Nice video, thanks. I got two good ideas from you for my directional Yagi antenna-- 1- use only one of the original two antenna supports and just remove the other one 2-altho you chose not to, I ran my cable through the refrigerator vent-cap (2006 Winnebago View). It was tricky to drill the 5/8 hole from vent-space above the fridge into a narrow cavity on interior next to top of fridge. Then I tuggged the cable thru from inside after Gorilla-taping it to a long screwdriver that I inserted from inside. A 20-foot cable was just long enough to reach my signal amp located just ahead of the coach door. Never even knew what that big plastic cap on roof was for till you told me! Gracias
Hold my beer. I'm gonna mount mine by using two bolts through the pole mount bracket on my booster in place of the two pins with C clips (at 4:01) on the existing winegard antenna. That way I can keep the useless tv antenna intact and still spin my directional booster without having it pointing to the sky when it's down.
Did you ever try using the existing antenna to the booster? Antenna are just pieces of metal, I don’t know why it wouldn’t work but I don’t know much about broadcast frequencies.
It’s been working well. The Omni directional antenna is not as powerful as the Yagi directional antennas I have but setup at camp is quick and easy. If I have a bar or two of signal without boost, the booster will amplify to 4 bars.
As I gather the antenna mount is retracted when driving, did you notice any boost if you tried it when the antenna is lying flat? I like your idea but want to maximize reception while on the move as well. Can't have everything.
Is the reason you used the Yagi antenna was because of your cell service frequency band? The antenna that comes with the booster supports up to 700mhz.
I use a uni-directional yagi on my home system (WeBoost) so I can point directly to the closest tower that’s about 5 miles away. Stronger signal using uni-directional. My home booster is 700, 800, 1900, & 1700-2100 MHz.
The antenna that I mounted on the truck camper comes from the kit that I linked in the description. (The first link) The uni-directional Yagi antenna is what I have on my house (used with my WeBoost amplifier) and will test against the Phonetone kit.
I use ATT but it works on Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. It’s Dual 700MHz Band 12/13/17 Cellular Repeater. Yes, when I first tested it, I did a temporary install by running the cable through the vent.
I have the WeBoost by Wilson Electronics on/in my house. Been running it for 4 years. It’s a good system. I purchased this inexpensive booster because it’s not used as often and to compare functionality against the more expensive WeBoost. I paid nearly $1000 for the WeBoost on my house. (Directional Yagi Antennas 30 feet up.) This PhoneTone booster was $179. So far, so good.
Nice video, thanks.

Really great video!! The same thing I am going to do except I have a directional antenna. Thanks.
👍🏻

If the coax is intact, could you use it rather than running new cable? Just connect it at the antenna and again at the 12v/coax plug inside?
I had that same idea. Haven't done it yet. Can't wait to see how it works when you are boondocking.

Awesome explanation and job!! Thanks. Ron and Sandy
Thanks! It’s nice to have strong cell/data service in the camper now.

Can you leave the bat wing on?
I’m sure that could be done
Nice job again
Thanks! It’s working nicely.

Also the antenna you mounted looks totally different from link in your page. Can provide a link with the one you mounted? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I would also note the booster you’re using for your camper only supports frequency band 12/13/17 only. Which I can’t use.
What carrier are you using? Wonder if it matters? can it be used as a temporary set up instead of permanent install? Thanks for sharing.

Why did you not go with WeBoost?
