- Dukes of Hazzard fans can't help but notice the orange 1969 Dodge Charger and the teasing that Knight Rider gives Dukes here. While KITT may seem to prove itself the superior car in this clip, the Dukes of Hazzard lasted 7 seasons, while Knight Rider only lasted 4. So there! Nyah. (Original airdate, Jan 21, 1983.) Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard were one of my favourite TV shows from the 80's. The Dukes of Hazzard's first broadcast was in January 1979 and last was in February 1985. Knight Rider's first broadcast was in September 1982 and last in April 1986.
When Knight Rider was first broadcast in September 1982, The Dukes of Hazzard were airing their 5th season without Bo and Luke Duke for 19 episodes.
I still enjoy both shows and cars. Both vehicles used to get wrecked during the stunts, especially the landings of the jumps, depending how they landed, sometimes demolished the cars pretty bad. None of them were indestructible. The Charger did more spectacular jumps and was more abused than the Trans Am. They did wrecked less Trans Am's during the jumps because they sometimes used some special stunt cars with a rubber kind of body and some 1/8th scale '82 Camaro Z/28's from the 2nd season on, modified to look like the KITT car. The Dukes of Hazzard had the same treatment, I think during their 7th and last season, for some crazy dangerous jumps.
The Charger on this video that exploded was later replaced by a Dodge Monaco that was totally burned for the scene. These Monaco's also had a hard time during the filming of TV shows in the 1980's.

There's a non coincident car in the explosion. the car exploded is the Charger, but burning car is a 1978 Dodge Monaco

Also the same tire squeal thats used everytime he gets going. Like its in 1st gear and spins the tires, then quickly shifts to second(theres a small pause) and a little spin in 2nd gear

I wasn't sure what model it was, but definitely not a Dodge Challenger. After all, do they expect anyone to not notice that fact that the car they blew up was a 4 door sedan?

I don't get why they set fire to a chevy. Why not just continue to use the burnt out Dodge. Also 'Rocket Fire' for 'Turbo Boost'?
I saw the whole series, and this was the best turbo boost in all the episodes.
To me both are my favourites,and both are really great legendary cars.

These are great to watch, but they get a bit embarrassing too. Bonnie gets caught fiddling with KITT...again.. but finishes in time when Michael opens the door.
Then there is "KITT's Schematic Visuals" lol omg, but the best bit is the turbo boost upto 160 MPH which looks to be not going much faster than the red car. Glad I was easily fooled as a kid :)

You have to remember that Knight Rider in its first season was on Friday nights, the same night as The Dukes Of Hazzard. With this being the season of Coy and Vance on the Dukes and the ratings dropping, Glen Larson and his staff decided to have some "friendly fun" at their network rivals and make people forget the General Lee. To avoid copyrights, they didn't say the car's name, but the orange Charger and the moonshine were mentioned, even though the Dukes couldn't sell it.
Man those were some crazy schematic visuals!!!!!

My dad had a 1969 Dodge Charger, yellow with black vinyl top, white interior and a 318 engine with Crager rims sitting high in the back. I was very popular in school. YEEEEE HAAAAAWW!

Can someone tell me or help me out here what happened to the guys in the orange car when the car blew up was it the actors inside the car or was it stuntmen and if they got out how did they get out that quick before the car blew up ? or did they get set on fire too ?
When the car was moving on fire it would've been either pushed down a ramp or toed by wires, I doupt anyone was in it.
I've ordered Knight Rider in the Invitations catalogue, the whole serious of it, over 4400 minutes of watching

sometimes they roll in spare parts. There are 4 rocket motors under the car. One facing horizontally so that KITT will go faster, and 2 more in the front facing vertically to make it jump.

When us kids were watching Michael Knight fight off bad guys, they'd show a scene & it'd be a different actor. I'd be like, Hey, wait a min., that wasn't Michael Knight. LOL

well, both series were "rivals" in the 80's so that's just part of it, i love both series, I don't like all the fun making of the Dukes making them look like morons, that's bullshit, but i anyway enjoy both series a lot

I dont see the insult myself. Not Every orange Charger is the General Lee. I am interested in knowing how a 1969 Charger turns into a '74 Monaco after it explodes. In the last Knight Rider series, KITT was a Mustang that could transform into a F150 pick up and other vehicle profiles. Perhaps the orange Charger in this Knight Rider clip has a technological advancement that is even beyond KITT!
