Dude, the part when you're reading the note and it starts getting super twisted and horrible and goes off the rails, and when you finish and realize you're a horrid little crawling demon yourself... that part was so shocking that I started laughing out loud like I had been possessed! XD Faith is such a great series
@@Mr._Pancakes I can certainly guarantee with the effort he gives his own content. He could make a banger horror film, but giving critique doesn't mean you want to create your own. He could point out issues in a AAA game doesn't mean he wants to try and make a AAA game.
Charlie mentioning the jumpscares where they're just talking or doing something mundane is definitely true, but I know exactly why they did it. Because the original did, but they missed the execution and the purpose. The original had scenes where the main character would be just lying down or talking to a doctor and they would subtly flash a frame of a demon, meant to represent that the demon who possessed them is present and make the viewer feel dread. But, of course, they didn't use a noise or overuse it. I actually love the Exorcist 3's big jumpscare of the movie, so I feel like there is a proper way to use them and this new one didn't know how.
This movie doesn't do it as strong as the original, but much of the flashing at least has to do with what they're discussing or relates somewhat to what's happening in the movie. And I think it keeps the viewer on edge and a little anxious, so long as they're willing to be invested in the movie they're watching. The flashing Imagery isn't used as good as the original, but a lot of this movie does what the original did well enough, and I think it's recieving too much flack for it
The biggest crime in this film is the total betrayal of Chris (Ellen Bs character) and Reagans relationship. After EVERYTHING they went through and the bond they made in the first film (even deeper in the book) it makes no sense to me that Chris would betray Reagan by going against her wishes to write that book. Furthermore such a massive thing is Chris' gratitude towards the two priests in The Exorcist, and then in this film she makes som joke about them upholding the patriarchy???
Interesting to see this comment (haven’t seen the new movie) because that’s something that also happened in the tv show, which I had thought they were retconning. I actually liked the tv show though
Of course they brought modern shit into this. I bet too that Angela is the black girl. As soon as I heard the choice clip in the trailer I knew the black girl would live cuz it’s impossible for her not to at this point in Hollywood. Wish none had to die but still thought it was funny I called it

Please keep making content like this for people like me who will NEVER watch these movies but still like to be in the loop. These videos are better than the actual movie for me haha
The 3rd exorcist is fantastic, and is only called exorcist 3 because the studio changed the name. It’s directed by the author of the exorcist book and is based off his other stuff
Hollywood is terrified of letting established and complete franchises rest on their laurels and take chances on new IPs. Hopefully this L will be a lesson to them. They have to learn eventually that people arent just gonna show up for a movie just because they know it. You have to put in effort and actually create something good and worth showing up for.
I just watched this movie, and let me just say that I was with a group of friends who all get easily scared, but while this movie was playing we were all giggling at how goofy the characters and editing were. Out of the whole film we agreed that the only successfully executed jump scare was the one with the snake (small 2 min long clip at the beginning, with no plot connection). It felt like this movie was the farthest thing from a horror movie ever.
the original exorcist also did the image thing where the picture of pazuzu would pop up on screen, but ofc in that movie it made sense and was only for a second, but that was them trying to capture the same spookiness
Imagine if Charlie gets baked asf then goes on the internet and find something that he finds hilarious then hits record and talks about it for 9 minutes
I heard leslie odom jr was a good actor in it, and i feel like i've been hearing that a lot... reviewers say "this movie is absolute garbage which is a shame because [mildly well-known actor] did extremely well and this could have been their huge breakthrough moment into true mainstream stardom and now they have to find something else"
It's sad that the industry has become so oversaturated and only choosing to invest in shows or movies that are already established IPs. I hear it's so bad that scriptwriters have been going backward for a while to turn their script into a published book so that it may hopefully be adapted on screen.
honestly I just saw it and i think it suffers the most from just not knowing what its suppose to be. It tries to be so many things, and fails at all of them. Honestly just hilarious the amount of money seen dropped into this film to see blumhouse who is used to not trying but with low risk, actually take a gamble and fail so spectacularly
The reason they used those flashing images was because, in the original, there are interlaced frames of disturbing images used to create a subliminal feeling of dread. They happen so quickly that the viewer hardly has time to register it. At some point, after the original was released, censorship laws made it illegal to use subliminal imagery/messaging in any form of media. Thats why they have to make it more apparent this time around.
Calling the demon "nothing but a nuisance" is such a good descriptor for it, lmaoo. After the demon pokes out the ladies' eyes, it goes, "If you want to see your daughter again, just open your eyes! Hahaha". Like.. what do these demons even want?? What's the point?? They never tell us. So, part of me always finds it funny that these demons just terrorize these families purely for the fun of it. I can never take it seriously.
I think in theory demons are just corrupt souls turned evil by being tortured in hell, so once they get out and start using humans bodies as vessels, they’re out for vengeance. They’re angry and just want to punish really anybody even if they had nothing to do with their damnation
This makes me sad man...my mom is a HUGE fan of the OG movie and is super excited to see this with her friend soon. I hope she isn't too disappointed:(
I literally forgot they were making another Exorcist movie until this video. And tbh I'm still wondering why the studio thought another Exorcist movie was gonna do well
I couldn’t finish this vid it’s so unsurprising but sad that the legacy of every film has to be watered down for profit. Miss the days of a one-off banger
The jump scares weren’t really jumpscares per se, they were tryna replicate pazuzus face popping up throughout the original movie. They didn’t do it well regardless but that’s what that was about.
The name thing at least has actual mythological foundation. In a lot of older beliefs if you learn somethings True Name and speak it, it gives you a significant amount of power over the being. Even with humans those beliefs state that if you learn the name of someones soul you can control them
I lost all interest and hope in Horror movies a fair while ago. Nobody knows how to make a good horror movie anymore. They just pump out absolute CRAP. It's actually so sad because I use to LOVE the genre.
I saw Possum's review of it. "Why did the two priests that died to save your daughter didn't let you see the exorcism that would definitely traumatise you for life? Patriarchy". Patriarchy indeed, lol.
I think... from how you described it. Charle... the demon wanted the parents to damn themselves by making a selfish choice and thus earn a soul for hell by tainting it? *shrug* I guess that would be a win in the demon's book, considering they might have gotten bored with the whole possession.
"erm acktchually, verbalace only spent ~$50,000.00 where as the subject of this video is a company that spent ~$400,000,000.00" -🤓 (my dork ass needs to go the fuck outside)
The funniest thing about this movie was the fact that the marketing was actually good, but they'd do it even during the day. Myself watching an NFL game with my 2 year old sitting next to me and all of a sudden she screams at the TV. xD WHAT WERE THEY THINKING.
To be fair to the movie, a demon’s intention is not to kill someone. I think it makes sense that the demon would instead force the people to choose which girl will die, and allow them to suffer with that knowledge the rest of their lives
If you're as tired of possession movies as Charlie is. Like him I'd recommend the movie "talk to me". It's really well made, the stakes feel like they matter and it's an accurate description of how powerless we'll be if a spirit in limbo is inside us.
@@771shadowolf Yes, but the main reason why people are tired of possession movies isn't the concept itself. Its because most of them are piles of garbage; so a good one would be a breath of fresh air.

Idk, it’s kinda horrifying to think that demons just get off on waltzing into your family’s life, destroying it for laughs, and leaving to do it to someone else. Knowing it gets away and there’s nothing you can do about it kinda makes it scarier
I think the Most terrifying villains are the ones For whom it's Not even For amusement, it's Just a Job. @@enderkatze6129 I think they're both the worst in different ways the one doing it for fun is the worst in the since that they treat the lives of others and live and death in general like it's just a game to them and don't take anything seriously, showing how they literally can't put themselves in anyone else's shoes and empathy is a foreign concept to them. That there is no low that they won't stoop to in order to have fun. That life is just a disposable commodity in the name of their own amusement. The hitman is worst in the since that they put money and profit over the lives of everyone else, that life is just a disposable commodity all in the name of personal gain. That there is nothing they won't do for the sake of making money. They'll murder anyone if enough dough is thrown at them. Idk but if their was any kind of afterlife punishment both types of killers should be punished equally severely.
I feel so vindicated right now. The people I was with were saying it was a 10/10 and I was just so dumbfounded I didn't know what to think. Also I giggled at the movie because of how bad it was so I'm happy he mentioned that
The people you were with are just casual audience who would rarely think it in a critical lens. Jackie Chan made a good point about audiences coming to theaters, they'll just think "good movie bad movie" and move on.

I believe it is still on the market to this day and the hospital they finished the exorcism in was shut down years later after things started happening.
i have to ask what you thought of the original exorcist. when i saw the original in theatres (it was a fathom event a few years ago) i left the theatre legitimately trembling. it’s a masterpiece of suspense building and very rarely relied on any jumpscares. it took its time and i loved it.
Well he did say the original was the iconic horror film, the film that started it all. Seems like he thinks it deserves it's accolades. Exorcist II was one of the worst movies ever made though. If this one is worse, then it must be lethally bad.
you have to imagine that, whilst the original movie is very beloved, it was released in the 70s. It didn't release a successful movie in many, many decades. It's definitely not worth 400 mil
I will say in contrast to most possession movies, this one tried the theme of Christianity does nothing/has no power over possessions. Everyone reading Bible passages had no effect on the demon. Even the priest had zero effect, legit getting his neck snapped. The demon only left because it wanted to. Not because it was compelled to.

My favorite bit of possession-related media to date is the Faith game series. You genuinely don't need millions of dollars to make a captivating horror experience.
Dude, the part when you're reading the note and it starts getting super twisted and horrible and goes off the rails, and when you finish and realize you're a horrid little crawling demon yourself... that part was so shocking that I started laughing out loud like I had been possessed! XD Faith is such a great series
Father Clarke locking himself in the basement with the demon and talking about how this is God’s work to the detective was actually insane.
Charlie should make his own movie, being the esteemed actor he is

@@octobsession3061 He seems to critique heavily on horror movies. He should do his own movie how he really wants.
@@octobsession3061but they gotta play to become coaches
@@Mr._Pancakes I can certainly guarantee with the effort he gives his own content. He could make a banger horror film, but giving critique doesn't mean you want to create your own. He could point out issues in a AAA game doesn't mean he wants to try and make a AAA game.
@@RebelPawsor he wouldn’t want his own movie to flop being the high critique he is
Charlie mentioning the jumpscares where they're just talking or doing something mundane is definitely true, but I know exactly why they did it.
To quote Adum from his Oldboy review "Why are you showing it if the whole point of showing it isn't there!? Why!?"
"the patriarchy"? Oh now I'm ABSOLUTELY ELATED this movie flopped.

Hollywood taking massive Ls because of lazy nostalgia bait is hilarious to me, lol.
It's like Hollywood is out of ideas, so it just recycles old ones.
They should be afraid of all the money they're losing on big budget movies, yet they greenlight that shit all the time.
The demon is the most evil thing ever, a youtube prankster
I just watched this movie, and let me just say that I was with a group of friends who all get easily scared, but while this movie was playing we were all giggling at how goofy the characters and editing were. Out of the whole film we agreed that the only successfully executed jump scare was the one with the snake (small 2 min long clip at the beginning, with no plot connection). It felt like this movie was the farthest thing from a horror movie ever.
I don't know, the ending scene of the girl dying made my heart race, that shits terrifying if you think about the concept.
So it’s just like the original exorcist boring not scary Bs
the original exorcist also did the image thing where the picture of pazuzu would pop up on screen, but ofc in that movie it made sense and was only for a second, but that was them trying to capture the same spookiness
For sure. It would only happen when Pazuzus influence was peaking or creeping in.
That image of Pazuzu still haunts my nightmares.

For the first time ever, I've heard Charlie make an analogy that doesn't quite fit the bill. Team Four Star did a great job dubbing.
That's the point. He's saying the movie was like if TFS did a bad job
It's sad that the industry has become so oversaturated and only choosing to invest in shows or movies that are already established IPs. I hear it's so bad that scriptwriters have been going backward for a while to turn their script into a published book so that it may hopefully be adapted on screen.
And then their work gets bastardized to fit the strict criteria of making the most money, anyway, and the cycle continues.
They'd be better off making their story into a Garry's Mod map.
@@SpinoRexy733 The fact that you are 100% right is incredibly sad.
Imagining getting the Exorcist rights and doing this with it lmao
honestly I just saw it and i think it suffers the most from just not knowing what its suppose to be. It tries to be so many things, and fails at all of them. Honestly just hilarious the amount of money seen dropped into this film to see blumhouse who is used to not trying but with low risk, actually take a gamble and fail so spectacularly
Well, the gamble was if the Exorcist franchise in name would be enough to sucker people into the theatres.

The result in the 1rst one was amazing!!!
Please point to said laws.

The funniest thing about this movie was the fact that the marketing was actually good, but they'd do it even during the day. Myself watching an NFL game with my 2 year old sitting next to me and all of a sudden she screams at the TV. xD WHAT WERE THEY THINKING.
It was as if the demon was saying "It's just a prank bro."
To be fair to the movie, a demon’s intention is not to kill someone. I think it makes sense that the demon would instead force the people to choose which girl will die, and allow them to suffer with that knowledge the rest of their lives

i have to ask what you thought of the original exorcist. when i saw the original in theatres (it was a fathom event a few years ago) i left the theatre legitimately trembling. it’s a masterpiece of suspense building and very rarely relied on any jumpscares. it took its time and i loved it.
