For me this was the greatest line up The Cure had. The introduction of Porl and Boris had brought a bit of polish, but the original rawness of Robert, Lol and Simon is still very much in evidence. A real shame Lol's demons got the better of him. I watched a interview of him promoting his book on American TV. He came across as a really intelligent and interesting man who now bares no grudges and has a healthy relationship with Robert and the rest of 'The Cure family.' He is totally accepting of the fact he had to leave the band and states if he had stayed he'd have probably died. He's obviously not doing badly from the time he spent in the Cure as he lives comfortably in LA and has put his kids through college. 😊
Alan Wilder said something similar when he left Depeche Mode: he wasn't sure he'd survive the next album/tour. It was great to see Lol with the rest of the group at their Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame induction - it felt like a family reunion.
Hi...He Played A Set/Gig over here in Galway City Ireland about 3yrs ago, before the Covid Pandemic in Monroes Live Venue...He Looked/Played So Relaxed & Chatted afterwards with Fans & Gave Musical Instruction to Fans who asked his advice...It was A Great Night
100% agree, but personally when Boris left maybe it was me I don’t know but there was something missing even though I was a fan a since 81 a few years before he joined, love this gig to this day had 2 originals & 2 copies wore them out over the years was over the moon when it was finally on UA-cam😁👍
I still remember going to see this when it first came out in 1987. I was 18 years old and The CURE music was all I thought about and listened to for a long time.
@@ikonstancio Orange is their best show, consider all the factors: Sound, time, tour, line up and Tim Pope. You can say what you like more but you cannot deny the facts.
J’y étais comme j’étais à Montpellier mardi dernier!!mais Orange 86 , Montpellier 87, Arles 89 et Paris 92 sont mes préférés parmi les 17 concerts des CURE auxquels j’ai assisté.
Me too. They were the powerhouse that brought cure to the superstar status. The early cure were great but they had too much influence from joy division and new order. Only when Boris joined, the cure really had their own unique voice. But the caterpillar was on the cusp of that so we basically can split cure into three distinct era. The trio dark music with lol tolhurst keeping that simple metronome and Robert laying very minimalistic guitar. Then the one off psychedelic album with influences from siousie and the banshees, then the heavy guitar centric music from 85 to 95, which was the golden era of the cure. Then it sort of went down hill though they manage to put out some good stuff still
Tim Pope has upgraded it from the original film and shown it to acclaim, but DVD sales continue to decline, and heaven for something takes a few pennies out of their heavily lined pockets.
15:39 this is the reason The Cure was the best band in the world in that time. Is a real artistic performance and everyone are excelent musicians. Greetings from Chile.

Karen that it a fascinating comment I have always felt this band originated from a earlier period the sound the look different to the rest of them the opening to a Forest proves it.
@@haydenwittig8877 , I often have that sense when I watch The Cure or listen to them. Especially Robert Smith. He is so unusual and rare. The voice, his looks, the lyrics. Tres chicos imaginarios. Excelente, el clima, el comienzo caótico en solitario de Robert, el contraste de luces entre Robert y Boris, y también de tiempos, el sólo, una joya.

I highly recommend everyone reads Lol’s book, cured. It’s a touching read. I sort of feel bad seeing him be demoted here and Boris (albeit a better drummer) playing his parts.
He demoted himself according to RS when he spent three days in studio failing to learn the drumbeat for Let's go to bed. I won't discount his playing behind the drum kit on the first four albums because he was a human metronome and the simplicity of his playing complimented the early Cure sound well, but it's clear that he was outclassed quickly by the ongoing growth and abilities of the other band members.
David Lochary's Mustache I think this is part of the truth, he was also struggling with a serious alcohol problem which put him at odds with Robert and Simon. At the end of the day he didn’t have the musicianship to go in the direction the cure were headed following the head on the door and he was phased out for both personal and professional reasons. I just feel bad because I relate so much to what Lol was going through at the time. We even share the same birthday.
