    When yoship said that it ment one simple thing - he'd rather you be happy and have fun and stop playing with good memories, rather than "be forced" to play every day and then quit for good with a bad taste in your mouth. That's exactly what happened to me in WoW and is not the mistake he wants us to do.

      That's literally what games should be about: having fun. High respect to Yoshi-P for holding this essential idea even as a businessman. We really need more people like him or at least acknowledge this in the MMO industry. I feel like it would bring lots of life back into the genre.

    Dont feel old...Im 51 this year and I love MMOs. When I was a kid and adolescent, the best we had were pen and paper (the true classic D&D lol). So, when I got a "real" computer and all of these MMOs were coming out, I was truly fascinated (and still am tbh) to be able to immerse myself into the visuals and gameplay that previously had been only a personal mental construct.
    On a side note, I just last night downloaded the trial version of FFXIV. So, I am ultra new to this particular game. Thank you for your vids, as they helped me decide to give it a go.

    The difference with XIV is that the things it asks you to do every day are...small. Though repetitive, they are small chunks of your time, and they are by no means necessary. Youd on't HAVE to do Main Scenario every day to grind some ludicrous reputation. And even when you've done all the things you want to do, there's lots of other things you CAN do. Triple Triad, hunts, crafting, PVP, achievements, glamour, treasure chests....
    Most importantly, all of these things reward *you,* not your character sheet. They give *you* something *you* want, not fill a progress bar so you can keep doing more banal shit.

    • @Nhouyengah
      @Nhouyengah 4 роки тому +5

      Also the level sync system is really really good when you think about it, the fact that job rotations even if really simplified (SAM 50) are still fun to play makes the leveling experience and roulettes less of a chore. Also coming back to older content is fun, sure you get your Labyrinth Alliance raid most of the time but when you get something else it makes the experience a lot more fun and makes you relearn fights and encounters. And the fact that every job really feels different and is playable on the same character makes the game a lot less tiresome.

      Even during content lulls I have never spent more money then time in FFXIV lol.

    Another big thing for me in FFXIV is that it respects my time - there's no bullshit rng that keeps me from doing content. Here's a comparison if i wanna do the hardest content in the game: in a few days i grind out the tokens to buy the current armor set (phantasmagoria or neo-ishgardian sets), then i do the hardest content and get directly rewarded with BiS items.
    in WoW if i don't get the "correct legendary" (in legion, when i quit) or the correct azerite traits and don't farm out AP constantly i don't get invited to groups. heck, being in the wrong class/spec will not get me invited to groups, which means i'll get left behind and get fewer and fewer groups. This seems very unfriendly and toxic.

    • @yraco1232
      @yraco1232 4 роки тому +6

      The way that loot drops work in FFXIV just feels much better. In WoW you run endgame content once a week and that's it, you get what you get so you'd better hope you're lucky. If you don't get a gear piece that you want or need then it sucks to be you I guess. Oh and if it's old content then you can also only run that once a week even though it probably won't give anything you need.
      In FFXIV the endgame content gives tokens that you can turn into whatever piece of gear you want to get at the moment. Also, if you're running a raid and want a helmet token but none show up or I roll low then you can immediately be rewarded for playing again. It's so much more satisfying to have guaranteed rewards rather than hoping for the best.

      I played WoW since beta and i really liked the system in WotLK. You can run normal dungeons, get badges and get the outdated raid gear. You could still progress without spending hours on raiding. And then ( i guess it was with Pandaria or so) they introduced random stats on gear which was one of the worst things they could do imho.
      If i run dungeons/raids and "my" gear drops i don't want to get a slap in the face if it doesn't have the correct stats. You can do that in games like Diablo or Path of Exile, but not in a MMO.
      I recently started FFXIV (31 WHM atm) and i'm loving it so far. The graphics are nice, the story is really well done and interesting and although there's a lot to do i somehow don't feel stressed because i can't do everything i want at once. I'll take my time leveling my WHM, enjoy the story and then let's see.
      Oh, i got carried away...anyway, it's great to have this badge system here 😅

      Second, that's pretty interesting. I only went to WoW in Legion then left to properly start FFXIV (played a bit before but only to about 30) about halfway through BFA. Kind of weird to think that they had a system like that years ago then threw it away because slowing things down keeps people around longer.

      I don't know if that was a reason, but a lot of people were whining that "casuals" can get raid-gear without raiding, even if it's a tier lower than the actual raid tier. It was pure envy that other people get better gear even if they haven't "worked hard" for it.

This type of toxic relationship with the game seems to have given the player base an overall pretty dark and negative mindset.

    We had 1 guy in our group however who just grinded 13 hours a day doing palace runs / hunt trains / dailies and he would get burnt out for days at a time. I definitely agree with Yoshi and think spicing up the games you play instead of playing until you hate the game is healthier

    soon after savage released, the static disintegrated. i had put in so much time and effort into that, that when it "broke up" i lost that passion to play. so i stepped away for almost 8 or 9 months. when i hopped back in, i was glad to find that i wasnt so far behind my friends who remained in the game than i would have thought. i never recommend or encourage the type of playstyle that i did. slow down.. take your time and give yourself some room to breath. the game aint going anywhere. i have taken many breaks in the past and will probably going forward.. youre never so far behind that catching up is unattainable.

When it's late into the night and I can feel my body getting tired or the grind is getting to me for those job quests... I stop, go to bed, and come back refreshed the next day for more. Oh you would hear the suggestion from Activision Blizz..
    "If you want to take break from WoW, we have lot of amazing games like overwatch, warcraft 3 reforged and soon diablo immortal" haha..ha..ugh.

    Never seen your videos but this video was exactly what I needed to hear. I have been playing multiple games without missing a day due to dailies and such and just don't enjoy them anymore. Its definitely time for a break. Thank you.

    Picked up this game to get me through quarantine while it was free month on PSN for ARR. Within a couple of weeks bought the expansion bundle and am closing in on finishing Heavensward. Fantastic story and met a great group of people to help me learn the mechanics. This channel definitely helped with easing my mind of jumping into a tank role too. Keep up the great content!

    This video is a cold shower of truth that i really needed. I have paused the game since i finished raiding and doing what i wanted to do and i found myself not knowing what to do without FFXIV and you made me realize that it's important to not stress myself out over a game! Tyvm

    I love this. I started a little over a month ago and just cant believe how many different things to do. And then i continue with msq and a whole nother mechanic to the game pop ups. I remember something as simple as the gold saucer took up like 3 straight days of my time just being there all day (litterally all day all i did was gold saucer stuff). Then i just up and start/work on another thing. I just love that if i do feel repetetiveness at all and start feeling drained theres so much content that i havnt even discovered yet. Iv watched streams and fb videos on stuff im like wtf is that. Dungeons are way different than the dungeons ive played.

    This is an incredible video! Every MMO player should watch this. Play a game, enjoy it, don't make yourself no life something you don't like because you feel like you have to.

    This really helped me a lot. Thank you and thank you Yoshi. I do feel bad sometimes when I haven't been on the game in a while because it is my favorite game. Just like the person below said, he is the one who will cut you off if he feels you are out of control. I like that.

    There’s so many things I love doing in this game. I’m currently trying to get my last 3 classes to level 80. I never feel burnt out and if I don’t feel like running content I can enjoy the scenery with my friends and take pictures etc

    When this whole pandemic hit I got back into wow because I missed having a job to do, wow is like work, but that was only good for so long and now here I am, having a blast bumbling around in ffxiv and it hasn’t felt like work yet!

    Thanks for sharing this video - it really spoke to me. I've been playing lots of looter shooters, but your compare/contrast convinced me to buy and try FFXIV. thank you.

    This was such an amazing video and I really see myself in it. I have been playing WoW since Cataclysm and have swapped to FFXIV 4-5 months ago due to the unsatisfaction of the "carrot on a stick" mentality in the game and not being able to have attainable goals (BiS gear mostly), there is always that little piece of gear that is 0.2% better but damn I gotta have it. WoW started to feel like work and not like a game I log on to play and have fun with friends. I just recently hit 80 on my first job, and I am a couple of quests away from finishing the 5.2 MSQ quests. I have around 15 days of playtime atm and during my entire journey thus far (except for waiting in ques for dungeons) I havent felt bored, I loved every minute of it. I can't wait to start exploring my favorite part of an MMO which is the hardest PvE content the game can throw at me (so Savage and Extreme raids I believe). I can dabble in multiple things in the game without feeling burdened by having to do "mandatory grinds".
    Shadowlands has to do something revolutionary to get me back full time. Yoshi got me in his grasp and he aint lettin go. :D

    Coming from wow and seeing Yoshi p's comment blew my mind.... I have recently hit 80 on my first class and cleared normal Eden's verse. now that I have good gear without doing savage i'm taking the time to go back and do all the unlock quests I missed. It's definitely fun but I imagine I'll only be loggin on for a few hours a day instead of the 6-8 I was playing while leveling up. looking forward to the new patch
