I have spent a few years on and off studying and it seems like learning Chinese is an enormous never ending mountain to climb. Nevertheless, it allows me to tap into a culture which is mostly unavailable to western people as almost no westerner is able to speak Chinese. I attend a university with a sizable Chinese student group and I just love how they light up when I talk a bit of Chinese, as if all their homesickness is suddenly flowing away out of them. Those little interactions keep me motivated to study even more :)
I realized after watching your video that, as a native Chinese speaker, I can't fully grasp how difficult it is to learn Chinese. Every character requires memorizing its tone! No wonder many people learning Chinese find that, after not practicing for a while, they start to lose the tones. Keep it up!

That sounds great! Yes I think fluency will be a lifelong task.
