kind of a stupid question but how much super sculpey did you use? i can't find sculpey in my country so i have to order it via ebay and i don't have any references for sculptures of about this size

The tinfoil is an excellent idea to save on clay. What is the modelling material? Regular clay or plastic sculpey stuff?

armature is usually aluminum wire one can buy at a craft or art store. They sell many different gauges.
