i think the only mod i ever installed for the OG SoC was one that made repair kits a thing. Outside that base game is indeed a solid. can more or less go at your own pace till the end too so yeah solid!
Over the last 17 years, I have played STALKER as much as I play Doom and Half-Life. It quickly became seminal in shaping me as I aged. I have played most of the big mods out there and have played through the trilogy countless times straight vanilla. The zone calls us back like an old friend and I am so glad that more people get to experience this amazing series now. Don't be afraid to play through the games as they are, and also don't be afraid to explore and play all the mods, even ones that are derided like Complete and LURK. Nearly every mod out there brings something that can be found fascinating and unique, just like the Zone itself, and even poorly met mods have merits for those willing to dive in. Don't give Clear Sky a pass either; when it came out, and through the years it proved to be the only one I could not manage to finish due to bugs , corrupted saves, and jankiness, but ABR mod made Clear Sky one of my favorites after all these years. And I never see it mentioned any longer but Priboi Story was a fantastic mod back in the day to add a new twist.

Stalker is brilliant game that went through so much. It is sad to see the devs are going through a hard time and make strange decisions, both political and economical (nft moment bruh)
3:32 Not true in ShoC. Try nailing a snork in the head with a pistol with and without aiming and you'll find that ADS always works better. 4:24 Kinda sorta almost approximately. More like it randomizes whether or not the bullet actually existed in the first place. 4:38 40-mils are useful against chimeras and pseudogiants. Also good for taking out psionic mutants with X-Men powers. 4:51 That might have been THQ's doing in some cases.

Been obsessed with the series for years but only recently started actually playing it. Finished SoC and CoP, now midway through CS. Having a blast
