Anyone who's watched BB before this understands those high up in the Cartel business have so much money, that they can't spend it all(both from excess and legally). That's what makes Gus's chicken operation so brilliant. It allows a lot of that cash to be laundered and at the same time, as bases for distributing drugs/other products. Money is simply a tool for a more important thing the cartel desires: Power.
I love seeing the earliest version of Saul. He is trying everything in his power not to work with these *very* illegal business, coming up with a value that sounds absurdly large for him, $7925. Four years down the line, we see the more experienced and cold-hearted Saul doing the opposite, charging $80k from Walt and Jesse just to keep Badger from being killed, which was his original intention.
I love how Lalo is still a man of honor. When Jimmy initially turns it down, Lalo stands up, it's a subtle way of using his position to slightly intimidate Jimmy into persuasion, but he alleviates that tension immediately with his charisma, by opening his arms palms out and smiling and positively reinforcing Jimmy's talent. It's a nice little mind trick of playing on Jimmy's ego. But then when Jimmy starts talking price, Lalo sits back down and goes more on the attentive side, another way of alleviating the tension, implying that he's listening and open to negotiation. I love that they wrote him more as a calculating manipulator rather than just relying on intimidation.

Tony Dalton does so good as Lalo. The “For your trouble, let’s make it 8” is like a foil to Saul. He’s the sweet talker of the cartel, and gives Jimmy a bit of security in the way he addresses him there. The acknowledgment that Jimmy is intimidated and a “you’ve got a friend in me” tone. I love how similar Jimmy & Lalo are, both respectively charming, funny, upbeat guys, lalo's just more chaotic, hands down my favourite characters in the series (alongside gus).
Hi. I’m Saul Goodman. Did you know that you have rights? The Constitution says you do. And so do I. I believe that until proven guilty, every man, woman, and child in this country is innocent. And that’s why I fight for you, Albuquerque! Better call Saul!
It’s scary because you know the friendly demeanor is just a facade and that he will gouge out your eye with a spoon and not think twice about it. Tuco, and to a lesser extent, the twins will kill you, but at least theyre predictable. You can easily tell that Lalo is the smartest and most charismatic of the bunch, which makes him more dangerous.
What strikes me is that Nacho is the one who insists on dragging Jimmy into this. It's not enough that he's the one who recommended him to Lalo, he has to be the one that shoots down an excuse for him to get out
3:48 I just love Lalo's face here, right after he was seriously ready to negotiate the 'expensive' fees of Jimmy and he drops the not even 8000$ on him, he's like "..wait, really?"
I like how Lalo is one of the very few people, in both series, to actually laugh at Saul's jokes. Even though Lalo considers him to be the equivalent of a cockroach due to his cowardice, since they're both deceptive charmers, I think a part of him recognised a kindred spirit.
You know this guy is colder than Tuco when Saul asks "how's your abuelita?" And Lalo just ignores the question and gets right to whatever agenda he has. God I wish he would have been in BB.
The actress for Abuelita died around the time of season 3. We could assume that she was canonically dead by that time as well. Lalo clearly understood that Saul was trying to deflect from the actual matter, but was probably a little sorrowful knowing that the only person who could calm Tuco down was dead. He isn’t a psychopath, he’s shown emotion plenty of times in the series
I think Lalo’s face was priceless when he repeated $7,925😂. For your trouble, lets make it 8 (out of the cash I carry around with me, in my pocket😂). BTW, later on, I am prepared to fork over $7 million dollar in cash as bail money🤣🤣
Lalo is aware of how little knowledge Saul has of the wealth of his drug business and uses it to get his own way in every scenario. No price is off limits because he knows saul will not be even close to approaching their budget limit
The cartel makes billions a year. Eladio has ruled for a long time and the Salamancas were captains and lieutenants by his side. It's not impossible for them to have hundreds of millions at this point.
I know that at this point Jimmy is still supposed to be naive to who he is dealing with but I still found it surprising that he didn’t throw out an actual absurdly high fee to take on this job
He thinks he did. He still hasn't fully grasped that the criminal world moves millions like it's nothing since he only deals with small time offenders. That's why he says it slow and pushes to 7900. If they had raised an eyebrow he'd have backed down. The fact that he still charged them after being basically kidnapped is already an achievement
he was too scared of maybe disrespecting them to ask for more lol he thought they were gonna f him up or smt. Later when he saw 7 mil for Lalo is nothing he charged way more
It's amazing how everything about how Jimmy became Saul ties back to the first episode. Lalo and Natcho knew Jimmy because of the events of the first episode. And if not for Lalo Saul wouldn't have got the clients he got.
It’s pretty incredible how this scene is both extremely funny and very dark, considering that jimmy has essentially signed a deal with the devil (especially knowing what comes later)
I legitimately won’t be upset at the pace of this upcoming season, they’ll know what will need to be told quickly and what will need to be told slowly.
Breaking bad season 5 felt more rushed. This one seems like it has a logical and well composed ending. The conflicts to be resolved are as follows. Nachos betrayal Gene's future Saul and Kim's relationship Gus' schemes against the cartel They'll probably finish the better call saul arc first and then conclude the gene arc in the second half
@@lunch77 they wrote themselves into a corner with that machine gun. Season 5 was 16 episodes and it was a completely new arc. New antagonists, a new business model. Plus the second half of season 5 was completely luck based. Hank was about to tell raimi who heisenberg was before he heard about jesse in lock up. Walt was just a minute too late to his house as jesse and hank left. Walt told jack and his crew not to come but never explained that the cops arrived. Stuff like that made season 5 of breaking bad feel fake. I know walt always thrived on his luck but the chance factor in season 5 wasnt realistic. and a whole $75 lol. Just under a 1% tip on a number that Jimmy thought would scare them away. But now he realizes these aren't street thugs.
The look on Jimmys face when Lalo says “maybe later” gets me every time.
I love how similar Jimmy & Lalo are, both respectively charming, funny, upbeat guys, lalo's just more chaotic, hands down my favourite characters in the series (alongside gus).
best part about this show... every character is good. i cant even pick one lol
Jimmy is not charismatic, Saul is
@@ethandew1768 jimmy has always been charismatic. thats part of why chuck was jealous
The way Tony delivers the "you're the guy for this" line is so perfect 😂 I love it
Yeah, he is so encouraging lol
0:14 hahaha. Just look at Lalo's face when Saul says "family resemblance"
Hi. I’m Saul Goodman. Did you know that you have rights? The Constitution says you do. And so do I. I believe that until proven guilty, every man, woman, and child in this country is innocent. And that’s why I fight for you, Albuquerque! Better call Saul!
Goddamn, Lalo . . . .I don't think I've ever seen a villain that's so scary without actually doing anything
He did a few things tho
I believe he has done a lot of terrible and probably difficult things so his "fame" ahead of him. In his circle.
02:46 Imagine how much trust Lalo had in Nacho, he even listen to the guy... thats heartbreaking...
What strikes me is that Nacho is the one who insists on dragging Jimmy into this. It's not enough that he's the one who recommended him to Lalo, he has to be the one that shoots down an excuse for him to get out
if nacho havent worked with tuco or hector before i figured he would be enjoying working with lalo
I love Sauls reaction to Lalo saying "maybe later" like he knows he's joking but a part of him is actually worried about that
Watching Lalo on screen can make you almost want to work for him too.
Insane charisma.
3:48 I just love Lalo's face here, right after he was seriously ready to negotiate the 'expensive' fees of Jimmy and he drops the not even 8000$ on him, he's like "..wait, really?"
“The Tuco I know would have skinned them alive”… he really knows Tuco well. That was the first thing Tuco said he was going to do.
Lalo is such a amazing character
was...
I like how Lalo is one of the very few people, in both series, to actually laugh at Saul's jokes. Even though Lalo considers him to be the equivalent of a cockroach due to his cowardice, since they're both deceptive charmers, I think a part of him recognised a kindred spirit.
I was waiting for them to upload this scene - its so great. Saul and Lalo's interactions are always great!
I love that before Saul is finished with his first sentence, Lalo already knows everything about Saul’s character. He has incredible perception.
Jimmy’s charm could work on mast people like Tuco but Lalo nope
You know this guy is colder than Tuco when Saul asks "how's your abuelita?" And Lalo just ignores the question and gets right to whatever agenda he has. God I wish he would have been in BB.
I think he ignores it bvoz abuelita is dead, he doesn't wanna talk about it
Lalo saves his Salamanca craziness for special occasions.
@@juanjoyaborja.3054 we could assume but I'm not gonna lol either way sucks she died, RIP.
I think Lalo’s face was priceless when he repeated $7,925😂. For your trouble, lets make it 8 (out of the cash I carry around with me, in my pocket😂). BTW, later on, I am prepared to fork over $7 million dollar in cash as bail money🤣🤣
Considering that money pile which Marco and Leonel took money from, he probably would have anticipated a much higher bail.
Lalo is aware of how little knowledge Saul has of the wealth of his drug business and uses it to get his own way in every scenario. No price is off limits because he knows saul will not be even close to approaching their budget limit
“7 million… I can do that”
The cartel makes billions a year.
He was scared shitless hahaha
He thinks he did. He still hasn't fully grasped that the criminal world moves millions like it's nothing since he only deals with small time offenders.
That's why he says it slow and pushes to 7900. If they had raised an eyebrow he'd have backed down. The fact that he still charged them after being basically kidnapped is already an achievement
he was too scared of maybe disrespecting them to ask for more lol he thought they were gonna f him up or smt. Later when he saw 7 mil for Lalo is nothing he charged way more
This is over a decade ago when even 8 grand was more than it is today
He wanted that job
It's amazing how everything about how Jimmy became Saul ties back to the first episode. Lalo and Natcho knew Jimmy because of the events of the first episode. And if not for Lalo Saul wouldn't have got the clients he got.
If only Betsy Kettleman would have signed that document…
03:35 Saul: Around seven million.
Lalo: Ok, I can do that. But you have to pick them up.
It’s pretty incredible how this scene is both extremely funny and very dark, considering that jimmy has essentially signed a deal with the devil (especially knowing what comes later)
Lalo is one of the greatest characters ever written and acted on tv. Perfect casting and amazing dialogue.
Lalo is one of the most charismatic characters ever.
It seems like the show has a lot of story left to tell and just one remaining season, can expect a goated conclusion for an all time great show.
I legitimately won’t be upset at the pace of this upcoming season, they’ll know what will need to be told quickly and what will need to be told slowly.
Breaking bad season 5 felt more rushed. This one seems like it has a logical and well composed ending.
The conflicts to be resolved are as follows.
Nachos betrayal
Gene's future
Saul and Kim's relationship
Gus' schemes against the cartel
They'll probably finish the better call saul arc first and then conclude the gene arc in the second half
@@JESUSLIVESAMEN Controversial opinion Season 5 was rushed but I respect it fully. I do believe Season 6 of Better Call Saul will be superior.
When marie is the voice of reason, you know the writers took a wrong turn.
@@JESUSLIVESAMEN I don’t *necessarily* agree the Machine Gun opening to the season was bad move, I love it, but trust me. I respect your opinion a lot. I love unique opinions about my favorite shows.
Lalo es el mejor! alguien más tiene esa sensación de que no quiere que ese personaje termine mal, es que simplemente es el mejor villano.
Howards brain will explode when he finds out what Jimmys really up to
@@richardlyman2961 💀💀
@@richardlyman2961 yeah, that’s the joke.
I love how at 0.46 Lalo walks to the chair, but does not take the direct path. Indeat he takes a few steps in Saul's direction, probably to intimidate him or just see how he reacts and Saul doesn't back down.
I am so pumped for the 6th season
Lalo is a boss! Love that character so charismatic and evil at the same time.
The "maybe later" line and Saul snappin' out of it is legendary
Lalo is so good at being bad. So many unanswered questions and loose ends to wrap up. Can't wait for season 6!
netflix has s6 ep1 April 18th, 2022.
@@lapacesiaconvoi Thanks.
Jejeje
This show goes to another level when Lalo enters the picture
How relieved Saul is, when Lalo tells him they have a legal problem 😂 I love the humor in BCS and BB
1:33 - Saul: “A legal problem? 🙏 For a minute there I thought I would be swallowing condoms full of heroine!”
Lalo: 🤣🤣 Maybe later...
Saul: 😳😳👀👀👀 DOH!!!!
I think Lalo is one of the best villains ever seen on screen. He out-villained all the other Salamanca's. Incredible work by actor Tony Dalton.
Tony Dalton is Jack Nicholson level talent
0:26 until he turns around.
That shot was SOOOOO GOOD
The transition from his face in the mirror all lit up and his cheerful expression to his actual face in the dark with a more serious expression really hit me like a truck.
I will admit I haven't watched BCS but just by watching this scene I feel like I went through a whole introduction of Lalo just from those few seconds. Just goes to show what good writing, directing, and acting can do for a show.
Definitely going to watch BCS 👍👍
well you are right with assumption abt Lalo. He is cheerful and joking all the time but he can get serious and slice ur throat in 5 seconds lol. Even when he smiles his eyes dont they are dead and empty
You won't regret it but if you've watched breaking bad just know their completely different
i think abuelita died
So...did you watch it?
@@lukeskywalker9016 might have been his way of saying "ya, cute, let's get to the point"
"They wheeled out of there..."
Jimmy downplaying his own achievement. He saw where this was going before it even started.
Nah he was just correcting him
I know everybody wants a Gus origin spinoff. I personally would prefer one about Lalo.
Same 👌🏻😊
Basically _"NARCOS: México con Eduardo Salamanca."_
If they did a lalo prequel then hector (and maybe Gus) would be the only characters to be significant members in all 3 casts, but imagine making the actor for hector play himself like 40 years younger than he actually is
Love how they already had so many amazing actors playing great characters and then Tony Dalton joins the cast.
0:47 the sound in the background and the way the light falls on Lalo is reminiscent of Gus when he defeats Lalo. The hidden foreboding.
2:18 If that was Tuco, it was have been "Stop Helping!"
Lalo in his charm can do "Money upfront" 🥰🥰🥰 4:15
Lol, it's not for Jimmy's trouble. It's for Lalo's convenience. Man doesn't want to make change.
"I can see the family resemblance."
*"He got a temper, huh?"*
"I hadn't noticed."
This is the funniest Saul has been while trying to not be funny.
i always thought that the "i hadn't noticed" actually meant that he didnt know he was Tuco cousin.
I don't think they look alike, they don't even look the same ethnicity (Lalo looks more or less white)
@@helvete_ingres4717 that's why it was funny when he said it
@@helvete_ingres4717 (looks more or less white) lmao
@@trevorclinton5692 ? looks like a spanish dude, as opposed to tuco who looks completely mestizo
Lalo - What an awesome character. One of the nicest scary guys or scariest nice guys ever.
Man the cast wasn't kidding about how good Tony Dalton was as Lalo
0:29 "I hadn't noticed" .. ya me too.. he seemed like a lovely guy.. helping the Avengers and stuff
"You know he- he has a huge heart and a, a serious passion for .. Justice"
Lalo: "Yeah okay 😂"
"How expensive?"
"$7925"
"Hold a sec, let me check under the couch."
And Lalo just rounds it up to 8k for all the hassle. Gotta love Lalo!
"I hadn't noticed"
When asked about Tuco's temperament is probably the biggest lie Saul's told in his entire life and that's saying something
You know the tension is super high in this scene, when u can hear every bit of noise from the chair and see Saul being that nervous. Just brilliant!
The look in Jimmy's face when Lalo says "Maybe later" made me nearly cry with laughter
Love how at the "Maybe later..." joke, Lalo laughs but Jimmy just grimaces like it's a threat
As much as I like BB, I must say that BCS is slightly better to me. More twists and turns, cat and mouse and stupendous acting all around.
Definitely have to agree there!
Well, BCS has some constraints on how the series ends up... who lives... and who is missing.
@@guybyars8181 You are right and part of my point. Somehow, the writers did that brilliantly - at least in my opinion. However, I had Kim wrong in that I thought she was doomed.
1:40 - Maybe later 😂😂😂
1:47 the smooth change in expression.. Bob the goat
When Lalo stands up, stares at you and says "You're the guy for this", you know you're perfect for the job.
Lalo is one of the reasons why i am so excited about season 6 just love his expressions 💥💥
