Rooster Teeth does a very similar thing. They try to appear fun, crass, and sorta "buddy-cop," where their workplace is made to look like a madcap dimension where everyone pranks each other and has a good time. In reality, they're an extremely calculated business playing off of a strong fan community and the level of entertainment popular in their demographic. Red Vs. Blue has more seasons than Stargate SG-1 and is approaching Star Trek levels. It's even been acknowledged in Halo games. The Game Grumps are cool dudes who know what they're doing with their lives.
They're not naive, they're smart. They know that if they fabricate a sense of wonder and sensationalism retards will flock to them. It's one of the reasons why tv is never really going away in its entirety.
UA-camViewer Millinieal as a term is used for anyone born between around 1976 to 1995 to tie them into a generation. A lot of people say its more of 1980 to 1995 though. Anyways... yeah, a Millinieal can be in their 30s.

Dimitri Sanchez He didn't say it was "major" for a decade. That's your take. He said it's been around for a decade and it has. In fact, it's been just over as it was launched in feb of '05. By 2006 it was already popular enough that Google purchased it for over $2 billion USD in Google stocks and shares. Face it, he's basically right.

In some ways, yes, but the whole "make a shitton of money just from UA-cam ads" thing to a level that rivals traditional media is a relatively recent development. Let's Play per se is old hat; but being a "professional" LPer and having that be a legitimate threat to cable TV numbers is still pretty new.

i mean, almost every news station looks pretty bad because presentation means basically nothing when it comes to how many people watch them, but it's even worse for local stations like this since they have smaller viewerbases. news channels don't have to be pretty because the people who watch don't really care
A is for alliteration, good job Ryan you alliterated quite well. You earned yourself a gold star. Just like the Auschwitz dwellers back in those crazy times.
@@chenstormstout9456 It’s a mixture of luck and knowing what you’re doing. If you know how the algorithm works best, you can make videos to suit that, but it’s luck getting your video actually picked up and sent around, ie, people commenting and liking boosting the video. When you do go viral out of pure dumb luck, then you actually need to think like a business person to keep that exposure alive
To be fair, most of the community isn't exactly clean. I don't mean that in a bad sense, but I mean that it's not something the news can actively talk about without mentioning some of the weird and seemingly insulting inside jokes that the community talks about.
The difference is that the news casters made that joke genuinely, thinking "hey, clever pun, let's pat ourselves on the back" whereas danny and arin would make that joke sarcastically, half of the joke being the fact that the joke itself is bad.
I love how they took Arin out of context when he said he used his money to buy a car. Was not even a game grumps video, he was talking about his pokemon animation there. lol
"How do you think your parents describe what you do to their friends?" "I have no earthly idea." Oh but we fans can take a good guess! "Eeeeh, my son Danny is ,eh, like Wreck It Ralph!"
that bit at 2:03 wasnt about game grumps lmao i watched the interviews on grumpout recently and that was him talking about the time he did animations for MTV
have to agree with everyone on how patronizing this is. What would piss me off most if I had agreed to do this interview is "they're making boatloads of money" "so much money" They only use Arin's soundbite about money, and then say "The game grumps have nothing to be grumpy about". Fuck that, there's two sides to every coin, and any grumps fan has heard all about some of the downsides of their lifestyle and career, for one thing losing a LOT of personal privacy. I hoped they'd focus on that side of being the huge internet stars they are.
Yeah, but let's face it, this is the news we are talking about, they won't cover everything, only the things that sell. EDIT: I'm honestly waiting for people to be like: "These people sound like absolute dicks!" and then watch a few episodes and check out some non-gameplay content, where they get real and speak the truth. They'd be like "Hey these people are pretty cool" and realize they've been lied to.
It is a 3 minute and 37 second bit on a news network. Of course they're only going to focus on the upsides of this type of profession because that's all they have time for. Jesus, don't take it so personally.
"The game grumps have nothing to be grumpy about". Fuck that" You do realize that was a joke, right? Albeit, a very corny one, but not an attempt to patronize them. Like King Solomon I said, they only have 3 minutes to report their story, so they're only going to talk about their income and status. They do this because even though people like us know about Game Grumps and what they're about, people in in this type of audience that these News shows cater to don't know them, and still see UA-cam as something pointless and unproductive. This is news to a lot of people that don't use the internet for entertainment (i.e. elderly, middle age, sometimes youth)
They're only talking about how they make money. It's so sad. "Outsiders" looking into UA-cam will find people making money by making video's of them playing videogames. "Insiders" looking into UA-cam will find creative geniusses that entertain people by doing what they love.
PolarPoop I mean… it's kind of both. UA-camrs are revolutionary because they're making themselves famous by being themselves and having fun. No one is "discovering" them, they don't have to put on an act, they don't have to be hand-selected out of hundreds of people going after the same role, they don't need to have dozens of people working to put them in the public eye. UA-camrs are establishing businesses and brands by being themselves. That's part of why this stuff is so cool. Arin created a business, made the biggest paycheck of his life, and bought a car by playing video games and cracking jokes with the people closest to him. That's kind of amazing.
Kelly Wolstenholme This, but then there's the sad, sad individuals that still want put on a show just to get the extra viewership. I could easily name a few, but in-denial fans would say otherwise. There are, however, some who have come out and said that they did exactly that and that they've become tired of being such a fake person.
Strongside They have to, otherwise people who watch the news constantly (AKA elder people who dont know what a smart phone is) would know the truth and would turn to YT
Jesus Christ, watching clueless oldies talk about UA-camrs like it's some completely new revelation is just soooo cringe-worthy. I was half expecting: So Dan, what is "The Internet"?
We gotta take into account the public target who watch those news reports tho Yes this not BIG NEWS, but, I'm gonna guess the people who actually watched this GameGrumps segment live on TV either: A) Were fans B) Had NO idea of who they are and what they do
I like how the make it look like a proffesional business when really its just Arin talking about pooping like 50% of the time
what a time to be alive
You made me chuckle by pointing that out, have a digital cookie.
"cool living you're making. glad i sent you to college."
right in the middle of nonsensical combinations of fecal-related matter type sentences.
and the other 50% is talking about dicks
They've got recording materials, learned how to edit some stuff, record, and they're great people in general, that recipe is what make them be kinda proffesional, you kinda need to learn a few stuff to even be able to do what they do, they didn't start making content on UA-cam yesterday, it's been a long fucking time, especialy for Arin, i think they kinda deserve what they get right now, because they really did put effort behind it !
Still, yes, that's not like they're making scientific videos, it's for fun, but it works damn well ("x !
There's something special about the fact we're all watching this news broadcast on UA-cam.

Or Arin's texts to Dan using talk to text
"NO! I HIT END! *I HIT END!* NO! NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
*every television in LA area spontaneously combusts*
or "FUCK YOU, SIVAK GAMES! GO SUCK MY GODDAMN DAD'S CHODE!"
Jigalo? Is that how you write it in English?
"They're now teaching this youtube trend."
"Im not gonna lie, this is an unmitigated disaster"
Next up at 5: The question burning on everyone's minds, Does Bruno Mars is Gay?
@RELOAD Official Thanks, that really cleared things up
DOES HE!?
No the real question is does gay Bruno mars
genuinely laughed out loud at "I have no earthly idea"
*serious newscaster* "can we get a glimpse at your work?"
*Arin*(deepbreath) " MY PU- (Beeeeeeep) ACHES FOR MORE POKEMON!"
phone kami 69 likes
"Aaand I think weel just cancel your segment there"
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You can make MONEY playing VIDEO GAMES? I had no idea! :o
Hey arlo, Happy to see you here.

Arlo You shouldn't be able to, though.
"Clearly the Grumps have nothing to be grumpy about"
Wha-
*sigh*
I almost cried
Jose Ramirez doesn't he know about the *UNAVOIDABLE CHIN MOVE*
*WhAt Is ThIs?!*
UNAVOIDABLE CHIN MOOOOOOVE
Battle kid, sonic 06, THE CLAM, all 2million mario makers and a lot of the one offs
“Millennial medium moguls” aaaaaah that’s too cringe
How do these Millennial Medium Moguls... Mmmake Mmmoney? MMMMM???
It's so amusing to watch the news try to cover something that's been on the internet for years and they still have no fucking clue what it is.
"emerging UA-cam trend"? This has been a thing for quite a few years, buddy. Catch up
Tiberius Tigris I like how you had to include white lol
Tiberius Tigris I don't like the way you said "White".
Vili Järvinen I don't like the way he acts like people actually care about the internet as much as they actually do.
How do your parents describe what you do with your friends?
I have earthly no idea"
-Dan Avidan 2016
at least for his dad it probably starts with: "Eehhhhh, Daan..."
You’re average Boomer saying how easy it is to make money on UA-cam when it takes a lot of hard work.
It’s almost pure luck if you get big on here. I’ve heard almost every UA-camr say that. And I don’t doubt it at all.
I'd imagine if the algorhythm wasn't so fucky it would be easier. i'd lean more towards twitch to make a profit
I love how these guys are about 5 years too late.
chipchip i know im a year late but this was made in 2014 and game grumps was created in late 2012 or early 2013 i believe
I found it weird how they focused so much on the money and not on the community aspect of the medium which is kinda the foundation of UA-cam.
Because they are news casters.
That's all they care about.
New Network: What is this "community" you speak of. We've heard rumors that that is were our money comes from but we're not too sure about it.
To be fair, most of the community isn't exactly clean. I don't mean that in a bad sense, but I mean that it's not something the news can actively talk about without mentioning some of the weird and seemingly insulting inside jokes that the community talks about.
That's because game grumps is still a thing BECAUSE of the money.
Arga Wala Thing but the money has been so consistent because they have a reliable community
"Clearly the grumps have nothing to be Grumpy about"
The really sad thing is that Dan and Arin would make a joke like that and I would actually laugh.
Because theyre funnt
fucking funnt
yeah, I can totally picture Arin saying it in that really hammy "sitcom ad" voice of his
Psycho Twilight Sparkle is Psycho!
Was not even a game grumps video, he was talking about his pokemon animation there. lol
Just after 1:00 when Arin was talking about the money, just wanted to point out that at one point Arin and Suzy were REALLY poor.
2:00
+superbuffguy100 yeah I know Arin used to live with his dad a few miles from where I worked. I used to see him working at blockbuster.
He got to buy his first non-exploding car! :D
Local news everywhere is so behind on everything. This has been happening for years.
how does this UA-cam thing work? on this "internet" thing?
how do they receive "clicks"? are youngsters watching these mini movies on this UA-cam?
*KTLA5 ECHHHH*
They're like 8 years late and holyshit jon predicted it
also me
End of the video, guys...
I figured that out later... lmao sorry
Wow, where's everybody coming from? It seems like today, this video just blew up!
It's on the front page brosif
Which one, Reddit? I don't see it there.
It's in autoplay related to GG episodes as well
it came up in my "what to watch next" section.
Yup, it was also in my watch next from a GG video.
"And when everyone's super, no one will be."
Ether Vermilion Incredibles!
I read a quote I recognized and felt the need to point it out. Well done, good sir. I no longer feel alone.
It’s gotta hurt to be the interviewer getting told by a media studies professor that your entire medium will be obsolete in 10 years
I think they focused too much on the money aspect...
Hmm... Almost as if that's all the media cares about!
They want to rattle the bones of the elderly to make them shout out the usual "get a REAL job" bullshit.
It's all for them ratings
They didn't even that Arin's shit at video games.
Isn't it a spit in the elders' face if they point out how this makes money?
CAPITALISM
IKR? If i recall correctly that was the story how he started as an animator, not getting "UA-cam Gold". Back when he was eating out of trash cans.
"Arin Hanson, Dan Avidan, and 7 other nerds!"
3:35 Look at this guys hair, face, voice, suit, everything. It's like he was created in a lab just to be a news anchor.
Juicy Don’t spill his secrets man... Come on...
"Meet the Game Grumps"
*Shows Danny, Brian, Barry and Suzy*
I think one out of five might be a failing grade...
technically all of them are part of the 'grumps' crew. or at least were at the time
"How do you think your parents describe what you do to their friends?"
"I have no earthly idea."
Oh but we fans can take a good guess!
"Eeeeh, my son Danny is ,eh, like Wreck It Ralph!"
You just got to love Dan's dad
Ehhhh, I think he knows that guy PeeweeDidi
Oh god that is way better.
you can find him on spoofy
That one too is better.
Hate that they only care about the money they make
MrJonyish I know right
MrJonyish lies
They mean the news station, not the grumps themselves.
You could see how uncomfortable Arin was
There's no magic 'community' that if they didn't have they would colapse
Was that JonTron bit really part of it? How did they think that would transition well? "KTLA5!! AAAACHOOOO!!!" "and now for the weather....."
Nope!
Diegoisawesome ok, makes sense
THAT WOULD BE THE FUNNIEST IF IT WAS PART OF THE BROADCAST!!!! XD But that was a nice touch to add
I would have lot more respect for the news if they hired an editor who put that in
Illuminati 420Skeleton me too lol
that bit at 2:03 wasnt about game grumps lmao
i watched the interviews on grumpout recently and that was him talking about the time he did animations for MTV
The more you know
have to agree with everyone on how patronizing this is.
Fuck that"
You do realize that was a joke, right? Albeit, a very corny one, but not an attempt to patronize them.
Like King Solomon I said, they only have 3 minutes to report their story, so they're only going to talk about their income and status. They do this because even though people like us know about Game Grumps and what they're about, people in in this type of audience that these News shows cater to don't know them, and still see UA-cam as something pointless and unproductive. This is news to a lot of people that don't use the internet for entertainment (i.e. elderly, middle age, sometimes youth)
Don't you dare bring King Solomon l into this!
bob hope I've found over my years on the internet that only other children will use others being children as a central argument against someone else.
Kelly Wolstenholme
This, but then there's the sad, sad individuals that still want put on a show just to get the extra viewership. I could easily name a few, but in-denial fans would say otherwise. There are, however, some who have come out and said that they did exactly that and that they've become tired of being such a fake person.
"Arin Hansen, Dan Avidan, and 7 other friends..." poor everyone else
"MORE AND MORE COMPANIES ARE INVESTING IN THIS UA-cam BUSINESS."
Me 2017: kek.
Did they just ask a 37 year old man about his parents and what they think about his career and how they would describe it?
Yes
nope.avi
Tom Tinker nope.avidan
Heavy Lobster i see what you did thar :)
ayyyyyy paranatural
During that entire time, I was thinking about "Liquid Game Grumps"
This is sort of condescending. It annoys me that journalists who are getting paid peanuts act like they are above UA-camrs.
Strongside They have to, otherwise people who watch the news constantly (AKA elder people who dont know what a smart phone is) would know the truth and would turn to YT
"Clearly the Grumps have nothing to be grumpy about" that line is so cheesy and I love it.
I love the bit at the end...Jon thinks that KTLA5 News is something to sneeze at. :D
He predicted the goddamned future
Perhaps every time he has a future vision he sneezes. We need to weaponize this.
+Christopher Blair Nosetradamus
+Nickcason Joseph Oooohh that was a good one dude hahahaha
A sneeze to surpass Metal Gear
bring youtube to the tv you mean use a hdmi lol
Hahaha I was thinking the same thing!
I think you meant a bunch of 20 and 30 somethings...and ninja Brian.
He has lived for eons
Brian is eternal.
brian is everlasting
Brian has a PHD.
Newsman: “How do they make money?”
Me: “Literally the same way you do pal...”
1:33 'arin handson, dan avidan, and 7 of their friends'.... wow even the news likes to snub suzy lol
I am Fluffeh i mean considering their label is "game grumps" and only dan and arin technically qualify as game grumps lol
I mean... Arin and Dan are THE game grumps. They also "snubbed" every other person in the office
Jesus Christ, watching clueless oldies talk about UA-camrs like it's some completely new revelation is just soooo cringe-worthy. I was half expecting:
So Dan, what is "The Internet"?
"I have no earthly idea." - Leigh Daniel "Sexbang" Avidan 2016
To be fair Dan is older than the guy talking
So Mr Zuckerberg, where exactly is the book
We gotta take into account the public target who watch those news reports tho
Yes this not BIG NEWS, but, I'm gonna guess the people who actually watched this GameGrumps segment live on TV either:
A) Were fans
B) Had NO idea of who they are and what they do
clearly the grumps have nothing to be grumpy about
The cringe is too real.
aint nuttin to be grumpy about when your're the king of carrot flowers
Until Aaron plays oot.
+Jovic Nemanja I'm saying the same thing about your channel's picture.
i'm sorry, did he say his name was Steve Cooch??
