    I just had an oil cooler failure in a Cummins ISX in a Peterbilt. I cought the problem early on so the cooling system wasn't to contaminated. A local diesel repair shop recommend a coolant system degreaser and it worked awesome. It is made by VE Labs L-11 radiator cooling system degreaser. It is a 16oz bottle and flushed it out twice with two bottles of this degreaser and it came out clean even the overflow tank great stuff and it's very low sudsing detergent. Thanks for the videos they are all great.

    I've used both Cascade and Purple Power. I prefer Purple as it seems to rinse better. You're right about being time consuming. Depending on how bad the system is I can easily burn a day. Overflow tanks I remove and blast them with a pressure washer and Purple.

    Perfect,
    Really perfect...
    I tried 1 : 9 - dish soap : water mix
    It worked great, but I had to run 3 circulation periods of clean water to get rid of the remaining soap inside...

    Someone brought one of those junk Izuzu equipped 4 cyl diesels in the shop about a year ago that had been driven for months with an oil cooler leak till the hoses literally fell apart from oil. We fixed the POS but whatever we couldn't remove and clean was just a nasty slimy mess. I only had a jug of that ERA laundry soap that we used to wash rags with for something I felt would be safe to use. I flushed with a few cap fulls of that ERA in the system till it was hot 3 or 4 times and it actually worked very well.

    Dawn is pretty good at cleaning oil from contamination coolant systems. I work at a CAT dealership, we had a oil cooler failure on a 3516 power module (200 gallons coolant system), Dawn made the process so much easier.

    I used diesel to flush oil sludge in the cooling system. I fill the cooling system entirely with diesel. Then i run the engine for 1 minute, Oil dilutes quickly with diesel. Then i quickly drain the cooling system. Afterwards i flushed it with water and detergent several times.

    Thank you for all your information you give on your channel. My uncle told me about Amsoil years ago win I got a brand new pick up.truck. I tried it and I fell in love with it. I started to use it on my semi truck and the used it in my 2ed brand new diesel truck I started with the engine oil, then the front and rear differentials and transfer case and then the transmission and then my coolant on my pick up truck. So everything on my truck is Amsoil and i’ve never seen such an improvement by just using a different lubricant than I have with Amsoil my locking differential locks, smoother, and faster than it did before in my transmission shifts like a CVT transmission it’s like it never shifts because it’s so smooth. So using OEM products isn’t always the best thing to use. And plus Dec cool sucks and I do not like it at all, and it is like a acid and sometimes will cause more problems than its trying to prevent. And Amsoil heavy duty coolant is great for any on an off-road heavy duty, trucks, passenger cars and trucks and heavy duty pick up trucks. and I have noticed win my cooling fan comes on it takes less time to cool back down then it did before on the exact same hill and I would say around the same temperature out side. You should try it.

      If anyone uses powdered dishwasher soap, like cascade, based on this advice, be aware that most US brands are mostly fairly corrosive sodium hypochlorite as the main ingredient, and you will want to NOT leave them in the system for any extended period of time, as aluminum, magnesium, and pot metal contacted, will suffer excessive oxidation.
      OP: What amount do you use for the ~ gallons of coolant volume in a 7.3? Any procedural advice?

    • @cbmech2563
      @cbmech2563 2 роки тому

      @@orcoastgreenman I use a 1/4 cup in a heavy truck with a 10 to 12 gallon cooling system, my 97 took 6. At that it depends on how bad the oil contamination is. I normally take the truck out and get it hot, then drain and flush. I usually just put water in and run for a day or two so I can see if I need to do it again before I put coolant back in.

But the bracket broke and the filter smacked off the front passenger side shock and got all dented up so I turned off the shutoff valves to it. What do I have to do to go about replacing it..? do I order a new empty filter and fill it with chemicals for the coolant? its a baldwin filter and i see it says something about ammonium nitrate on it or something? or do I just order the new filter with the bracket bolt it back up and spin the filter back on without adding anything to the filter? I can't find anything about it in CAT manual for my truck.
