I recently watched the whole series again, and fell in love with Don Draper. I loved the nuanced and deep portrayal by Jon Hamm. He was neither a good guy nor a bad guy, but a multi-dimensional man, flawed and gifted. This actor's intelligence shines through the role.

I fully intended to watch Mad Men when it first came out, but life happened and I missed the entire series.
I just watched all of it two weeks ago and I am floored by John Hamm. He is 1000% brilliant in the show. Your eyes never leave him.
Timothy Dalton is my favorite actor in the Universe, and John Hamm just might be his equal.

Don is a coward, self centred to the point of narcissism, misogynistic, morally corrupt. Anything that he does that is decent is done purely for effect. If you fall in love with a guy like that, you will come out of it badly.

Once in a while someone comes along and owns a character with such skill that we can't even imagine anyone else playing it; like Jon Hamm and Don Draper.

    • @JP-ve7or

I'm on yet another rewatch, and I'm no longer sure Don's a coward at all. Dude saw his father and his commanding officer killed right in front of him. He had a horrifically abusive childhood. It takes guts to start all over from nothing. I mean I still don't agree with a lot of his life choices, and maybe he could have benefitted from therapy, if only he'd have been open to it (and yeah, not a lot if people were back then.) Coward just feels like an inadequate word or concept for a troubled survivor. 🤷
Also, I know absolutely nothing about you, but I hope you're doing ok.

The impression I have is that, Jon has incorporated so much over all these years, the character Don Draper, that fixation has come true in his life. And I see how he struggles not to experience this reality. A character that consecrated him to the actor, but that already saturated all his emotion, exhausting it to the point of him wanting to be free of him. I wish he lived now, other people of success who with lightness, make them happy as an actor.

I love watching Don Drapers platonic relationships Peggy/Anna/Joan etc. even Sally they are the most interesting. Even though he is absolutely gorgeous, I would prefer to be his friend. Every other women is just a notch on the bed post! Jon Hamm is a cross between Clive Owen and Daniel Craig but way more attractive. The interviewer looks a little like Jennifer Westfeldt so she might think she has a chance. Haha feet flirting definitely!

“You look like a hundred bucks” -maybe it’s inflation - in Kath and Kim that comment was an insult !

We all see the laurels of the celebrities. We thought their life were easy. Did we think about the humiliations, sufferings, and physical challenges of acting? Even modeling is a physically challenging job.
Rich people’s life is not easy.

Didn't he go into treatment for alcoholism in 2015, meanwhile, there's two bottles of booze, a shaker on the table and a martini glass on his side?

2012 interview. He was probably riding high at the time, unaware of the "crash" 3 miles ahead. Or, they could just be stage props.
