    Instead, it became the catalyst for Ben Solo’s return to the light.

    • @windghost2
      @windghost2 2 роки тому +50

      Which was a horrible decision to be honest. This is THE moment that told viewers that Ben Solo wants to stay in the dark and that he's not coming back to the light. That he WILL achieve the full potential of a Skywalker strong in the dark side, what Anakin couldn't achieve because of his horrific injuries, what Luke OUTRIGHT REJECTED.
      I wanted to see that potential realized, I wanted to see what a Skywalker's power would look like if they went fully in on being a Sith Lord. TLJ said no to that once Snoke was killed and sadly TROS was trying to fix the mistake of the previous film and please the fans, while it was rushed due to JJ having to get a script out be Feb of 2018 after being brought on to EP 9 in late summer.
      Basically, Kylo after TFA, just like Rey and ESPECIALLY FINN, was wasted for plot points that honestly still make no sense to this day.

      @@windghost2 The entire point of this scene is that Ben DIDN'T want to kill his father. The sheer conflict he faces in this scene is meant to show you he still has ties to the light side and isn't completely turned. After he kills Han he doesn't feel closer to the dark side in the way he expected, he actually feels lost, so lost that he doesn't even anticipate the bolt Chewbacca fires at him. Ben was always meant to turn back to the light and was never as broken as Anakin was.

    • @windghost2
      @windghost2 Рік тому +11

      @@brunomatassini9879 He was never supposed to be redeemed. Him killing Han, despite how it broke him which I did liked, just basically said he made his choice to stay in the darkness.
      That scene where the last of the sunlight that was shining down upon both Han and Ben, died and shrouded Ben in the dark red light just said, "Yeah he's staying in the darkness and not going home."
      My guy killed his dad to defend a genocide machine and yet he still deserves redemption? Nah, that's just wack.
      The only reason he was even redeemed was because JJ was trying to save the ST after TLJ and the fans kept asking for it.
      But before TLJ, Kylo was supposed to go from his weakest version of himself (TFA) to his strongest version of him (Ep 9, IF JJ had the whole trilogy to himself) a reverse Vader, something that Adam Driver described when talking about JJ's vision for Kylo Ren. Throughout that description, he was NEVER redeemed at all.
      Kylo never deserved redemption and he should've been killed by Finn or Rey or just imprisoned after the war with a life sentence with no parole.
      So he stays a villain and dies or is imprisoned as one. Sorry for the verbatim.

    • @mothafuckensteverogers4210
      @mothafuckensteverogers4210 Рік тому +1

      @@windghost2 the whole point of his character is the fact he is not Vader. Corrupted by the dark side like his grandfather? Yes. Killing of younglings, destroying a jedi temple? Also yes. Wearing a mask, to strike fear and slaughtering others like nothing? Just like Vader. But the difference is that Ben Solo always had his parents, loving people he could look up to and did too. The fact that he always wanted to be like his dad, a space pilot, proves that point. Anakin had to leave his mother when he was nine, he was then too late to save her. And his master might have been like a brother to him, but not a father like Qui-Gon would’ve been. Which made it easier for Palpatine to act like a father figure in order to corrupt him. This didn’t work with Ben because deep down he still loved his parents. Just like Anakin loved his son and his daughter when he realised that they didn’t give up on him. This same love binds them.

Not so much like Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, but more along the lines of Troy or Braveheart. A full-scale, all-loyalties-will-be-tested war type movie, where Snoke spreads his evil influence from planet to planet, unchecked, and Luke is ACTUALLY AFFECTED by the events of the movie - _not_ selfishly isolated from them.

    Something in me thinks that Han was the one that ignited Ben's lightsaber. I mean, they both had their hands on the hilt, rather tightly I might add. Han probably knew there was little he could do to safely bring his son back home, being surrounded by troopers and up against an enemy he was no match for (Snoke, though I guess in retrospect; Palpatine). Both father and son were trapped, and the only way for Han to SOMEWHAT save his son was to do what Ben was too afraid to do. That would explain Ben's almost surprised "Thank you."

    Trivia Fact: The Scene in which Darth Vader meets Ahsoka Tano just before thier fight in Season 2 of Rebels entitled "Twilight of the Appentice" is almost certainly based on this.
    The dialogue is very similar, and so are the visuals. Vader to Ahsoka "Our long awaited meeting has come at last" and later "Anakin Skywalker was weak, I destroyed him".
    Han asks Ben to remove his mask to see his true face, and in the scene in Rebels, Ahsoka damages Vader's mask, catching a glimpse of right eye before he calls her name, rather like Kylo Ren calls Han Solo's name.
    TFA came out about a year before Season 2 of Rebels, so I think its obvious where Dave Filoni got his inspiration from.

    He was never a Vader because he was never fully committed. I’m sure he had the power but he only turned to the dark side because he was scared of Luke and of going home. He only had the intentions of going to the dark side because it was the only place for him to go. Unlike Anakin, who never had his intentions swayed. He wanted to save the one he loved so deeply that he was willing to do anything. And when she died Vader’s grief and pain mad him enormously strong. Kylo never had any of those emotions.
