The marketing strategy is called the "razor and blades business model". Walmart expects to sell you a fast charger, and higher-capacity batteries, when the performance of the kit items is sub par....
There was a UA-cam reviewer, who also reviewed the hyper tuff tools and he discovered the similar thing some of the batteries only work with brushless tools, and some of the batteries only work with the brushed models from what I understand the smaller capacity batteries are not able to communicate with the brushless motor the way they do with brushed motors and vice versa
More than likely it's just too big of an amp draw for the battery size. Lithium battery have something called voltage sag. The more power you draw and the longer you draw it, the harder the voltage drops off. If you stop pulling power the voltage will go back up. It may be less of an issue on brushless because they're much more efficient so don't require as much work from the battery to put out the same power. Only way to alleviate it is to have more cells sharing the demand of the load, which is why larger packs work better.
I had the same problem, just swapped out the battery. Has worked great since then. Mine came with the 1.5 ah and I just swapped it out with the one from the 12v drill.
Brother I was the one commenting on your take apart great videos and great updates. This is something I’ve ran into as well. This has something to do with the ID pin on the battery itself. And this is only present on the impact from what I’ve seen. Ratchets don’t have the receiving pin like the impact does. I’m fairly certain the ID pin is a current sense for the main board and when it senses to hard of a voltage drop it stops the tool. I even tried blocking the ID pin with some tape and the tool will do nothing but light up the fuel bar and light kind of like what happens when it “stalls”. And it WILL stall under a 4A battery too. In my case it did on two occasions on an install with where I work. The IC number that is connected to this pin is “AP4406B”. I haven’t researched it yet but this is the “brainbox” for what ever is going on here. I think it’s current sense as the pin is connected to the IC via a resistor. And yes the cells aren’t name brand like Samsungs, they are cheaper Chinese cells that are high drain but not like the big dawgs. Just thought I’d share that info. Take apart one of the batteries and check it out.
great research! i have yet to have it stall on the 4ah but i do believe u as it makes sense if its the sensor pin maybe when the cheap cells reach a certain temp and its probably because they are cheaper chinese cells i wonder if i put some samsung cells in if the box will take them lol gonna have to do some reseach
@@toolsonabudget7763absolutely these work a lot better with name brand high drain cells. A buddy of mine changed his cells out and said it made it a completely different tool.
@@toolsonabudget7763I definitely think better name brand cells would help. Less voltage sag that would ultimately decrease the chance of the tool cutoff.
If Walmart were smart, they’d let you “build your kit” online. They need more tools in general for the platform. As it grows though? This would be ideal. Let us choose the tools and batteries we want.
I would say since it comes with the 2AH batter maybe it is drawing to much power. But i think the batteries are limiting it do to voltage drop as well. At the price point of the hyper tough i wouldnt trust the battary metter to be the most accurate. Alot of brands flash like that when there is a problem maybe its mentioned somewhere
I had a bad experience with hyper tough battery reciprocating saw (sawsall) i love there hand tools and other tools i just had a bad experience with anything battery operated
I don't think it's a mistake, I think it's deliberate. They want you to take the plunge on a cheap kit and then drop more money on a performance upgrade
It is deliberate, but that is the wrong reason. The tool cuts when voltage gets too low. That preserves the battery, because when voltage decreases amperage increases, and amperage kills batteries. so it is done to make batteries last longer
It was clearly packaged to hit a price point. I don't call this 'dropping the ball' at all. It's a marketing decision. They COULD include a coupon in the package to get the 4 AH battery and rapid charger for 20% off but even if you buy the battery & charger at full price, this tool & it's companions still kick butt; bringing affordable power tools within the reach of young people starting out, retired or disabled people on fixed incomes and anyone who finds one or more of these tools helpful in occasional use. The build quality and performance make it a winner at the price point. Hyper Tough power tools come with a two or three year warranty, extensible at the time of purchase, depending on the tool. The Hyper Tough marketing team made a decision with which you disagree. Means YOU think they 'dropped the ball.' I don't, so everybody has an opinion. BTW, I have zero connection with Walmart. Never worked there, own no stock, no financial interest. Retired from a sales and marketing career.
Sorry bro but it’s a hyper tough that’s step above dollar store drill only to be bought and used in emergency situations or for the customer that will uses it 3 times in their lives. It is what it is. Don’t want this issue just spend 10 or 20 more
Actually lately, some of their tools are just fine. I personally have the cordless ratchet for work in aviation, and it’s pretty nice to have for $40. Sure not as fast as other brands, but also around a third of the normal prices. I plan on trying out some of their new brushless stuff later on.
@@toolsonabudget7763 get hart if you have to but when it comes to power tools you don’t have to get Hilti or any other high end but spending a couple extra bucks makes a huge difference and staying on the same platform minimizes spending a crazy amount on batteries. Yes now they sell it for $54.99 for the gen 2 with the 4.0 battery and rapid charger i just ordered it nice video 👍
Walmart now offers a kit for the impact wrench with a 4ah battery for $75
Yeah I was about to comment this...these are poopy cells
Yes, the bundle still includes the crappy 5-hour slow charger.... 💩
Oh no, a deal breaker! At least for me, this is unacceptable.

2nd gen Hyper Tough 3/8 brushless comes with a 4ah battery, fast charger, and it adds a 2 speed power switch.
Thanks brother 🙏 for all the great videos
Thank you for the support
Same shit with the m12 stuff, driving fastners with the 2ah and 4ah you can tell the difference. The 4ah feels like it drives twice as quick.
Thanks for the info the 4ah is a better option but prefer the other batteries on the cordless ratchet
The m12 look is what attracted me to thus tool. I've seen many videos working with the 2a battery how is that.
When they r fully charged they work ok once u go to 60 percent is when they constantly stop also depends on how tough the fastener is
What Walmart should do is offer a swap for the 2a battery to a 4a.

They also need to up grade their 20V drill driver. Way underpowered

Yeah, gotta sucker in people with the low price.
No way
They risk scaring people off thinking it doesn’t work though . These are very entry level and people may not know what an amp hour is .
I agree with you.

gen2 ver has 4ah and rapid charger for $54!
I just ordered it lol
@ don’t leave us hanging, grab that extended ratchet, no cap fr fr
Thank you!
With the 2ah battery, it has to be absolutely fully charged to use peak torque. The 4ah starts to cut out at one bar left.
Great info thank you sir👍

Same thing happens to mine until I swapped the battery for the 4amp
Better to use steel sockets for impact not the chrome sockets
Seriously they need a 6 to 8ah battery for them impact drivers. 1 to 2 is a joke.
YOU PUT THAT ON A LUGNUT??? Why??
Y not lol it works with the 4ah easily takes them off
Yeah, for sure, take the battery back apart.
Is that tool made to take lug nuts off? Seems a little underpowered for that.
Its advertised at 280ft lbs and it does take them off easily when its not cutting off
