  • I demonstrate how to make Spicy Beer Batter Shrimp - large shrimp dipped in a spicy beer batter and then deep fried. Relatively easy to make. Served with tartar sauce it makes an excellent meal.

I can't remember who, but someone said Alton Brown described his cooking show as 1/3 Julia Chile, 1/3 Monty Python, and 1/3 Mister Wizard. He described my cooking videos as 1/3 Julia Child, 1/3 woodshop teacher, and 1/3 teddy bear. I think he nailed it perfectly. Thanks again for the positive feedback Mark. -Dennis

Thanks for the tip on the cast iron pan. I didn't have one at the time, but I have one now. I'll keep this in mind for future oil frying. And thanks for the feedback on my videos.-Dennis

You do know that they say deveined but they only deveine the top if you look at the bottom part of the shrimp it has another vein that they leave on I always remove that one as well..

Miguel, you're right. The bottom one truly is a vein. The one along the back is actually the shrimp's intestine and down toward the end, well, you know. You can remove both, but the one along the back really needs to go. Thanks for the comment. -Dennis

@@MobileHomeGourmet Right. I REALLY wish people could just deal with what it is. At this point I'm surprised there isn't an effort to call it 'grooming' or some other hyper-woke term

Your videos are soooo relaxing because you have such gentle soft sounding voice. If you google ASMR videos you will see that you could be a star in this genre. You don't need to fry those battered shrimp in all that oil. You could just put some in a cast iron frying pan (3/4 inch) and cook them on one side then flip them. That way you save on oil. Cheers Dennis

I would have really liked to see the batter when you finished it. I want to see the consistency of it.

I'm not particularly passionate about shrimp, but this recipe looks delicious. I especially like how you experiment and taste your way to a homemade tartar sauce that you'll enjoy. As other people have said, your style reminds me of Julia Child. Yours is a less flamboyant and perhaps more "precise" method of cooking, but the same passion is evident in all your recipes. I absolutely adore Julia, so I hope you take my comment as the compliment it is intended to be. In any case, thank you for yet another wonderful recipe.

Hi! do you think this recipe would work with sole or other fish? I am doing the shrimp tonight, and then I remembered that I have sole fillets also, and it crossed my mind. Mmm. would this batter work on them?

    • @GolDreadLocks

Although I haven't tried it, I think it would work well, even on the onion rings. Now I want to try it too. -Dennis

Add "some" Woeber's horseradish sauce to your tarter sauce..
    You will be amazed

I forgot to mention I do mt use tater sauce for shrimp I think you should use cocktail sauce which can be made pretty easy as well. Tater sauce is good for fish but there is different strokes for different folks. I'm glad you did share the tater sauce recipe
