Best of AXALP 2023: F/A-18 Hornet Gun Firing Training, Sneak Pass, Patrouille Suisse, Pilatus PC-21!

- So happy to have finally managed to attend one of the greatest, if not the most spectacular, airshow in the world. This is a 3-days event during which the Swiss Air Force does some flight demonstrations, showing its ability in the alpine environment of Axalp, a district of the municipality of Brienz located at 1,535 meters above sea level in the beautiful Swiss Alps. The actual air show is held higher up, at around 2,200 meters above sea level, where three different view points allow spectators to watch the flight activities.
Among the various displays and demonstrations the most captivating one is for sure the live gun firing training of the FA-18 Hornet pilots, who can take advantage of different targets located on the mountains around to fire their 20mm Gatling guns.

What is that set of buzzing noises the jets were making? It reminded me of the sound of an A-10 gun strafing.
That's their 20mm cannons being fired.
@@peekaboo1575 Wow that's cool they actually did live firing at an air show. Blanks I assume.
@@superfisher4379 Aye, they do live firing but I don't think they are using blanks. If you look at some other videos covering AXALP you'll see that they put a target in one of the faces of the surrounding mountains, and you can see said target being hit. It's fairly neat.
@@peekaboo1575 Wow that's really amazing. I've seen them do bombing runs at Westover AFB but they're fake just for the show. Sitting on a mountain watching them fly by must be great.

Hey 19Bozzy92. I was wondering if a Lockheed C-130 Hercules was at the airshow. It would be astounding to see the Hercules aircraft flying through the Swiss Alps. 👍
No, at least this year there wasn’t. The primary purpose of Azalp is to showcase the swiss military with a guest or two only every couple of years.
