Nada (Roddy Piper), a wanderer without meaning in his life, discovers a pair of sunglasses capable of showing the world the way it truly is. As he walks the streets of Los Angeles, Nada notices that both the media and the government are comprised of subliminal messages meant to keep the population subdued, and that most of the social elite are skull-faced aliens bent on world domination. One of those rare occasions when a movie has a message that is intended to wake people up.
Sadly, when I first saw this movie as a young man, the subtle message in it TOTALLY eluded me!! (It took me personally TWO DECADES to realize this movie was NOT just "eye candy" for young men barely out of adolescence who like "action" and "shoot-em-ups". Of course, being partially raised on Mtv when that channel did nothing BUT music videos back in the day when this movie came out did not make me any smarter either.

A lot of movie (especially blockbusters) don’t film in real location that much anymore. It’s all green screen. While it can produce good stuff most of the time, it feels and look weird.
This is one of John Carpenters best films in my opinion. Roddy Piper was great in this film. The fight in the alley over the glasses was epic.
Saw this movie in the theatre when i was in high school , i didn't realize it at the time that i was actually watching a documentary , the movie was quickly pulled from theatre's after being out only a week , i wonder why that was ?

@@Kekeboy100 I'm 50 years old and went through all my foolish years of skepticism and being "awake" and "red pilled" ... it's all egotistical horse shit, thinking oneself is more intelligent than everybody else. There is no planned conspiratorial system afoot, where faceless demons are in control and we are all on puppet strings. I ditched my childlike thinking years ago. But I completely understand where you are at. The truth is, NOBODY is really at the wheel. We're lucky systems this big actually work, and need to be grateful the west has figured out as much as we did over the last couple centuries. I'd suggest some Jordan Peterson for you... gratitude and astonishment is what you need... not resentment and narcissistic skepticism.
I could get into a long lecture about the miracle of western structure, ambition, freedom, reward, law & order, respect for authority, respect for history, and schedules... but it would be too long. @@Macabre124 Yes friend..on March 10 2020 and the following 2 months everyone were forced at home, except for those with necessary jobs (hospitals, supermarkets). The next months they slowly "granted" us more freedom, but today April 23 2021, gyms, swimmig pools and other are still closed (and i work for a gym company).What was all that for? I dont see in Italy we had so much less deaths compared to our inhabitants than America. I don't think its something supernatural going on, rather nefarious. We are conditioned and programmed by so much stimuli. As someone who codes and does graphic design, I see how those same principles were used to manipulate people.
Code is more akin to how we are conditioned and literally programmed to act, behave, and think. Graphic design is a trip because I put up signs like ones shown here to literally make you do exactly that, but disguised as a friendly company. In a way, I am a slave who is used to enslave others to consume. Crazy reality.
It's interesting how people so strongly attach their own beliefs to this movie, thinking that they're the truly enlightened ones and everyone else is under control. Same with The Matrix. Ironically, some of the people who are most under control are the ones who are convinced that they've seen through it all, unaware that they've just under a different type of control.

The search for the truth never ends and that in itself can become an unhealthy addiction that could waste your time and energy. An addiction like playing video games or binge watching TV shows. I take doses of truth in moderation just enough to understand what is what and why then I live my life.
