    I love the Sector Dial series. Jaeger LeCoultre took three master control series models and gave them an amazing look. I decided I wanted to get the Sector Dial Master Control Date as soon as it was released at SIHH and have never regretted getting it. On the Chronograph, it should be noted that it comes with the JLC 751 family of movements which is an amazing haute horology chronograph movements that incorporates the Autotractor movement family of improvements and is a movement that is not only haute horologie, but also rugged and worthy of the JLC sports watches it is also used in.

      And a fraction the cost of a very similar looking PP Sector Chrono. But JLC has a much finer movement than the Valjoux in the PP.

    Love my JLC Sector Dial Chrono. Its got a great mix of vintage cues (syringe hands, 2 subdials) and contemporary touches (brushed shoulders, contrasting dial finishes). Perfect size at 40mm and not overly thick when wearing cuffs. Just a great all-rounder.

    The quarter Arabic ‘Sector Dial’ is such a classy design. Those blued skeletonised syringe hands are a beautiful feature.
    It is hard to choose a favourite from this range of watches. The Master Control Date is the simple classic. The Master Chronograph, like you say, has great symmetry but, The Master Geographic is my favourite of the bunch. The fact that complication has been so elegantly squeezed in to the watch is just beautiful. Maybe one day!
    Yet another enjoyable and educational video here my friend. Great stuff! ✊

  • @terryc6420

    I own the sector dial geographic, and there is a characteristic that is unique to this watch that hasn't been covered by any reviewers. When the time is around 6:30, the skeletonized hands overlap with the 2-tier sunken second time zone dial and the recessed city disc, the wearer is rewarded with a delightfully complex lower half dial with a lot of textures and details. It's like looking into a miniaturized canyon with all different sorts of rock formations.
    A minor annoyance of this watch is the crown at 10 o'clock should only be turned one way, ie towards you. If you turn it the other way, the crown will come unscrewed and you could lose it if it drops off. I can't believe JLC allowed such a design flaw in their movements. ugh.

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  4 роки тому +1

      Love that detail Terry and thank you for highlighting it. I need to get a geographic in hand (the way the subdial has been arranged is so typically Jaeger-LeCoultre) Thanks so much for your comment and insight on this piece and continue wearing it in good health, brother! PS. They need to bring back compressor crowns... I'll be sure to emphasise the point if there's ever a chance for me to collaborate with them.

    Great topic! The sector dial watches were such an amazing offering from JLC especially when you consider that at the time things were in a weird spot for them. thanks The master control series was just discontinued, the Polaris line was just getting in the ground, and the sector dials got lost in between with like zero marketing because it was only a 1 year run and they needed to get the polaris line selling. In some ways then the sector dials didn't fit in the JLC lineup but amazing watches all the same. Highly underrated and under marketed, it's a shame they didn't continue production.

    I'd be absolutely smitten with the chrono if it had a display caseback. Especially because there's no running seconds dial and it has low water resistance anyway. Moreover, JLC movements are generally pretty well finished and decorated. A hit and a miss for me. The other two however are huge value props and all three are stunners regardless.

    Another great video helping us mere mortals understand design in watches. I would be interested in your thoughts, from a design perspective, of the Longines Heritage Classic L2.828.4.73.2 that seems to share similar design characteristics but is 1/2 the price. My only criticism of the Longines is how they cut off 1/2 the 6 for the seconds dial.

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  4 роки тому +1

      Way ahead of you Karl ;) The writeup of the Heritage Classic is in the works! It takes a much more literal approach (mirroring a vintage piece in the family, but scaling all of the elements up) It seems like they wanted to keep the symmetry with the numerals at the quarters and followed through with the larger than average sub-seconds for functional purposes. But it should be a great video! Expect to see it in the next two weeks, brother

      @@@johnayres2303 - I have tried on the Longines Heritage Classic at an AD, and it left me wanting more. The dial was not crisp like the renderings you see on the Longines website. I have also not seen a JLC sector dial in the flesh. Definitely want to. I have tried on a JLC Master Control Date with silver dial (Ref 1548420), and regrettably the numerals just blended in with the dial. I suspect these JLC sector dials have much more pop. Enjoy the hunt.

    As a side issue, I like to have a date on a watch but I understand that some people feel it messes with the symmetry of the face. So why don’t manufacturers make more use of the back of the watch for say date and power reserve indication. You pick the watch up in the morning from your bedside table, you note the date and power reserve for the rest of the day, you then have the best of both worlds.
