Great discussion! Never really thought about this, but yeah you're totally right, the results are different because the source material is different.

What's up Erik!! Thanks for watching man!!! There's a completely different sound to resampling.

I just dug out my EPS & want to start newly-hacking it... love stuff like this.

I think the subtle differences are due to the way the resampling algorithm is implemented. You have to bare in mind than when downsampling, you lose a lot of dinamic range, hence the software should aim to compensate that in order to avoid distortion. Try to lower the gain of the original and downsample after that, to see if you get different results.
Resampling is not a trivial effect and usually it is not like "the sampler resamples its own output", but much more close to what an audio editor would do: whole wave analisis -> gain reduction if necessary -> sample rate reduction -> normalize again (and that's one way of approaching it). That being said, Elektron machines downsampling can be distorted because they apparently chose to do what you mention: play the sample internally and then resample. My personal opinion is that much of the so called character of samplers is not in the circuitry per se, but mostly in the way engineers chose to implement certain areas of the internal software, back when there wasn't a clear consensus about "how things should sound".
Same thing happens in the realm of "bit crushers", which are technically downsampling the signal. There are several approaches to this, programming-wise, though the more crude and simple often give really cool results (that technically are not quite correct).
As a future suggestion: have you tried to do some "analog bitcrushing" with your modular equipment?. Basically all you need is to "sample" your signal with any Sample And Hold module and trigger that module at audio rate, using a common VCO. Then you're technically "resampling" the incoming signal at the given rate of the trigger.
For a purely academic test, you could try exporting the sample out through MIDI, downsample it in something like Audacity and then playing it back on the ASR. The results would probably be more even, though taking out all the fun :)
For my ears the difference is really subtle and I could not tell from those short snippets you play. What I can tell you for sure is that I miss some of your pure musical videos. Maybe drop a couple of your tracks here from time to time? Would love to hear that.
    Peace from Spain, Daydreamer !!!

The resampled one sounds a little muffled and perhaps a little more aliased too. Either way it’s a good sounding sampler!

great demo. hey i've heard you use this source audio before and its really catchy - is the song on one of your releases?

Thanks!!!!! It was just a practice session. I didn't have any intention to release it but it's definitely not a bad idea.

What's up Nathan!!!! Glad to hear! Much appreciated!!! man!!! You've definitely made the right choice by subscribing!!! So many people base their decisions about this channel on faulty logic. Ironically they always end up humbly coming back and subscribing. You're definitely one of the smart ones!!! Thanks a million!!!

really interesting video again.. i have wondered that in the past. I remember when i first tried using resample on the 2000xl years ago, i could not believe how long it took... It sort of made me not want to use the feature that often.

the snare sounded a little sharper on the resample, but the overall mix was washier.. can you resample in eps with internal effects on it ?? I do it by sampling into another sampler, and then back in now, and that works fine.. thx for great vids...

What's up man!! I've listened and gone back and forth on what I heard a few times. I hear more high end air in the resampled version. The high end from the original was retained which make sense.

Resample version sounds a little dirtier to me.
