Honestly, since my honesty is how I earned my living, handling OPM when the corporations learned me. Enough about me,bc I became somewhat reclusive years ago. Short intro may help explain the value (to me) of what you shared. When she asked Bob if he used liquid eyeliner, he replied: No. pencil, my eyes filled with tears bc I could NEVER use liquid around my eyes, not being textbook. Then, when he mentioned pancake, I remembered that was the only stage makeup my skin tolerated. I was an eighties lady, complete with giant hair & extra makeup as a local performer & went back there tonight thanks to you lol. Was a divorced working mother by age 20, determined my only son would never know the embarrassment of eating free lunch at school. I was only 14 when I married & had my son, so as an elder now, I see how low I set my success bar, but I loved that baby more than anything. His dad & I planned our lives together when I was only 13 & he was 16, back when we knew everything lol. Being born with birth defects & a life expectancy of 1-4 years, my wonderful parents spoiled me, I studied from books overtime eager to please bc I could never return all of the nights of sleep they lost, dealing with their 5th child being defective & waking the house with night terrors. Dad was a coal miner & Mom was busy making sure everyone has 3 hot meals daily & clean clothes. My brother joined the army after HS graduation & gave his room to me, giving our middle sister our room as a teen girl needs. Awe, I loved & admired my brother, who came home on leave from basics as a surprise. Bob Dylan has traveled the world & met so many people that I wonder if he even remembers playing at the Jamboree in the Hills in WV? That Sunday was the day my brother sneaked in; I was home alone bc our parents always went to visit the grandparents, still in Logan County but out of town. Oldest sister already married with children & the other gone with friends. My brother came in with a friend, my bff was with me, we were probably 10 or 11 & I was thrilled my brother was back! So was my friend who had a crush on him. Those guys had the munchies, my brother asked if he could have his room back awhile & I said Sure! They got his duffel bag & their guitars in & escaped to his room. We girls made sandwiches, took a loaded tray & pecked on the door. I blushed that his guest pointed out my favorite black light poster & asked if I really liked that guy. We grew up too fast so knew from experience why they were hiding awhile & figured a tray of snacks would be welcome. Of course we left them alone to practice, as I do my grandson & his band now in the building in my yard I gave to him. Hard to accept my grandson is now 18, four years older than I was when his Dad was born! Happy he’s graduating this year, they live next door to me, and the docs wouldn’t let me go back to work a year before he was born! Bob spoke the gospel truth in this video about the years flying by. As a child, we await Christmas & the years are long. The older we get, as a 62 year old grandmother, it feels like Christmas comes every month instead of every year! So if you are young, please slow down & enjoy life as much as possible. My life is a cautionary tale, but I think that’s the most important thing I could discern from it bc looking back is the best part of it now. Naw, I sincerely love my little family & am grateful to still be here, although my self abuse, poor career choices, etc have subtracted from my health & pleasures. I believe my physical body feels more like 92 than 62, although my maturity feels like it might have peaked at 14. Of course as long as this is, I left my personal information out. I got my GED at age 18, then my associates degree in banking & financing going to night school part time. My automotive degree is from Virginia Tech, obtained after moving south bc the owner of Advance Auto in the early nineties “only had females as cashiers, but he didn’t want to lose me”. Free education is something to never turn down, regardless haha. Pardon typos please, bc new glasses can’t help medical issues. Three strokes, a couple heart attacks, so I never got to see Bob in concert. But my brother gave me my first album, then sent a new stereo to me when he was stationed in Germany, so I bought the 8 tracks, cassettes & CD’s rolling with the times on my little budget. I never remarried, became a workaholic instead so I got me, and was able to buy this house next door to my kids once invited. Gee! I managed to tell my life story with Bob being the constant haha. My grandson is named Dylan of course bc his Dad grew up with Bob Dylan’s voice as the man in Mom’s house still, except our new generation Dylan. My ex & I are still friends although we grew in different directions one knowing we didn’t know it all as teens. I’m still learning. NM, I think we met on G+ but my memory is not as solid as my honesty. I love & appreciate the nightly Radio shows, bc now you know I live alone & they’re really my lullabies. I love everyone now, so don’t think me a cougar when I say I love & appreciate you. In survival mode, so haven’t had impure thoughts in many years! There's a bit of snobbery involved when we push the narrative that a lifelong fan "is above" the newcomers. Then it becomes more about you and less about the performance and the craft of lyrics and song. Exclusionary or hierarchal. I'm a subscriber because of videos like this. I was 16 during this Wembly event and was excited to see Bob getting his due with the MTV crowd. I cut my teeth on Dylan because of my dad's influence, and I'm still a big fan today.

no, my observation and listening to this, Martha Quinn didn't do her homework. In fact it seemed like the older 44 ish Bob Dylan being interviewed by the youngish 20ish Bob Dylan exactly how Bob Dylan wanted it to be. I like Martha Quinn and respect her more as she evolved into maturity. Bob Dylan mentioned two Albums Street Legal and Shot of Love, she didn't have a clue and doubt it if she even listened to these two albums. I am not a journalist but I did listen to street legal and clearly enough to get some kind of an explicit responses and insightfulness happening. Martha Quinn didn't seem to be familiar with the albums and that's where the interview failed.

I saw his gig that day. It was actually a day festival with Nick Lowe, UB40 and Santana. Dylan and a great band were on last and it was a great concert. He was very generous in his offering too.

I became a Dylan fan when Slow Train was released, had a decent collection of his older stuff and took my younger brother to the True Confessions Tour with Tom Petty in 1986 (or 87?). Glad he's still here making music!
Slow Train was the first album of his I got. And I didn't have to listen to it in secret like some of my other records because the overt Christian themes were deemed acceptable. I was fortunate enough to see Dylan and Petty together a handful of times and the shows were just spectacular. I've seen Dylan more than I've seen anyone else but haven't gone to any shows for some years. I saw Dylan on his own, with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, with the Grateful Dead and with Paul Simon. All wonderful memories!
Martha did a legendary job to co-create such a relaxed atmosphere. Bob all at ease and enjoying himself. Nice. Very natural, like the wind through the leaves.
I had to chuckle when he was talking about his older fans that wouldn’t typically go to a show or even go out and buy an album, Because last month at the age of 82 he performed in Dallas, his Rough and Rowdy Ways tour. There were all ages there, including folks in wheelchairs, and who had to be close to his age if not the same. It was great to see that And it was great to see him still performing.
Actually in a lot of interviews he is deliberately not telling the truth and misleading the interviewer , I mean have you seen the Rolling Thunder revue documentary , strange in that it's a mix of fiction and reality, that whole scene with Sharon Stone is totally made up...

For those of you looking for any sign of him referring to the pact that he made with the devil. 11:40 He talks about what happens if people walk out of his show, and he says throughout the coarse of the show he "changes" and they might perceive that. He says, it just feels like I've been around for sooo long. 40 years ago. Everyone is a legend in their our right. The album is called Infidels. He quotes the Bible Acts 10:34 "no respecter of persons". Which is a totally odd way of speaking in 1984. It's one great big church?? But he doesn't want to talk about religion at the end and then references how some people find peace in doing yoga.

This is definitely the most revealing interview that I have seen with him. Maybe it’s because he clearly is attracted to Martha and she is really interesting and interested and intelligent and she knows her stuff?
When you ask Bob good questions and you're polite, you'll get good answers. When you're smug and ask him nothing but the usual ish like "aRe YoU tHE vOIcE oF YoUR gEneRaTiON?", you're going to get the evasive, moody Dylan. Martha chose the former. She chose wisely.
Let's not forget that MTV and the bands that it helped promote were a problem that many 60s/70s acts could not - or were slow to - figure out. Bob knew how to respond to the clueless journalists who interviewed him in the early 60s. They were part of the establishment and he had lightning in a bottle. I may be in the minority, but I'm thinking that the roles may be reversed this time around. What's your favorite MTV video, Bob? 😔 "I've got a few of them..." I think he's off balance and feeling a bit out of step. And he doesn't want to do videos?!?
Yes, This was a low point for Dylan, he had lost much of his audience, he was post born again phase and looking for inspiration and kind of felt out of touch with the current 80's scene. I heard a story that Jerry Garcia heard Dylan was playing at the Beacon in NY sometime in the mod 80's and the show wasn't sold out and Jerry showed up and joined Dylan for one or even two nights which eventually led to Dylan and the Dead tour in '86 or '87 which I think helped reinvigorate Dylan which led into another prolific period through the 90's and aughts.
He’s totally right, though - the concerts were still packed on that tour. A few people booed and shouted, sure, you can hear it on the tour recordings. But the whole thing was kind of inflated by the press (and probably his label/management to help promote sales).

You can watch videos of Dylan himself whinging about it. You can read an endless number of interviews of people who were there and experienced it. Or, as you say, you can just watch videos from the tour and hear it for yourself. Yes, the tour was packed....Dylan was a star, but people were there to see him play folk music, and were definitely vocally resistant to him going electric. This is basically a demonstrable fact, and him denying it here doesn't change that. Dylan is a notorious fabulist. It's one of the most fascinating things about him. He made a film for Netlix with Scorsese that was basically a celebration of Dylan the fabricator. It's absolutely full of lies. They had fun with it.

Below average musician. Fake protest singer. Caught the zeitgeist in the mid 60s and wrote inspired lyrics (often about ex-girlfriends) but was never an original melodist. Had a brief fling w country and then settled into a mundane blues/rock format. Like the 50s icons he revered--James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Brando--he's more about mysterious image than substance. I mean, he has sounded horrible for years, but has anyone noticed? That's the con. The emperor's clothes.

And he has written some fabulous songs on some fabulous albums, over the better part of fifty years. Blood on the Tracks is as good as any romantic poetry of the past few hundred years, if not ever. That’s far more than most people - and most popular artists - can hope to achieve in a lifetime. He might not be to your musical taste, but then again…you clicked on the video, too!

I had to chuckle when he was talking about his older fans that wouldn’t typically go to a show or even go out and buy an album, Because last month at the age of 82 he performed in Dallas, his Rough and Rowdy Ways tour. There were all ages there, including folks in wheelchairs, and who had to be close to his age if not the same. It was great to see that And it was great to see him still performing.
Yes when a great artist knows his art ,and the interviewer is aware ..We get a truly honest and wonderful view....

Actually in a lot of interviews he is deliberately not telling the truth and misleading the interviewer , I mean have you seen the Rolling Thunder revue documentary , strange in that it's a mix of fiction and reality, that whole scene with Sharon Stone is totally made up...

We know rock stars use makeup, but it's still funny watching Dylan discussing eyeliner, pancake concealer and requesting the 'make-up box'. Showbiz is a whole different world to the one I inhabit.

For those of you looking for any sign of him referring to the pact that he made with the devil. 11:40 He talks about what happens if people walk out of his show, and he says throughout the coarse of the show he "changes" and they might perceive that. He says, it just feels like I've been around for sooo long. 40 years ago. Everyone is a legend in their our right. The album is called Infidels. He quotes the Bible Acts 10:34 "no respecter of persons". Which is a totally odd way of speaking in 1984. It's one great big church?? But he doesn't want to talk about religion at the end and then references how some people find peace in doing yoga.
He seems pretty happy here.

When you ask Bob good questions and you're polite, you'll get good answers. When you're smug and ask him nothing but the usual ish like "aRe YoU tHE vOIcE oF YoUR gEneRaTiON?", you're going to get the evasive, moody Dylan. Martha chose the former. She chose wisely.

Let's not forget that MTV and the bands that it helped promote were a problem that many 60s/70s acts could not - or were slow to - figure out. Bob knew how to respond to the clueless journalists who interviewed him in the early 60s. They were part of the establishment and he had lightning in a bottle. I may be in the minority, but I'm thinking that the roles may be reversed this time around. What's your favorite MTV video, Bob? 😔 "I've got a few of them..." I think he's off balance and feeling a bit out of step. And he doesn't want to do videos?!?
Yes, This was a low point for Dylan, he had lost much of his audience, he was post born again phase and looking for inspiration and kind of felt out of touch with the current 80's scene. I heard a story that Jerry Garcia heard Dylan was playing at the Beacon in NY sometime in the mod 80's and the show wasn't sold out and Jerry showed up and joined Dylan for one or even two nights which eventually led to Dylan and the Dead tour in '86 or '87 which I think helped reinvigorate Dylan which led into another prolific period through the 90's and aughts.

Him claiming that people weren't booing when he went electric is rich. I love how lying through his teeth has always been part of his presentation.
He’s totally right, though - the concerts were still packed on that tour. A few people booed and shouted, sure, you can hear it on the tour recordings. But the whole thing was kind of inflated by the press (and probably his label/management to help promote sales).
@@VideoAmericanStyle You can watch as many videos as you like of Robbie Robertson and the rest of the Band talking about getting booed all through their set every night. You can watch videos of Dylan himself whinging about it. You can read an endless number of interviews of people who were there and experienced it. Or, as you say, you can just watch videos from the tour and hear it for yourself. Yes, the tour was packed....Dylan was a star, but people were there to see him play folk music, and were definitely vocally resistant to him going electric. This is basically a demonstrable fact, and him denying it here doesn't change that. Dylan is a notorious fabulist. It's one of the most fascinating things about him. He made a film for Netlix with Scorsese that was basically a celebration of Dylan the fabricator. It's absolutely full of lies. They had fun with it.

Minstrel Identity and a nod to prior eras of Harlem or other places where people go for to see a show. The makeup is quite apparent in the tangled up in blue video also. Blood on the Tracks is hardly the equivalent of Keats: Gimme me a break! I clicked on him because I grew up on that music and played it, but can't believe how much sloppy musicianship and schlock writing Dylan's gotten away with since. It's America's fixation on celebrity "icons."

Bob Dylan: the most over-rated sage in human history. A con artist.
What’s the ‘con’ exactly? He has made decades of wonderful poetic music adored by countless millions. He has always disputed being identified as a ‘sage’ - that was a label bestowed by the press in his early days.
Below average musician. Fake protest singer. Caught the zeitgeist in the mid 60s and wrote inspired lyrics (often about ex-girlfriends) but was never an original melodist. Had a brief fling w country and then settled into a mundane blues/rock format. Like the 50s icons he revered--James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Brando--he's more about mysterious image than substance. I mean, he has sounded horrible for years, but has anyone noticed? That's the con. The emperor's clothes.
@@clappzzz again, all of that is kind of projection onto him. He’s never really said he is anything more than just a musician. And he has written some fabulous songs on some fabulous albums, over the better part of fifty years. Blood on the Tracks is as good as any romantic poetry of the past few hundred years, if not ever. That’s far more than most people - and most popular artists - can hope to achieve in a lifetime. He might not be to your musical taste, but then again…you clicked on the video, too!
