  • Hatsan puts a lot of power in a little package. Today I wanted to find out if I could break the sound barrier with an air rifle. This was so much fun!

    Also the length of the barrel also is a factor on the speed and accuracy.

    Ben good discussion on pellet weight, stability, speed, and accuracy. I agree with you about the speed diablo pellets are most stable is from 830 to 920 FPS depending on the characteristics of the rifle and it's tune. Reference Matt Duber, Ted Bier, and Rick Rehm's videos. One key factor to stability you missed is the pellet size(diameter and shape) matching the barrel. This is the whole journey and challenge of every air rifle and pistol. Finding the best pellet which will give the airgunner ultimate accuracy and improved stability! On numerous occasions I and others have had heavier pellet shoot faster and more accurate. In these cases the heavier pellet conforms to the rifling of the barrel better because the diameter and shape of the pellet matches' the lands and groves of each individual barrel. I hope this helps your listeners too I am no expert I'm just passing on knowledge and information from formattable shooters in the industry today.

    Good video, I try to explain the effects of the trans-sonic region to my fellow shooters and reloaders, that it is best to stay above or below the region for best accuracy. Technically speaking, and we all know "technically correct" is the best kind of correct, the lightest pellets on the market are the felt cleaning pellets. Not intended for target shooting, but still classified as a pellet and therfore the lightest pellets out there in the world.

    I got one in .25 cal. The flashpups are mean monsters. To be honest it out shoots my armada and thats twice the price.

    Holy biscuits that is one fast shooter. Sounded like a .22 rim fire. Hopefully your neighbors are cool and no one got in trouble. If my rifle made a sonic crack like that and shot more than once in my neighborhood even though I have an armor plate shot box I still probably would be having a visit from the county Boys 🚔 🚔 by the way great video was very cool.

    You should be able to get the same results using something like H&N 5.71gr pellets. These will still produce the sonic crack but they are cheaper, less susceptible to wind and should provide a fair amount of accuracy to 30-40 yards. I like my guns loud so I use these all the time.

    That has a hammer spring adjustment right?? You can turn it down to what weight pellet you are shooting?? What size bipod did you get for it ?

      I have not attempted to tinker with power adjustment as of yet.

    hello sir ...... have you had any luck finding out how to change (replace) the hammer spring adjustment screw? mine is still shooting too fast with the hammer spring screw turned all the way in (it was only one turn out from factory) im using crosman 10.5 dommed .177, im shooting at about 950-965 fps.... if i could get it closer to the 900 fps range im sure my accuracy would improve. Possibly replace the hammer spring itself to a lighter one? T.I.A.

      I haven't taken the time to tinker with it enough to feel comfortable with advising you on this. I'm sorry I couldn't be of help.

    my Ballistic reader says at 1100' per 2nd is roughly about 400 miles per hour, I don't understand how that can break the sound barrier, but it does, at least my scale say scale says 400 miles an hour

      I just put 1100 FPS into an online calculator to convert to MPH. It says 750 MPH. That's 20 MPH under the average sound barrier speed at mean sea level.
      The speed of sound varies by altitude and atmospheric conditions. It's not a constant like the speed of light. Here is a cool calculator where you can see the effect of air temperature on the speed of sound.

    to fully leave the transonic region at sea level you typically need to exceed 1,340ft/s to be truly supersonic and back into "clean" air. doubt many air rifles can push the pellet that fast and a pellet will lose velocity very rapidly at supersonic speeds since they arn't optimized for the shockwave.

    • @GuidersGunGuideGGG-USA
      @GuidersGunGuideGGG-USA  Рік тому

      You're absolutely correct that the diabolo shape produces varying levels of pressure on the different surfaces that makes supersonic flight entirely useless to air gunners as a rule. If I was unclear in that point, I apologize. It further makes transonic flight all the more problematic, when compared to more aerodynamic projectiles, like slugs or firearms rifle bullets.
      The takeaway, if I was not clear, is that air gunners should want to keep muzzle velocity below transonic flight for their given atmospheric conditions (temp, barometric pressures, altitude, etc).
      Thank you for watching and for the additional information.
