I'm not surprised that he wanted to stop playing Don Draper. Look at Ronn Moss who played Ridge Forrester #1 on The Soap Opera The Bold & The Beautiful who previously was in The Group Player who had the Hit Record "Baby Come Back". He played it for 25 Years, I'm sure he felt burned out.
@Drgonzo666 Well that's funny that you project that. Obviously you have an unaddressed insecurity you are trying to avoid with such a comment in an attempt to make yourself feel better and somehow superior.
he'd be really good in a quentin tarantino movie. quentin likes serious characters that can be really funny, like leo's character in django. john hamm and quentin need to happen.
Quentin's new movie will be about the Manson murders, which is already in the process of casting. More urgently, though, Quentin has said he's only going to direct ten movies, and then he'll stop. He's done eight so far. Jon's too handsome to play Manson, but hey, I'll take it. (Yet to watch Baby Driver, but two endorsements on this thread, so I'll get to it.)
What I find interesting is that while he’s much happier and.. lighter feeling, more relaxed and at ease, he seems really intelligent. I wondered if the actor was intelligent when I saw Jon as Don Draper, because he had this weight to his performance. It was like you could see him thinking, or the wheels turning, but were never sure exactly *what* he was thinking. The subtlety in how he played the role, the pathos and deep tide of grief, his fear masked in arrogance, his amazing ability to strategize, his mind always seeking, it was such a well formed performance. It was hard to think of it and him doing so well if the actor was not as intelligent as the character, or at least very nearly. It was something that made me curious for years. What an awesome actor.
He has the absolute perfect look for that era - kudos to the casting director - some eye. I enjoyed Madmen - and all the people in the cast. All he women were really great in their roles as well!
Much respect to Mr. Hamm, but I find it nearly impossible to separate Don Draper from John Hamm. Don Draper was such a deep and complex character you felt like you really knew Don Draper. Also the fact that John Hamm is such a great actor and literally became the Don Draper character. The realism of Madmen is just uncomparable to any other TV show in history. For me, Madmen is hands down the greatest television drama in history.
Hard to disagree with anything you wrote, well said. Don Draper will always come to mind 1st before John Hamm..for probably everyone. I think for me personally the only Drama that comes close is Sopranos. I have watched a little of Boardwalk Empire which is a favorite Dark horse in that category but no way. Mad Men is the slickest show i've ever seen. the Swagger that show has is off the charts.
I really like how he seems to contradict his appearance and personality because he looks authorative and reserved but hes actually easy going and funny.😄
You get a car! He is appealing. I have not seen Mad Men which may lead to typecasting. I have seen other stuff that makes me believe he will be staple for Hollywood; the media anyway.

He's a way too good actor to be playing all the superhero roles people are suggesting. I wanna see him in a crime drama alongside Dominic West, directed my Michael Man.
He reminds me of a more down to earth serious version of Robert Downey Jr. Super cool guy, I feel like he is gonna in some really big roles in the future
I thought Dan Draper was a great character and the show was so historically accurate fashion wise that I asked my granddaughter, 19, to watch it with me and see the past. Wow, she hated it. Hated him. She'd never seen anyone smoke indoors, never seen 2 people smoking at the same time, never seen anyone drink all day and she was disgusted that anyone who'd just smoked 1000 cigarettes and guzzled a bottle of booze would then get in a car and ram his tongue down a woman's throat and she'd let him. ("He must stink") I had to laugh, but that's how things were. And the things the men said to the women and about the women disgusted my goody 2 shoes, but I recall those things being said everyday. I remember the sixties, this show was exactly on point. I hadn't realised how much some things have changed. I could give the date of all the tv news bulletins. And the size of the computer! the phone in my hand has more capacity. How shocking will this show be to my younger grandchildren in 10 years time?
I was a child through the latter part of that era. But even as a child I can remember the behaviors, the sights, sounds, scents and so many other things that they got exactly right on this show. And Jon Hamm was perfectly cast as Don Draper.
Jon Ham is too classy an actor for Batman for absolute fools. He needs to be in something real. Dramatic. His role in Black Mirror was phenomenal. More of that, please
Mad Men was/is a fantastic show. I stumbled across Mad Men and enjoyed binge watching the entire series in a matter of weeks. Jon Hamm was such perfect casting as Don Draper. I love Jon’s personality when he is just being himself, but I did love Don Draper even though he was dark in Mad Men , he was fascinating and charismatic. Jon Hamm is also pretty easy on the eye!
Jon Hamm is a classically handsome man. Even here looking casual he's just gorgeous. It's sad to hear about the loss of his mother and father. He was truly amazing as Don Draper. What a series.
That's great. Thanks for your love and support it has been a landslide but we pull through and your every little support has brought me this far. Write me a direct email on thejonhammofficial@gmail.com
Agree. I think Jeffrey brings just too much swagger. There are moments there when he really is good -- really strong. But I think Hamm would have toned it down, brought the charm and the wisecracks but I think he would also have done a great job at bringing to the fold just how dangerously damaged a person Negan is.
Such a great dramatic actor, it’s a shame - and frankly, shocking - that he isn’t being offered dramatic roles in meaningful films with top-rate writers and directors.
I lived part of that Madmen world in the 1960s...and he hit it perfectly...I have been interested in his work from their on out...not disappointed either...Go John!
HE's so perfect: Gorgeous, funny, perfect hair, and if set rumors and pictures I've seen of him in basketball shorts are true, he really is 100% (and 10") Hamm!
This is kind of sad. Nobody can replace Don Draper. He should still play him just in case they make a movie out of Don or if a movie is set in the same universe.
I'm writing this as my wife and I just received our Complete Series Package and we are working through the episodes and the special features/commentaries for the first time. What an achievement for everyone involved.
First of all this guy is an amazing actor. Just finished watching the show and I knew what needed to happen was him finding his inner happiness and finally putting his past aside. And I could’ve sworn the show would end him w Peggy, but I was wrong lol thankfully. But it would’ve been pretty good to know for what reason Stephanie left exactly ?
PK Ralph I’m pretty sure that isn’t what happens in the finale of Mad Men. In that moment, that was supposed to be something spiritual, he found inspiration for that Coca-Cola ad which would be his greatest creation. Meaning he can’t get his mind from work, meaning that he was kind of born for that job. He could never change because he never wanted to change. He felt realised with what he had accomplished. That’s what I get from that scene.
He gives me the same vibe as Bryan Cranston, down to earth guys, capable of extreme drama and also extremely funny. I would love to see them in something together.
Jon could be the next James Bond! He has everything to be. He has natural charm, is very elegant and has an athletic physique. Also, a great talented actor that he is!
Awwwwn 🥰, thanks so much heavenly and adorable 💖 creature 🌹, thanks for all your mind blowing.......... comments and your sincerity towards me 😎 words can't explain how happy I am with this your write up, it gladdens my heart 💓. Where are you watching from...?
I understand what he's saying, in school a classmate lost both his parents. Mom died in accident and father committed suicide soon after. He went into shock i remember, first he sat in school as he got the news privately by the principal, when I talked to him he looked blank into the ground, I didn't know what happened, he ignored everything happening around him. When we went home to school he started to shiver, fell on the ground, his eyes rolled back and spit bubbles foaming out of his mouth. A woman tried to help and our classmates called an ambulance. When I was younger it was very strange, I saw it and I couldn't feel or imagine what he went through. He had to be very strong, but recently saw a pic of him online and as I'm seeing he's studying to become a doctor. So I'm glad things turned out better for him. But losing your parents at such young age really is something you can not forget.
This guy you could drop anywhere... and he would float. A truly bankable actor. ~ On a more personal note, utmost respect for his comments about his parents.
I'm an old history major. When I saw mad men I saw Hamm's depth talent and skill. I found out later he was an acting teacher. Much continuing success Mr. Hamm. Peace.
Definitely one of my favourite actors! Sorry to hear about losing his parents at such a young age. Lost my mum, but I was 45 at the time (no time is ever a good time to lose a parent, though). I'm sure losing a parent when you're a kid defines your entire future...
One great example of how impactful Mad Men truly was. Willie Geist, sitting here interviewing Jon Hamm, has a haircut that became a fad because of Mad Men. And it still is a thing. That's deep level impact right there.
He nailed it on Don Draper best casting in addition to Hamm making the character his own. The guy not only looked the part but was so believable it was amazing. Seems like he always looked mid 40s in as a kid.
we just discovered mad men and I'm lucky I got my partner to persevere with it because she thought it was too slow - we are half way thru season 4 and she's now addicted!
I truly enjoyed Jon Hamm's vulnerability in his performance. Nothing appeals to the audience to see "how good their acting crafts is when being so "raw" in their emotions. Wonderfully played.
OMG He should play a teacher Mr Jefferson from "Life is Strange" if they make a movie version. That's would be amazing! he's fits so well, with that glasses.
Was expecting to watch this and think he's a bit more arrogant than I thought but god he makes a really good point. Don Draper is a good character but he is a bummer. Also I remember being really surprised that Jon Hamm was actually known for being such a good dramatic actor because I'd only ever seen him in comic roles. Didn't realise this was what he was in large part known for.
Jon went from playing a 1960's ad exec to dressing like a 2017 ad exec.

we just discovered mad men and I'm lucky I got my partner to persevere with it because she thought it was too slow - we are half way thru season 4 and she's now addicted!
He was also in the great show called A Young Doctor's Notebook with Daniel Radcliffe.
I truly enjoyed Jon Hamm's vulnerability in his performance. Nothing appeals to the audience to see "how good their acting crafts is when being so "raw" in their emotions. Wonderfully played.
#MizzouMade We are so proud of you, Hamm!!!
Um he actually got kicked out of a Texas university for severe fraternity hazing assault
Jon Hamm doesn't age. I love Mad Men.❤️
Mad Men is one of my favourite tv shows EVER ❤️😍
Thanks dear nice meeting you
on the last episode, I cried for the first time in 2 years.
men do cry.
As soon as he said “bummed out” I was like: wow this fool really isn’t Don Draper in real life
just rewatched mad men and it messes with my head that jon hamm and midge maisel probably crossed paths in NYC 😂
OMG He should play a teacher Mr Jefferson from "Life is Strange" if they make a movie version.
That's would be amazing! he's fits so well, with that glasses.
Alex that's perfect
Wow he lost his mother and father? Wow. And he went on to become such a successful man. New level of respect for this guy.
Y'all didn't even mention young doctors notebook
I'm in season 5 of mad men. Great show!!
Jon Hamm and Kevin Bacon should do a sizzle reel together.
Wes Thomas kevin bacon ugghh 🤢
Don Draper is the MAN I love Mad Men!!!
The greatest casting in the world was Mad Men
