    Thank you Melodi, Ryan & Opal. Your hard work is really paying off since you first arrived and pitched your tent! Amazing! What a beautiful place. It was so delightful to see Opal who's the happiest girl to be w/you, every step of the way!
    I love your flag! Thank you to Lily Bird (love the name) for designing your first flag that paints a perfect picture of your beautiful island homestead. I wish you continued success. I love you Opal, darling girl! 🏝🐕👫💓

    ❤❤Hello friends!! Love it when you are on because I feel like I have company. I love your potting table. Also that it is made from a remnant of the old cabin. Melodi, I like your harvest too. Not sure what it is….new to me…..but it was lovely. I realize this is a year old or close but I want to tell you something my Mama told me when we were planting flowers 🌺 or other plants. If you already know this, which you probably do, don’t think I’m being bossy and forgive me. When you pull the dirt up around the plant 🌱 and water it pour the water in very slowly so the soil will absorb the water and get to the root rather than run off the top of the soil. So this is what we did and each evening when we watered her pretty glowers we watered them slowly. And she taught us to water them in the early morning or after the sun went down so the sun wouldn’t dry up the water before it soaked into the ground. She always planted red and white Impatiens on her front porch in rectangular flower pots.
    I am envious of your natural lighting but I totally understand the glare of the sunshine. ☀️ I have to deal with that on a much smaller scale. I may have asked you this before but how did you all obtain Opal and how did you decide on her name? Names interest me. We had a bit of snow last night….i hate snow….and through the night it was oh so very cold! I have diabetic neuropathy and the bones in my old arthritic feet and toes (have rheumatoid arthritis) get so cold at times it causes pretty hard pain. I don’t have a Ryan so an electric blanket is my best friend when I am so cold. Going to order one tomorrow. Stay warm and healthy!! There’s so much respiratory sickness around here. My bro was sick over Christmas and had COVID with it. My niece, Lauren, had COVID at the beginning of the week. Prayers and positive thoughts headed your way….why? Because you two are just getting more special to me as time goes on. 🙏🏻💜

      @vikkibyington3066 I like the idea of 3 or 4 cans with hole in the bottom, to drain water hanging on the end, for tools handles, you could also clean fish on the table, use all skins bones for fertilizer for your plants, since your soil is clay, it needs amendments, any vegetation scraps, or a compost pile for scrap food and vegetation

    • @mywildholm
      @mywildholm  День тому +1

      Yes, the soil is a mixture of sand and clay with a thin layer of organics at the surface. Inches, really. Not the best for growing. Any soil amendments will be a good thing. -Ryan.

      @mywildholm my first garden, on crappy soil, I just bought bags of soil and opened up the top, holes in the bottom for drainage, just so something could grow, layers or cardboard, and flier advertizer newspapers, to keep the weeds out, it also amended to bad soil when it breaks down, coffee grounds, ash, banana peels, orange peels potato skins, all help bad soil

    That lake is gorgeous !!! The views are even more perfect because there’s nobody in sight lol so peaceful 💕 if you can put a metal loop on the rod on the bottom of the blinds on the top windows you could get a thin pole & put a hook on the top & just push the pole up & into the loop to pull the blinds down ! I do think I'd like the glad containers even better but it's so much nicer to have them all sealed up and organized. The site was such a mess for so long due to lack of space but that's changing... 😃 Thank you for watching!

      Uh oh @charlesstuart1119... you've made Isabel mad now! Lol, but really... you probably are not aware that Melodi has a titanium cage holding her lower spine together - she is not supposed to lift anything. Like ANYthing. She can do little things, but that is all. But you know what, this doesn't bother me at all... she is a true partner in every sense of the word and she really wishes she could participate in a more physical way. It makes me sad that she is sad about that. But we both have our roles: I build and she helps when she can, but I am very protective of her and I do not want her hurt. I am just thankful she can walk! Her role is to film and edit and believe me when I tell you, that is a BIG job. So really, if it wasn't for her, we would have simple tripod footage which is no where near as good as what she does with the camera. -Ryan

      The thing about the Saskatoons is that we can't always count on a bounty - the year before last we didn't get one saskatoon due to the early frost that killed the entire island of any rendering (and apparently surrounding areas from what we've heard). I wonder if there is a way we can somehow protect them with something at some point. Blueberries aren't as good as Saskatoons (in my opinion). We want lots of different varieties of berries though, so there will be many more coming aboard the island. We will be having our new contest for the 2025 design starting in a few weeks. Neat idea about adding it to the outro at some point... Thank you so much for watching! Have a great rest of your week!

It is only the two of us and in order to film, edit and post the quality that best represents this journey, we have to have a lapse or we just couldn't do it. This year is slightly delayed due to a family health incident which caused me to be away for over 3 months of the last year. Thank you @anonymous... you are correct. We are grateful that Melodi can even walk. A few years ago she had 4 spine surgeries - all in the same month! There was complication after complication. I can't even imagine what she went through... and she never complained. She ended up with a titanium cage screwed into her lower spine to hold it all together. She is a very very determined woman, principled and full of hard-core grit. So Wayne, I am sure you were not aware of that... and yours is not the first comment we have had on this topic. If Melodi had her way, she would be right in getting dirty and working the tools. But the sad reality is, she simply can't do it. It kills her to be sidelined like this and sometimes she just can't stand it and tries to help - and then pays for it later - big time. So it's just not worth the risk - know what I mean? I would much rather have her filming and keeping me company than in a wheel-chair. So we share this journey together our way... it works for us. Thank you for the comment. -Ryan
