Yes, an awful choice assuming they have some killers on the way. The drumming is so drum & bass I wish it had more electronic elements. Chorus was weak and forgettable. No screams, no proper breakdown. Production and mix is incredibly nice on the ears but overall it felt like one of those rushed tracks to please labels.
Hope the songs of the new future album dont follow on this songs footsteps, it was not my cup of tea personally. Much prefer spiritbox from their debut EP and the album eternal blue
@@fadence I think the chorus was super catchy, nice harmonies on vocals contrasting with the guitar chords, this track didn't need scream I think it would have been cringe, straight energy during the whole song. And I don't think this track is actually "label friendly" because of the "odd' chorus. Also the main riff and its motif is everything, the thing we hear right in the beginning is the motif and I love it which reminds me of Erra Electric twilight somehow
I’m actually shocked to see that people don’t really like this…I personally thinks it’s a great choice of single, easily accessible for new fans, a great entry to the band while also being an absolute bouncy banger, if this was a Northlane track on alien I don’t think anyone would mind lmao
I think it’s too basic. A single should be controversial, then the album should have deep cuts that sound more akin to the band’s old stuff (imo). Also, compared to rotoscope it felt like a de-evolution sound wise
People don't understand some bands don't fit in one box.... just want their ears tickled with what they like and anything that varies "sucks". It's a great song!
Always love your honesty bro. With a band like Spiritbox that has a die hard fan base (I’m part of it too) it’s refreshing for people to actually speak their truth.
Thanks bro! Appreciate ya💜 all just opinions at the end of the day - great band though, this changes nothing for them. Just going to be interesting to see how the next album pans out
😂😂😂 if you haven’t noticed my thumbail game has gotten very lazy loool I changed my camera settings and I need to take more obnoxious thumbail face pics with it so I don’t have to keep reusing old ones😂😂
Hard disagree. I’ve been a fan of Spiritbox for a while, and it really feels like they’re finally coming into their own now with their sound. The heavier aspects of Eternal Blue were some of the most unmemorable moments of that record to me, so hearing them really focus on the more melodic and ethereal elements is refreshing and a welcome change of pace, especially in a genre where everything tends to sound more or less the same. Also, I may be biased since I’ve been listening to a lot of shoegaze lately, but the massive wall of sound in the mix was an absolute standout. Can’t wait to hear what’s next
Great radio friendly song to get more accessible. I love their poppy/ electronic side just as much as their heavy metalcore side. One of the best in the scene rn.
Think about how little Andrew Wells was utilized on Dance Gavin Dance's latest album. I'm expecting something similar from Spiritbox; they might let Gilbert sing on some tracks but not change their sound in a big way (could be wrong tho!).
Spiritbox's catalog is so good, so freaking good, that despite this not being a terrible song, it is by far their most boring song ever. Flat out. Generic. Bland. Boring. No repeat value. I still love them and know they have a lot more to offer and believe they will. I think they're in a place (transition) where they're trying to find their sound in this new chapter (staying true to their identity but breaking into the mainstream/pop circles). All I hope is that the record execs and suits don't ruin them because everything through Eternal Blue is still their best work.... we'll see where they go...
This song reminds me of 4D by Northlane, love to hear anything similar to it. Even though it sounds really good, replay value is not as big for me personally. Probably you need to have a special mood or it might be actually good for training or jogging or maybe even during a road trip. Overall this song feels like interlude for some reason and there's nothing really special about it, but the clean vocals over brutal instrumental - is what i always loved and this is the biggest plus of this single, also the melodic breakdown seems nice.
@@DrewFortune97 Yes i agree, i just don't wanna listen to it anymore because it was too boring for me after several listens, unlike 4D with Godly vocals and electronic breakdown
I feel like this song's been a grower for me. It's definitely a more commercial/accessible track, but I feel like it doesn't need to be anything else. The variety is one of my favourite things about Spiritbox - you could get a track like Holy Roller, or a track like The Summit; two very different vibes, but both very cool in their own ways. I like it, and it's a vibe I can get on board with, but I can understand if it's not everyone's thing.
That song needs some run-throughs...first I was not impressed, but now it's playing in infinity loop...the poorest choice was not to make a proper video for that...
Hmmm, maybe so. But I’ve been absolutely raving about so much music if you look at the past 20 or so videos I’ve done it’s been like 90% positive bro😂🙌🏻
I feel like this song would appeal more to the less intense of metal fans. Obviously someone who digs into their earlier discography will find this a stark contrast, but I can see the appeal as a single to capture some more fans.
Spiritbox is in the experimenting process on how much ground they can conquer. Eternal Blue is masterpiece. Period. The EP Rotoscope is great. But this, "The Void" is only a single. And all the metal all they want is hear screaming and growling is crying "This is a trash.", "This is a nah", etc. Metalheads, this single "The Void" is only a breath to them and to us. So you will appreciate them more when they released another album. The song is vibing and upbeat. Still rockin' and banger. I like it and I love it. 🤘🔥
I think all this song needed was some kind of big moment and it would have been great. Soaring vocal or catchy hook... something. There wasn't much I could point to that I didn't like, but nothing that gets me excited.
Bro if the whole album is D&B metal I’ll force my brain to like it even if it’s not as good as Eternal Blue, good d&b w/ vocals is soooooo forgotten man😢
I'm really digging their new song Jaded I find it has alot more to offer compared to this song. I think The Void was a good choice to release as a first single to warm things up but Jaded is starting to get things cooking and melody in the chorus and the guitar riffs are catchy as hell. Makes me curious to to see if they drop a 3rd & 4th single what direction they are going to go in. Would like to hear some cleans from the bass player Josh cause he had a great voice in AILD and see what he can bring to the table! \m/
I absolutely love this track! The guitar work is amazing! Im a huge fan of that dotted eighth delay. And drum mix is killer! I can see how the chorus kan seem a bit unmemorable with not many tones. 2:35 Is the sweet spot 🤤
It’s a catchy rock track with some nice full production in places. Enjoyable enough but pretty unremarkable and definitely not something I would tell anyone they absolutely need to check out.
@@DrewFortune97 Yeah even the best bands of all time have some songs that just kind of falls under really. Still a good song and i'm not against the direction they are going in or seem to be going in with rotoscope. I'd say it would of been good on an album for sure, prolly not as a single though. I'm still going to be listening to it for a while on repeat lol.
I must be a big Spiritbox fan, cos I liked the new song. But yeah, it doesn't have the IT factor of earlier songs like Circle With Me and Perennial, so I can see why someone may not dig it.
It's just so simple. I want them to get back to the original sound. More progressive and complex songs. The Mara Effect is still my favorite. This has good energy, but it comes and goes.
Hard agree. Even after watching the video I can't remember the song. Nothing against Spiritbox either as I do love some songs by them but this one... yea... I still look forward to see what they do though
Yeah I have to agree despite how much I loved Eternal Blue, I was worried since then they wouldn't be able to evolve their sound or set them apart from other metalcore bands. Still looking forward to their future projects though.
The first thing I said to my buddy after hearing this single was "Nothing in it was memorable. No hooky riffs, no catchy vocal melodies, very stale chorus. etc." It's not a bad song...but it's not a good one either imo.
Hard disagree, this song constantly finds its way to getting played, usually more than once a day. Even if I didn’t want to admit it, this is an amazing song
I quite like the song, but not for the reason I wanted to. Wondering if they are saying something by releasing this first as a metalcore band. I loved all 3 Rotoscope songs tho
I felt exactly the same way you did. Not memorable, repetitive, bland...just not really "Single" worthy. Stunning that Sleep Token almost put out the same level of "okayish" songwirting not too long ago with their new single. 😅 I think you're on your way to be a top notch progressive music conaisseur. 😊🎉
Fair for the honesty pal, I personally think the song is a belter. Sort of washes over you, her singing voice is unreal. Good one for the gym playlist.
Maybe it'll grow on me like Eternal Blue did but at least right now, the chorus has killed the track for me. It's a bit too poppy. It's like another attempt at Secret Garden but without the memorable guitar riff. Ehh. It's better than the entirety of Rotoscope at least, but it's going far and far away from what I like in my music. I could put it on when I want chill music but the thing is, I've got more memorable music for that like a lot of other Post Metal stuff. Plus, if the best thing that I can say about a song is that it'll be fun to just put as background music, is it really much of a compliment? Idk
You're right. The song is fkn boring. It obviously doesn't discredit the good songs that they've released in the past, but my god I feel like some folks have rose colored glasses on for this one
Its interesting how subjective music is as for me, I havent really enjoyed much of Spiritbox outside of Holy Roller. This song however is absolutely brilliant in my opinion, I hope its a grower song for you guys who arent feeling it.
i agree with drew’s thoughts, as i have kinda the same. the chorus kinda got the ‘rotoscope’ treatment where it’s hard to understand what she’s saying, and it indeed does not belong up there with ‘eternal blue.’ like drew said, they have many other memorable songs, like circle with me, sun killer, and constance. my final rating, 5/10.
I feel like it was a very safe song so to speak, like a filler song. I still like it and of course not every song needs to have some sort of massive drop to it, but they could've played around with it more than they did.
I was at one of the first shows of this current headlining tour. It was played and unreleased at the time. I was so fucking into it. Like as bias as can be here, but the vibes in the pit was indescribable. everything and everyone was like in a trance. I am always gunna be happy when this song comes up in the playlist. That being said, outside of the bias, this is a terrible single. haha no other way around it. it's a perfect middle of the album song between bangers. Like at the end of this song it even abruptly cuts off. My guess is the song after likely starts with bang, you know? I agree with the poor choice for a single . But live performance can confirm, A+. im sure you will not be disappointed.
