fire track!!! could you please make a mixing tutorial next? your tracks always have such a punchy low end and such a crisp high end!
@@Person-cc1xb He has an incredible multi video mixing tutorial on his channel already. Do a little digging ;)
I’m working on a really in depth mixing course right now that should be out in the fall 👍🏼
It's in my EDM Mix playlist now. 🔥
This advice is critical to take your tracks to the top level. However, this also takes a lot of discipline and experience to not get too lost in endless possibilities and options to the point you never can decide. 🤘
I’m stuck in the option paralysis zone
@@rascalbootleg Focus on ur date limit to deliver the project. You'll find ur max amount real quick lol
Actually, it's easier than you might think.
that comes with experience tho too and thats part of finding your sound and having an idea of what genre and idea youre going for and having favorite presets helps
The baseline switch up is definitely god tier 🔥🔥🔥
i agree

@@hendrix6useless comment! We all get his point! Focus on the content not in the cover!!we need here BeethovenZ not agatha cristieZ
Amazing advice, as always. One strong sound is always better than layering 10 average sounds.
Dope! That’s why I think it’s great to send over your stems to a mixing engineer who is not attached to certain stems and can judge the track with unbiased ears.
I would say thats not even mixing because he is replacing the sounds, I might be wrong but I would say he is co-producing the track (and mixing it).
@@BurnBabylon_Selecta You are right. He is doing more than just “mixing”. But instead of working with heavy processing on a sound it can be wise to replace it with a more suitable sound. Call it what you like. I think it is an effective way to collaborate.
There are creative mixers who will do stuff like this but costs do get heavy.
@@BurnBabylon_Selectathere are mix engineers who offer services for additional production
Jack Conte describes this process of giving yourself as many different options to choose from/possibilities as "the funnel". Good advice for any creative project! Or things like job applications! Apply to 20 different jobs, five actually get back to you, two actually end up interviewing you, and one ends up hiring you. Doing the smallest amount of effort possible sets you up for the smallest probability of success.
that's also what investors were doing with startups back in the days. Investing in several, one would cover all the loss and make benefits
as long as you don’t take musical advice from Jack Conte you should be fine
Big Z is *the* greatest music production tutor, irrespective of genre.
1:56 exactly
You gave great A/B examples which really opened up the track, plus the philosophy for which parts should or should not be the main focal points. Big up!
Nothing but quality!
Great song!
Yesss, so happy to have a collab with the legend
You literally found the hidden gem in that track. Thanks for the tips. Yea, I'm really new (almost 2 years) in production but learning something new everyday.
Man the transformation was insane, well done!
More options do not always lead to a better result. The limiting factor is probably experience. When you are not experienced enough to know quickly wether the alternative sound that you just picked will work well for you in the final track, then more options can make you even more unsure.
What I would recommend is bouncing out the idea with different sounds, perhaps even 10 to 20 versions, then closing the project for now and listen to the versions back a couple days later (at least 3 days, better 1-2 weeks or even more, the longer the better). At that point in time you may find it easy to pick a favorite.
I find that having a present for my drum sampler for each of the different drum types help with picking good kicks, because then I literally only have to shit the MIDI notes up and down whilst playing. And I use a much bigger collection of samples in my preset for kicks than I do in my preset for open hats, because the rick kick is far more important. I should probably do a few different kick presets, based on the style of track that I'm making, but I haven't got good enough to justify that yet.
I personally don’t like having that many layers in my tracks. Sometimes simple is better.
the greatness of a producer cab be measured by how much he can get out of as few tracks as possible.
Not entirely true. A better measurement is how cohesive a track is even with a bunch of tracks. Some tracks that sound so simple are actually very dense arrangements.
and still it can't make an ok song great.@@MiketheNerdRanger
the king. loved this breakdown. If your ever looking for male vocals id love to throw some your way
This tune sounds amazing!
Night and day difference! That advice about "feeling" the background synths instead of hearing it especially hit home. I was surprised at how harshly low cut they were, almost like they were coming out of a phone. I didn't think you could get away with that, but it really does work.
Oh my goodness! You’re ridiculously great bro! ReDICKulous! 😮Good job!🥴
5-min master class. Don't get any better than that.
Simple yet sick advice. Everything that was needed to make the song great was pretty much already there in the original demo, but the way you honed and focused it ramped it up several notches. The advice is presented in a way that I feel like I could easily apply it to my own demos. Thanks!
Wow.
Yoo! Congrats with release on Gemstone! Sick track, sick video as well!
You are a legend. been a fan for like 11 years now lol
Such small tweaks making a huge difference! What a great lesson, you're really good at this man... appreciate it!
Great video; great song. I love that slide you do at 2:27 and then the way the song ends is super dramatic. It's also interesting to see how a fresh set of well trained ears can take something already good to a whole new level. Always love your videos.
🔥🔥🔥
perfect, thank you!
Crazy how fresh ears can help with an arrangement! If this don’t tell anyone how important it is to collab….
But aye you made some great calls on the arrangement man. Definitely took the track to another level.
Always high-quality vids, straight to the point. Love it!
Big Z let's goooo
Wow I really love how you produce drums 🤩. Could you please a in depth tutorial about how you reason about drums. Most of your drums tutorials are about getting them FAT but not many about how to arrange them.
I’ll definitely think about doing a video more about drum arrangement, thanks for the idea man
I was surprised how many layers you used but understand it’s accentuating the rhythm of the track. Just wondering how you manage to mix so many layers in together?
@@lextonmusic5318 curious about this as well
congrats on your release on Selected!! will you make a tutorial on your new track?
omg man, youre such a freaking pro! love what you changed!
This is brilliant work, Big Z. You did make something that sounded good, and turned it into something that feels good.
3:40 bro exactly haha
Just ran across your channel during my daily morning ritual of discovering something new. Great suggestions, sir!!
You give great tips and make great music. Much love from NYC
I've always loved your content from day 1 but your camera confidence has taken your videos to the next level bro 😎, great work!
Nice T-Shirt! haha
Finding the lead, whether a vocal or a synth Line is probably the most important part of the track
Great advice ❤
Such a sick track! Love the sound!! Great job Z and thanks for making a video based around it !
What i needed to hear. Awesome as always, your videos are gold!
00:12 was MIND BLOWING!
I guess I am at 00:10 right now 😂
So much things to learn from this guy! Thank you!
Bangggg !!!!! its just insane ......Need a MASTERCLASS of this track.!!
Wow this is one of those things that sounds like a no brainer when you hear it out loud, but I noticed all of this in the track I'm working on now. Really awesome advice!
OMG. This is totally brilliant. Thanks Z !
Big Z is a professional in his field
Great T-Shirt
Killer job Big Z!
Beautiful 💯
Fire track 😮💨
Just... GREAT!, super helpfull!!!
That track is another level 💪🏻🔥
Stoked ⚡⚡ Amazing work.

Great work! And great tips aa allways
I would like to say thanks for your work ! i want to comeback to music After watching your video you advices are so well explained and you are a cool guy thanks for it 👍👍
Omg this sounds SICK 😍
what a fat production my friend...i like it from the first note! bastian
You and MHA are carrying my producer career
wow, nice track ! these modifications really shine
the process: make the song better
Another very helpful food for thought video on some great topics. Thank you Z. The tune is awesome. 🔥
At the start of the video.. Before the process sounded greater than after the process..
truth.
This video give me a lot new idea for my old "demo" tracks) thank!
Please do a mix breakdown of this track! Sounds so clean! Maybe a Mixing Masterclass 2?
I’ve been working on a new mixing course all summer that should be out in the fall sometime 👍🏼
@@BigZMusic A mixing course! That is great!
@@BigZMusic That's amazing!
You really elevated this song! Great work.
Blobby likes the lead synth nice work
Gold advice as always
So basically change out every sound that is important so it fits and do a complete new mix for it.
Your core idea is absolutely right and super important, but your example is not the representative of what can happen, if you just follow those steps. You basically rewrote the most important parts. The drum groove has a complete new feel to it as well.
Awesome advice! Could you do this same concept with modern pop / hip-hop / R&B (The Weeknd, Post Malone, etc)
i think your the best mixing engineer in the world.
Sounds awesome
oh man, that shirt. ❤
Would love to see your kick side chain attack/release settings
💯 Good stuff here..............thank you so much. 🙏🏾
Great advice!
Great stuff once again 👏 by the way a friend of mine looks exactly like you, true double being 😂 keep up the good work!
banger of a track
Love the song and great advice. Was listening on my computer, small Altec Lansing computer speakers, but with a separate sub-woofer, not great. Switched over to studio speakers, Rokit 5's through an interface and sounds great! Have to check it in my car.
What a tune, can you do full breakdown for this one please 🙌
Up
very nice. The results are very good.
That bass is 🔥 How'd you make it??
Wow! Amazing video and really great production skills man! Nice job. Thanks for showing us your process :)
What is “quality” is very subjective, remember that kids. Don’t trust people who’s nose makes little movements all the time like something stinks right next to them.
Thank you, Sir!
Im guessing this is what all the producer are talking about when they say i have the idea now i need to finish it. Which i never understood what they were talking about
Legend 🙌
You flipped this demo track to a RUFUS DU SOL banger... Incredible...
very well done man
Have you ever considered sharing project files as I feel like that would help a lot of people learn by seeing those
He sells some on his site
U never disappointed me bro
Amazing work as always
Amazing. You are so talented brother
Please do a video on how you mix and masters this track 😮
