- Meiringen Air Base, also known as the Unterbach Military Airfield, is a Swiss military airbase located near the hamlet of Unterbach and the town of Meiringen, in the canton of Bern. It is one of three main airbases of the Swiss Air Force.
I’ve captured some resident F/A-18 hornets taxiing, taking off and landing in and around the base. Included are some other aircraft using the base along with one content bovine resident.

We visited this in June 2023 as we stayed at Brienz down the road and had planes overhead our house every day for 11 days.....amazing !! Drove across the runway and saw them training up at Axalp. What a surprise bonus to our vacation !! ))
these planes are spotless , I love the minimalist Swiss style of markings and stencilling !

The Hornet startup is iconic. I live around 2 miles from Leeuwarden air base. And when we have hornets over on excercise i can hear them starting up from my house 😂 its my cue to get on the bike.

I'm from London, and in the early 1980s ,around 81/82 , i went to school in Switzerland in a beautiful village called Glion above Montreux right next to Lake Geneva . We used to see fighter jets go past us above the lake all the time . The lake and mountain backdrop made the view extra special. Do you know what type of jets they would have been ?

Yes there is a cave in the mountain for the jets.

F18 needs 1200 feet to take off 141knotts. The F35 does this in 510 feet.
