Rob I forgot to tell you- when my son was in high school he wanted to make his own clothes so he did! My boys saw me sewing since they were really little and this kid is very creative. He had a lot of fun and made some hysterical outfits, always his unique style. Those days are long gone but he loves my quilts!!

This quilt design got my creative juices going. My granddaughter is a gymnast and I decided to make a gymnastic quilt. Some of the bubbles will be commercially printed gymnastic photos and some of the bubbles will be photos of her competing at gymnastics meet. Thanks for the quilt ideas you create.

Love this tutorial - You, like Jenny, always inspire me to try things I'm new to. This quilt is beautiful and well taught, can't wait to get started. As for the style of video 1 vs. 2 - I like the one video the best. I tend to watch it once - then when I have gathered what I need - I slow play (stopping and starting) the video to follow along with it. Because of you and Jenny - I finally got a compliment from my mother-in-law of 20+ years when she commented on one of your quilts I made. She now thinks I have talent (he he he) - I gave you guys all the credit!

I don't have room to leave anything out to look at for any length of time so I take a photo and for some reason it helps me see where I need to change things around. My sister taught me that trick, it is something many people in her quilting circle do.

All in one tutorials is the way to go. Another fun project today, Rob. Your humor and your enthusiasm are refreshing. Got a good laugh out of the way you handled the upside down blooper. This is a very creative project and choosing a monochromatic "pallet" was an excellent choice. There's another one of those construction terms. hahaha This would make a darling baby quilt if a variety of brights were used for the dots. By the way, how do we share pics with you? I don't see a place to do that when we comment. I'm sure you'd love to see what our projects look like if we decide to tackle some of your creations.

First off, the vid is awesome sauce. I LOVE the quilt. I have some artsy nerd stuff I'm going to be master minding in the next few months, and this is the PERFECT technique for what I'm doing. Second, you asked about 1 vid or 2 if it's a bigger project...The instant gratification girl in me says 1 long video, lol. Even if it's an hour long, or 2 for that matter. But the more reasonable girl in me says, you should really do whatever is easier for you to publish on You Tube. Either way the videos can be easily referenced if needed. Keep being awesome! =)

Great timing on the video. I'm getting ready to make my teenage daughter a "wing it" or, as I think you call it. organic, circle applique quilt. Describing the color methodology will help us when we design it. I have to simplify it to get it done, so whole cloth with applique is what I'm doing. Regarding video in one or two parts, I prefer it all in one place, one video. I can reference one video easier than two. But I know it takes a lot longer to upload a longer video too. But I like it in one video.

Thanks Rob! I love this quilt - the colours are beautiful! I prefer ONE part videos. Sometimes it's hard to find the second part of a video, especially when UA-cam give you the "suggested" video. Maybe not such a big deal to your subscribers (like me) but it's more for the viewers that are not yet subscribers. When I stumble upon a video from someone I don't subscribe to and I can't find the Part Two, it's sometimes frustrating.

As for the question about 1 vs 2 videos, I prefer 1. That way I don't have to look for episode 2 when I look at it weeks or months down the line. If I need to pause it and watch it in 2 sessions, that's ok, because I'll know where to find it !

Thanks for the video, I really like this design, I was a dressmaker before a quilter and am use to sewing curves together but never thought to do it when piecing a quilt!!! So once again, thank you for the inspiration, and as for the 1 or 2 part videos, I think a 2 part would be better for more intricate projects as it gives people the chance to see all the parts of the piecing and therefore give them a bit more confidence in doing it themselves.

LOVE your tutorials. You are one of the few I can watch that doesn't irritate me with dragging out little things. lol Question: I have only put together one quilt with my mother and that was years ago. Do you have a tutorial of how to put one together? And as far as one or two part series, I don't care as long as in information stays the same. I would have liked to have seen you sew a straight to the curve piece in this one though. Love love love the vidoes!!! You and Missouri Star are my favs!!

+Teresa Colvin thank you so much!!! We're glad you're enjoying the tutorials. I'm a little confused at your question on if we have a tutorial on how to put a quilt together. I love this quilt! And the editing! It doesn't matter to me if videos for longer projects are one part or two part, but I do like 1 part videos best. I think these types of projects might be better if they were a bit longer. (it was evident you were trying to keep the video as short as possible. It seems a bit rushed...and maybe you were thinking ahead and that's why you had a few times tripping over your words...and the ending seemed abrupt compared to your other videos.). I don't mind watching a half hour or longer instructional video, vs one that seems rushed, etc. Does that make sense? I love all of the projects you & Vanessa put out w/MSQ!! ❤️

This is a great project that I will definitely give a try. This is an awesome video and clear. Thank you for the tut, you ROCK! As for long versus 2 shorter videos my preference would be make it all in one video. It's easier to see the whole process together than have to watch many different videos. Plus if I have to wait a week for next video then I will forget what was in the previous video. That would also be annoying to wait if I wanted to do the project after reviewing the video. However, I'll love it and watch it either way you do them, but my preference, since you ask, would be always 1 video, regardless of the length. Thanks for even asking this question, I would image it'd be nice for you to do 2 shorter ones (you could get 2 bangs for you buck, rather 2 weeks of material for one project). Trying to get my own blog and tuts ready and scheduled I can certainly appreciate the help this would be for ya. So, again, I'll watch them anyway you feel you need to do them!

What type of iron do you use? I notice you keep it in the down position and it pops up to not scorch the ironing pad.....GENIUS!

One thing I learned in drawing class, turn it upside down for a fresh look. I also like a black and white photo, sometimes what is wrong is value scale.

I love your Dancing Dots tutorial but then again I love all of your tutorials. The quilt looks good upside down and right side up. I would love to make it but was wondering about making a lap size throw. Did you use up all of the jelly roll on the size that you have on the wall? Trying to figure out how to go about making it bigger. Love, love your tuts.

Hey Carmen, 1 jelly roll will definitely get you a lap sized throw! Thanks for watching the tutorials, so glad you're enjoying them!

I enjoy watching the quilt in one segment. When the landscaping one came out in two parts I ended up re watching the first one to remember what we did. Doing a great job! Really love the videos. Did you ever pick a shirt?

Thanks so much for the great informational videos! You're such a breath of fresh air :)
I personally would prefer the videos to be in smaller chunks, as it's nice to be able to go back to one part or one technique learned out of perhaps 5 you might be teaching as part of the whole project.
By the way, do you design your own tshirts that you wear? I would SO wear a sewing tshirt in real life :)
Thanks again for your awesomeness! Rock on!

+Man Sewing I just thought of something. It seems as though most of the people who have commented are in favor of having one long video. I thought of a compromise. Keep the long videos, but maybe have time stamps in the description so that I can skip to certain spots in the video in order to start where I left off?

Hi Rob! This is gorgeous! I am a beginner and have a question though ... when you spoke about ironing on the dots and then you did not blanket stitch them but just free motion quilted around them ... you said you weren't going to be washing this project so that was ok ... but if I do want this to be a washable project then should I blanket stitch around the dots before it's quilted ... is that good enough?
