    00:00 Hello Everyone!
The Superbet Rapid & Blitz Poland is the 2nd stage on the 2023 Grand Chess Tour, a series of five events with a total prize fund of $1.4 million. The 10-player event features World Champion Ding Liren and world no. 1 Magnus Carlsen, and is taking place in the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw from May 20-25, 2023.
The rapid is a 10-player single round-robin with 3 rounds each day on the first 3 days at a time control of 25 minutes for all moves and a 10-second increment from move 1. The final 2 days are a blitz double round-robin, with 18 rounds of 5+2 blitz. Rapid games count double, with 2 points for a win and 1 for a draw. Official website: grandchesstour.org

@@unknown-unknown69 : "On purpose", no. But he will try sub-optimal openings to see if he can convert them into either wins or draws, no minding the loss as they occur. He himself stated that most of the "proven stuff" are boring to him. He has nothing more to prove, can we all agree on this? So, again, not on purpose, but he'll monkey around a bit at first, because he can afford to (or just out of plain boredom). That's how I see it. Cheers!

It was not a por start, it was just different time format. Magnus was outclassing his opponents mainly in time trouble during the blitz section as he is clearly far ahead of all players (except Hikaru) in speed chess, but it was not that easy in 25+10 rapid.

In the long term where maybe did Wesley So mess up? I contend it was when he exchanged his King's Bishop with Carlsen's Queen's Bishop. He no longer had knight protection for his king. Where did So's queen's knight end up when desperately needed to counter Magnus attacking Kings knight? Wesley's knight was far away on his Queen side where eventually his king also ended up after being a punching bag for about 20 moves!

As Magnus ages he will find more days where he struggles at times. Then when he returns to great form he will think all is right. However the brain does slow down as you age but it varies from person to person. I think that is why Botvinnik hated speed and rapid Chess as it led to feelings of uncertainity. Botvinnik, by all accounts loved certainty, firmness and clarity. Amazing that he played longer than Kasparov and Kramnik.

I think Magnus needs a year off. That's why we're seeing some dip in his performance. He's rocked it for decades. Now it's time to relax. And he knows that. Enjoy a year. Be a family man. Enjoy your life away from chess. Because before you know it you'll be pulled right back in. Don't fight the break. Embrace it. Then come back and destroy everyone again Sir. Carlsen.

At 9:46, I thought Qa5 check, Kb2, Nf3, forking knight and queen and the black knight is pinned. What's wrong with that line?
