I use to put pegs where the levers use to go and hang my feet on them and cruise, this was back in the 90's. I just stumbled on this channel, didn't know fixies were a thing. My cousin use to own a bike shop and we would do this to the bikes that people didn't want. Times have definitely changed, very cool.
I ride a fixie bought it for £40 off Gumtree, was unsure but now it's my favorite bike, my more expensive pinnacle hybrid bike has been in the garage a lot since having the £40 fixie NoLogo fixie
I love this kind of build :) This frame needs to be preserved from rust. I think, if you often clean it and polish it with wax, it will stay in this condition.
Wait... A bike wrenching video without annoying LOFI HIP HOP CHILL BEATS in the background?!? Totally unwatchable. Jokes aside, awesome video. Definitely helped me understand more about chainline for the conversion I'm aiming to do.
Good call on the spacers for the rear wheel. RJ's vid was a lot more math, dishing, and manipulating dropout spacing. This one is much simpler and accessible. BTW, what's that saddle? Looks neat
Wow, I just came to your channel instead of watching that GCN video. It gave me chills because I was thinking, it is ridiculous to see them dominate youtube's cycling content.
You could have shifted a few washers and re-dish to center the rim in order to get your chain line closer. Of course that would have been more helpful a year ago. Good luck!
Guys. Never put a chain on like this guy. Measure it slack with the wheel as far forwards as possible then take the slack out by pulling the wheel back. It takes the litteral guess work and hoping its not tol long or too short out of the equasion.
About how much did you put into the bike with just parts alone. I found a old Japanese Sturdee that I wanted to fix up. I would have loved do the brush aluminum look but the owner chiseled his name on the bike. I'm 4'11 and finding small bike frames are virtually impossible where I'm at. I got lucky with the Sturdee.
May I ask, what is your frameset? I bought a 2nd hand fixie and we have the exact same frame. The seller is not sure about the specific brand. Thanks! Nice video!
Hey! Doing something similar to this at the moment. In regards to chainline I’m looking for an axle closer to the size you used (108-15mm range) ,, but unfortunately I don’t have the spares like yourself. Any recommendations on where to look? The 71mm shell is a right pain and can only find 5s axles in 126mm+ sizes
Ooft. Ok so yeh, the 71mm shell is a pain. You can try looking for Italian or French road BB sets as I believe they had 70mm shells but it might require buying the cups too. Or if you go bigger, 73mm MTB shells could be an option but I don't know how common a short axle would be in those "7" series.
Hey dude, recently got a raleigh myself, plan to convert to a fixie but ran into issues with the bb and headset. Specifically the daft thread pattern they use. Any recommendations for compatible headsets etc.?
Unfortunately not. There may be one or two new 26tpi headsets about but most of the time I try and swap the fork out to a 24tpi and the headset too if I'm modifying something like that.
It must be 10 years since I've heard any mention of a classic English road bike being inadvisedly crucified in this way ...... please, no more, it just looks cheap and tacky.
Chain ring bolts/tools have to be one of the worst fixing/tool combinations for the sole purpose in the world. Why the bolts can’t have a deeper recess on them is beyond me 🤷♂️
I love seeing old bikes live again, not in a landfill rotting away..👍

I like this bike. Lots of charm. I bought mine complete, all black. Good stuff.

i love your build more than the gcn. im a fixed gear rider (without brakes obviously) and it is lookin good to go! have fun with it!
To be fair, I like your builds a lot more than GCNs. I cringe a lot when watching them build a bike.
The purple chain....
They be like, well heres 2k worth of components for this bike, fuck me..
They know a lot about bikes, that's why they can throw any components on any bike
@@julz19 They are pretentious roadies shaming anything not high end carbon and that stuff
@@humildemarcelo LOL! They're former athletes. 😂
Looks good love the blue colour on the forks I'd love my hole bike in that 👍
It is a pretty nice blue.
I love this kind of build :)

*Works great, comfortable too*
Nice ride once again. Keep it up👍👌
Good build. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching
Awesome content dude! i learned a lot, keep making fixed gear videos!

My butt hurts just from watching that thing on there.
It's an eBay cheapy. VERTU is the brand. I've rode it to work today and it's surprisingly comfy.
Great work, i like the simple style
Fine job, it looks great.
Nice Bike Good Job Done ⚙️
Do you have a video which shows how to convert an older 3 speed into a single speed freewheeler?
Wow, I just came to your channel instead of watching that GCN video. It gave me chills because I was thinking, it is ridiculous to see them dominate youtube's cycling content.

Too much work especially if you don’t have truing stand or a dishing tool. This way you can do it with minimal tools work and money.
Hi, I was wondering if, now, a year later, you reccomend that wheelset? How has it held up?
I haven't been using it so I couldn't comment. It was a build and sell project for me.
Guys. Never put a chain on like this guy. Measure it slack with the wheel as far forwards as possible then take the slack out by pulling the wheel back. It takes the litteral guess work and hoping its not tol long or too short out of the equasion.
Really liked the video. Thanks 🙏
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice vid
Thanks
I like his voice and accent
I'm 6'1", so what size would I need?
Nice video. I'm curious about the saddle. How does it ride?
Surprisingly nice on the commute to work this morning!
nice build fella, though i'd prefer a drop bar.Just bought a mercier tour de france in white, gonna do something similar myself. bon continu
A Mercier should always be in pink ;)

Hello bro, 46 is a good size for you if you think of getting a frame.
double check your COG is allways a good tipp
It is. You'll soon find out if it's loose when you try and back pedal to stop.
May I ask, what is your frameset? I bought a 2nd hand fixie and we have the exact same frame. The seller is not sure about the specific brand. Thanks! Nice video!
It was a Raleigh but I've no idea which model in their range it was.

OH, I should say French and Italian might be ISO fit rather than JIS though!
Is it raleigh?

after tensioning the chain you could witness the shimano biopace effect
could you add a link for the wheels or any you reccomend? Im thinking of the wabis
amzn.to/2COpMUW I can't find the exact set now but they were something like these.
I love these videos. But I especially love these videos high :))
Where did you bought the singel speed kit?
eBay probably!
What is the size of your new wheel set? 650b?
700C
@@MonkeyShred I thought its 650b since there are more clearance on rear frame. Anyway, thanks man!
Does the steel not rust?
Yeh, it will do a little. There's bound to be spots that the linseed oil doesn't get to.
How prominent are problems with pedal strike on conversions?
Run 165mm crank arms and you'll be fine
But what about the brakes?
have you done any more to the dawn safety ? thanks for sharing !! :
Not yet Walt. It's stuck at the back of the garage. :(
if you paint it a bit it would look like brand new bike
How does that saddle fair? Been curious if its any good since i saw an ad for it
I've seen adverts pop up for them too. It was quite comfy tbh. I'm not sure of the lifespan of it though as I sold the bike
do you have a link for the wheel set?
La tension te va a sacar la rueda muy mal
It's not that bad ;) I rode it around. It has minimal slack.
Thank u
Do you ever send the bikes you sell via courier, if so who do you use?
I do. Paisley Freight.
@@MonkeyShred Thanks for the reply, very helpful.
130 bcd /140 bcd ?
No idea sorry.
omg you have the same bike as me loll
What is this? I also recognize the lugs..just got frameset only without badge. Is it raleigh? What model?
same frame bro haha
It's quite a generic old frame!
those shimano brake pads will eat through your rim in no time, i found Kool Stop Supra 2 to be best. Greetings from germany
I do love a good Kool Stop pad. I have them on a few retro MTBs with canti brakes and they stop really well.
so thats why fixie bikes almost always have mismatched wheels. haha!
Why's that?
@@MonkeyShred Im saying it sarcastically, because many fixie bikes have mixed match wheels.
Ugly as sin but lots of fun. 👍
this is nice. (y)
Это ж ХВЗ
better to ride fixed gear and 2 brakes
One brake is fine with fixed but if you're not feeling confident two brakes is definitely a plus.
It must be 10 years since I've heard any mention of a classic English road bike being inadvisedly crucified in this way ...... please, no more, it just looks cheap and tacky.
It is cheap and tacky. That was the whole idea. It's 100% not a classic bike though. Gas pipe steel 80s Raleigh, nope.
Chain ring bolts/tools have to be one of the worst fixing/tool combinations for the sole purpose in the world. Why the bolts can’t have a deeper recess on them is beyond me 🤷♂️
I can get behind this statement.
MonkeyShred you wonder if the person who invented them actually bothered to ever see if it all worked! 🤷♂️🙂
too much talk, just build it
Shitty geometry for a fixed gear
What do you look for geometry wise in a fixed gear setup then?
RollinRat good for you
