Brandon Miller’s move was very risky and quite impressive. He broke stride and had to convert to outside lane and still had a burst of energy to qualify. Amazing work

agreed, if I was in his position I would have felt quite badly if the world champion was kept out of the olympics because of me. Although I'm sure he wasn't planning on losing that much distance because of it and having to go through time.

@@runningwithrich8534 Wait...what? It's about qualifying. Are you an athlete? Because each person has to earn their spot LOL
If they don't make it, they don't make it, there is no red carpet for them. It's war.
But aside from that, OP, it's a common thing for athletes to push towards the outside of their lane. You see it in every race that has people sharing lane 1, from 400 indoor on up. It makes the other person have to run extra distance. He just didn't realize that he had Braizer behind him I assume. Had he slowed down with Braizer there, then he might have forced him to go around. Result would have been Braizer in 3rd in that case, instead of winning. But he still wouldn't have made it.

I don't think Sowinski made a mistake drifting to the second lane. He had great position on the inside lane but he also could see that four runners were charging wide to his right, so he smartly moved to the right to block them.

They need to change the criteria to be solely based on the time at some point because no way someone who runs a 1:45 should be punished for not coming in first while people who run 1:48 or 49 to win their heat qualify.

Am I the only one who thinks Sowinski did nothing wrong by letting Brazier, you know the best US candidate to win a gold at the olympic in the 800m, on the inside? I mean he knows he is better than him so why force Brazier to burn more energy or even risk to lose the best us candidate of a gold medal when Sowinski clearly know he can't win it?

    • @moderater2.048

Well first of all there are such things as Americans with Austrailian accents, second of all there is such a thing as an Austrailian-American, third of all its commentary for the OLYMPIC games aka one the most publicized international events so its not totally unbelievable to have an international commentator.

@@moderater2.048 "Americans with Australian accents": Belive those kind of pple are called Australians in the first place. "Australian-American": Fine. Is that the case here? Commentary for the OLYMPIC games": Well, first of all these are qualifying rounds internal for US. That makes it less believable. Second, the 2nd cmtator (female) is American, same goes for th guy on the field interviewing the athletes. It wud make more sense to have an all-american team comment on what is a purely american try-out/qualifying. I'll buy yr 2nd argument, IF that is the case. So, is the Australian accent guy an American-Australian?

  • @scrumpymanjack

Incredibly dumb running by Sowinski. I'm amazed that someone of his experience could have made such a basic mistake. Brazier might not have made it through had Sowinski held the lane. Commentators say that you can't see behind you but you can: Sowinski was looking up at the screen as he came around the final bend.
