    At 9:50 you open two SPANs.
    If you are able to route 2 Tracks into the same SPAN you can benefit from its "multi-channel analysis":
    "SPAN supports multi-channel analysis, and can be set to display spectrums from two different channels or channel groups at the same time. Spectrum's color can be chosen to taste."
    This might come handy.

    Usually I just take bass sounds and kick sounds and cut between 150 to 200hz out of them and cut a little bit of the high mids from other sounds like strings (the high pitched aliasing just makes it sound worse) so my vocals can come through without interference

    • @Gnurklesquimp2
      @Gnurklesquimp2 Рік тому +1

      It's easy to overdo it sometimes, but after a while it gets a lot better.
      My speaker port was broken for a long time so I made music on some terrible speakers, I went back to check everything I made on that, and the kick adsr was by far the biggest overal issue. It made me realize something, though... It can be worth it to keep more decay/sustain/release on other frequencies, depending on the kind of kick and track.
      In most house kicks etc. it's mostly just the lows that last long anyway, but for hiphop, for example, it can be a way to keep some of the character of those kicks even in tracks where they shouldn't dominate the low end.
      Of course, it's also common to layer sounds with multiple sources, a real kick drum's ~300hz + with some nice sustain over a tight bassy kick is great for mixing in an organic sound, for example. Noise can also be great, as usual!

    • @nebukad1833
      @nebukad1833 Рік тому

      Thanks for sharing here. I agree to kick adsr. I‘m using good headphones + sound Id reference plugin to finally hear the details, which was impossible before in my untreated room and monitors.

    This IS GOLDEN! I'd been working myself towards finding a similar system and seeing it here makes me glad. I hadn't thought of track keys, which is a super plus too. Maybe if I down pitch up pitch the reference track in ableton and keep the warping it can work for that too.

    did you know that you are able to see both, the signal coming through the master and the reference track, inside of one instance of span? You just need to set the reference track as sidechain input for span on the master. I don't know about other DAWs but in ableton it's not possible to do that with the vst3 version but you can set a sidechain input with vst2.4. So inside span you gotta click the little arrow pointing down just right next to "Routing" and select "2.1 Stereo" and then activate the underlay function. And boom you can see both signals underlayed!

    • @xseb1
      @xseb1 Рік тому +1

      👆This is the way! Much cleaner to have both spectrums overlayed in one instance of SPAN, in my opinion.

    Will , hello again and love your videos. Previous said you have inspired me to spend more time with Ableton 11 doing deep house and techno music. I ve purchases splice monthly, and serum based off of your videos and love them. Trying to be like Will :) lol.
    I have s few questions about this video and then a general question to about your classes
    Question1 - will this work for more than just deep house and dance music. For example i recorded Blackbird by the beatles with vocalist and was wondering if this method could also be done there. The track only has a kick drum, acoustic guitar track and single female vocal track.
    Question2 - after mixing the kick and bass can this method also be used for the mid frequencies and High frequencies. i would believe that would cover the mids of the guitar and vocals, and then the highs of the guitar and vocals.
    Question3 - if the kick drum is not showing the same as the reference track on SPAN what should be done to make them closer? Will using EQ 8 on the kick track be the main method to get that Spectrum shape to match up with the reference
    General Question- You share a lot of tips and trick on your youtube channel on how to improve recording and mixing skills. What does your accelerator program offer to make it better than the videos on your channel. I'm assuming interactive feedback on assignments and such. just wondering. I still feel like stuff i put together on my DAW is not as good as it could be. And it seems that now days music is made from start to finish in Ableton, or other DAWs and there is not much else. It seems the old days you would record something. Then that would go to a mixer. Then those songs would to to a mastering pro. Now it seems like it can all be done with a few plugins, a DAW and trained ears..
    Well let me know about my questions if possible. I am considering this class. I'm 46, have a pretty decent studio with Ableton 11 and now I'm single and trying to get back to my first love, music . im ready to pour my time and effort into this hobby and try to make something of it. don't want to keep dragging my feet until all my equipment is outdated...again...im i will be older too. lol. I love the idea about learning to create EDM and getting recognized and signed. Of course getting signed takes much much more than just knowing how to record and mix but just like anything it takes that special bit of song writing, meaningful lyrics, memorable hook and chorus and just overall creative catchy sounds that make the song stand out.

    Leave it to EDM Tips to give you practical advice about specific thing that is ACTUALLY important for shaping the sound of the specific genre and not go on and on about EQs, Compressors and regurgitate music advice in general as many other channels do to stretch the watch time. Very helpful and clear presentation. Thanks! However, as someone who occasionally dabbles in old school hardcore/gabber, I would not sign off on choosing the kick to go along with the bass. It also depends on the genre which of the two gives the track its character.
