Made the cap retainer and guy for my SOTABEAM 7 metre mast. A simple and clever idea Mike. Thank you. Best regards, Phil, Suffolk, U.K. 👍🇬🇧
Absolutely superior!! I will be doing a cheap knock off of this on my Explorer 20' Carbon Fiber Mast!
Perfect. Just got a telescoping mast and haven’t gotten around to getting what I need to guy it. Your video came just in time.
Great solution !!! I did this with my spiderbeam this weekend. Quick suggestion about the paracord- if you have some 550 floating around, it'll work just as well, just make your sections bigger to make tying them easier :D
Another genius idea and solution for fun/safety! 🎙️
I watched your video as well as two other similar ones. This was by far the one that makes the most sense. I have a Sotabeams 20 ft. mast and did the hose clamp version today and it works very well. Initially I didn't do the loops at the bottom, but added them just in case and it does make the mast more sturdy. I'll be more likely to take this on a backpacking adventure now that I did your mod. My biggest concern is outside of PA which states frown on using stakes in the ground (I never would in any national park in any state. 73 KN3A.
I use a single bongo tie wrapped around the bottom of the pole and a single small camping spike...plus plastic jubilee clips on top of a piece of cut rubber innertube slipped over the pole for the guys. I know this sounds odd but just variations.
I would mention to be careful with the hose clamps and get good stainless steel clamps. I have had some of the cheap ones rust at the screw just from humidity getting on them. Looks good Mike.
This works well. I’ve done the same with my other masts, but have CamJams instead of the S-Biners. When my Murder Mast arrives, I’ll try it with the S-Biners.
Great video, Mike! Timely, too. I’m hoping to set up portable for the first time ever next week. You’ve given me plenty to think of. 👍🏻
The hose clamp and loops are a great idea. Thanks
Great setup Mike. Simple, effective solution. Cool shirt also!
Thanks for the video. Exactly what i was looking for.
Totally agree with the T-Shirt Message.
Very nice Mike! 73
Attach the doublet to it!
Which weighs less? The three extra stakes used to secure the bottom or the paracord to run out to the existing stakes? It still looks a little wobbly to me. A shame it can't be secured any higher up as you don't have much leverage securing down low. But that's the length of the base segment so not much you can do.
perfect! I have had the bottom kick out more than I care to admit!
Great info thanks guy......
Great video. You demo’s this setup with another mast, where I have copied your method. Works great. Want to get one of those masts when Gigaparts get them in stock.
Hi Mike,
What antennas are u using with the Mast?
Thinking about the Carbon.
Are vertical wires working with the Mast?

Where'd ya get that fancy callsign tag on the Packtenna?
Slick!!
Hopefully Frank from Tank Radio is watching..... 🙂
How about a pvc cap with a whole drilled in the middle and a spike for a middle anchor?
Wait until tomorrow
Got mine coming. Any update on when the 10 mtr one will be available.

About 120 days.
Tnx K1YOU
I’m holding out for this one too.
Plastic cam jams wear out way too quick. Get metal ones.
0:37 how do you know?
Man I wish someone would make a way to put in ground without all the wires
Someone has created an adapter that has a tent spike on it. It’s not out yet, but it’s coming.
@@ChrisBeiting yes it was kind of a troll comment because the spikes are going to be available from another pota operator
I wish this was fiberglass I’d be all in. Why graphite?
It's carbon fiber.
Id probably design a 3D print that attaches a guyline but thats just me...
