shoots everywhere. My ex is a production manager here in NYC. It is so much easier. Whenever he had downtime during an evening shoot I could just take a quick cab ride to be with him, not in L.A.!
In a way it's therapeutic to see these two being buds. It's like Clark and Lex are finally boys again

Sounds absolutely exhausting. Don't know how he kept it up for 10 years. I'm so glad he did, though. Smallville is my favourite all time show. I've watched it at least 100 times. It's truly magical ☺👍
Something I remember from Smallville is "If your intentions towards Mrs.Kent are anything other than honorable, this amicable father and son detente will come to an abrupt end." I was blown away by that line because it was delivered so well!
who said that?
@@JoJo-cy4tb Lex did, to Lionel. Mrs. Kent had taken a job working as an assistant for Lionel and Lex was concerned about Lionel’s intentions and issued a thinly veiled threat.

That episode of Smallville was EPIC and thats when I saw what a wonderful actor Tom is! I thought...wow..he's REALLY studied John Glover! The mannerisms were on point! Loved it! You guys are great! Ain't no Lex like your Lex Michael. You're both awesome! Thank you for being you!
My adventures superman season 1 was ok. And Smallville animated series next soon in the tv in hbo max.
My adventures superman episode was great and Smallville animated series next soon in the tv in hbo max.

I'm glad that the cast cared enough for their lead's well being into having someone pick him up and drive him home. I mean you can even see both Tom's reaction as well as Michael remembering those exhausting times...great video as always thank you for sharing
Rosenbaum is BRILLIANT. Great actor, great interviewer
Met him. Really awesome guy!!!
But to me they're such great characters and I'll never forget these two 💘🖤🩵💜🤍
I am so glad I found this. Grew up watching Smallville. These dudes are great.
Smallville is one of my all time favorite shows! Love you both a ton. Toms version of clark was just so perfect.
Christopher Reeve was handsome and a top actor.
He was market corrected by Henry Cavill
"Hollywood" is a term for people that cannot name Studios and People. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and in the case of large production Films, the Casting Agents that must be counted on to choose an actor that can carry such a huge investment.
I blame his agent for not telling him to take advantage of his prime. Tom’s priorities after smallville were more in his family and wanting to enjoy life away from acting and although his priorities were in the right place, it did cost him opportunities to remain in the spotlight. But then again, he’s living life right.
@@DReaves Maybe he made a conscious decision to NOT be too much in the "spotlight."

I believe the role of a naive young Clark is the vibe they were going for and any inexperienced moments seemed genuine for his character
Just rewatched 1-3, love these guys so much
I like Michael's podcast here.
He also has music
I've always loved their chemistry on the series. Now having an little insight on how they are in real life gives you the reason why it happened on the series.
Michael Rosenbaum needs to be in anything! From comedy to hard drama, action etc. he can do it all.

He’s getting old
My family hogged the TV all the time when Smallville was airing so I couldn't watch it then.
This is definitely nostalgic seeing them talk about it.
I love naps too! Sometimes they really are the difference between a good or bad day!
Loved seeing yall at salt lake! Thanks for signing our service dog! 😅
The only real gripe i had with the story of smallville, was that Clark defeats and eliminates all of his most major villains before he is even Superman, I remember thinking at the end, when he finally put on the suit, well, what is even left for him to do as superman? What is he going to be famous for handling now?
You can see how they deal with this in Season 11. Superman has a bunch of stories left to tell.
Loved Smallville!! Probably my second favorite show ALL TIME!
The fact that you two are genuine friends

Never watched Smallville but can I just say your goatee is inspirational.
The show should have been 4 seasons max. It also wasn’t very good
The only problem is Wellings didn’t want to wear the cape
I just rewatched Smallville. I noticed so much
A good point about the honking.
In India, honking every 2 seconds is the norm.
Thank you for the dedication you guys put into my favorite show
