Oh man, I was just thinking that. As a kid, I loved the jumps on DoH and Knight Rider. Now I can't help but think about how many awesome cars were destroyed to do them.
if you have never seen a general lee jump in person, I can tell you, the sound of it landing is the sound of death, like a fatal car crash, it is un nerving, but a thrill to see. the stunt men, even tho in full roll cages, etc,....risked their lives to give us these jumps.

I love how the show made it look like the '69 General Lee Charger shrugged off every jump, especially when hearing the narrator, but almost every single one are brutal, car-destroying lands in reality. They're epic, but painful to watch. The show killed 325 old Chargers. :'(
We're all still Alive and so is the General Lee. If ya look listen to John Schnieder there were 4 new ones built by fan folk the last 4 years by various individuals. I believe John has 2 of his own. For anyone interested there had been a You Tube of one of his being built but I think due to the political dumb shit the video was pulled. He has had at the least 2 built with his own creators and money... I saw one of his General Lee's on display at a Cabela's sporting goods store and possibly the same car in Arlington Texas a few years ago.
As a 9-13 year old kid watching this show religiously, I had great faith that they only used one car for that show. Then “adulting” happened and a sad truth was revealed. Kudos to the stunt teams to bring us such thrills.
When I was a child watching this show I always used to thank God that there was Always a construction crew in the middle of nowhere with the perfect mound of dirt for the Duke boys to make their getaways.
Absolutely nuts to watch them back to back to back like this… some of those jumps are truly magnificent! Makes my heart smile; thanks men for what you did for us…

I always marveled at the destruction of so many vintage cars on this show and the ability for them to find replacements years after the cars were out of production yet only to destroy them in the end. I had a chance to visit the Warner Brothers lot when the show was still in production and it was amazing to see car carriers full of General Lees and Hazard police cars.
The jump-vest that’s now a standard in car jump stunts was invented on this show. Can’t imagine how many spines have been saved because of the cowboys they had working on this show.
I was about 12 when the Dukes were on. I loved that shit, had a bicycle named it General and would jump anything, stupid, broken bones, stitches,concussions, what a childhood.
I worked on the 2nd unit stunt teem with Paul Baxley and Allen Waitt for 3 years as Camera Assistant & Operator . Its fun to see these jumps again we had a great time with a wonderful group of people . One morning at Lake Shurwood we saw a small plane at 12,000 feet, a stuntman was skydiving to work he landed with a beer in his hand, true story. There will NEVER be another Show Like it. I worked for 40 yers in the TV business but never another show like that. And I worked on ALL the stunt shows in the Late 70s & 80s. Those were the days.
Those Chargers were magic .. stunt coordinator in an interview was asked what made that car fly like that, . His response .. " it was pure horsepower " .. great car for the purpose intended ...

I have jumped a few cars like this before and made high ramps so I could do so when I was a teenager. The landings hurt!! And the car has often been totaled. I was a crazy teenager and thought it would be fun. I would buy crappy cars for very cheap and see how far I could make them fly. This all ended when I broke my back, a leg, arm, and a few ribs at 19 years old. I'm not gonna try to do that ever again, lol. All this metal and pain when the weather changes is just a reminder of how stupid I was, lol.
Rumor has it that he was 10 inches shorter in height by the end of the series. Those landings must have hurt. Bet he knows a good chiropractor. I should get his number...
I read somewhere that not every jump had a driver. The car was launched by other means. I think toward the end of the show, they had resorted to miniatures. I remember even as kid some of the jumps looked pretty wonkie.
4:42 and 10:19 are my favorites... Same jump location, different episodes. Fun Fact: They stiffened the front suspension and put cement in the trunk to get the cars to fly the way they do. Most of the jump ramps were short and steep so they could be hidden better, which tended to cause the rear to bounce up if it wasn't deadened.

So beautiful seeing this show in crystal clear HD. It’s a shame amazon didn’t renew their license, I’m hoping Netflix or Hulu will pick it up. Netflix already has both 2000s movies.
I read they demolished around 300 chargers during the filming of all episodes. Obviously every car that was jumped was likely totaled. On impact, you can see frame failure, suspension failure, and most body panels warped or destroyed.
John Schneider (Bo Duke), on his own UA-cam channel said that the car was almost always totalled, but there were a few exceptions of cars landing without taking significant damage. Also, just a little correction; the 69 Dodge Charger didn't have a frame. It was unibody.
You know what would make a great DVD?? A DVD all about every jump the General did but should include ALL camera footage, and include if there were any behind the scenes before and after stuff, interviews with the stunt drivers, how the jump was to be set up and especially if anything went wrong!
Funny add in my local paper a few years ago. A guy placed a classified add selling his ‘69 Charger...”Orange, 72,000 miles, nearly perfect condition...not used in filming The Dukes of Hazzard”. Only time a car is more valued for NOT being a tv show prop!

Watching the various jumps and seeing the damage to the various Geral Lee's reminds me of all the chair shots I saw WWE Wrestler Mankind/Cactus Jack/Mick Foley take. As much as it was entertaining to watch then, it's downright painful to watch now. So many destroyed cars...love the stunts, but so many destroyed cars...
I wish they would show the unedited version of these jumps sometime so it shows the car folding into a pancake when they land lol. It's amazing how naive I was as a child thinking that was real.awesome video though thank you I didn't realize they jumped that thing so many times They must have totaled a hundred cars

Nice to see these jumps in such high quality. :) Although I deeply apologize, but I must do my "Duke/General Lee perfectionist critic" as you put it, because, despite your being certain there are none, quite a few of these jumps ARE duplicates. They don't just look similar, they really are the same. One example, the jump at 0:39 had its footage reused at 3:58. I didn't wanna mention the duplicates, but when I read your statement in the description, I'm sorry, I felt the need to. Again, despite this, great video.

Yeah, did the best I could not to; but there probably are some partial dups as you mentioned. They recorded in the same areas so often that it is pretty hard to tell on a lot of the shots. Thanks for the input and kind words too :-)

In the early 90s somebody said about Knight Rider they use a new car after each stunt, because the cars are finished. I did not want to believe that.

You can tell the one at 0:56 didn't land right, landed partially on its side. Which is probably the reason for the quick jump cut made in editing.

Yes that suspension harness has minimised the risk of injuring the back. Also used later on for The A Team van jumps

If You look closely at the end of the jump you can see the car all smashed up
