  • CF Motoring Services Ltd from Newcastle showcased their Honda Goldwing Retriever Motor Bike at the Emergency Services Show at the NEC in Birmingham. The tow bike operates under a special order granted by the Department for Transport after satisfying stringent road testing by the Vehicle Certification Agency and plays a significant role in rapid road clearance. The PR5 was on hand to capture the demonstration - lamentably the PA was actually this inaudible even to bystanders, but you can hear the clarity of sound from the mechanics of the demonstration.

    That is a great idea for car flippers, saving a lot of money on towing and make more profit.

      New is more than 20,000$, but you can find used for much cheaper, with 1983 goldwings currently going for as low as 2000$. Since they are reliable machines, it isn't much of a problem buying that old.

    Ill bet this works great until it comes time to use the brakes. The goldwing will pull a car all day, but motorcycle tires will not stop all of that in any kind of hurry

    Would be nice if they showed him using it without skipping through the video so that you can actually see oh it works. Terrible editing. I don't even mind that u can barely understand the announcer. But they skipped over all the important parts. Like showing how the wheels sit on the dolly

      Not bad news for tow truck drivers since these only move vehicles off the side of busy roads and moving the cars to a safer location to give tow truck drivers a safer working environment at no point would these ever tow vehicles to a garage or the cars final destination often the cars are taken to the nearest motorway services or a less busy road or nearest car park where a tow truck will meet them

      @Smexy_af Рік тому

      No it's not.
      This isn't for long distance towing.
      Thing is that the car doesn't have any air-lines for brakes so the entire braking will come from the bike and those 3 puny wheels, or even worse just the bike.
      In case if a car brake checks him, he gets sandwiched between 2 cars.

    This has to be the most stupid idea i've ever seen, how on earth would that bike stop in an emergency with all that weight pushing it, I've been towing a trailer on my bike for over 15 years, it weighs 150lb fully loaded, there is no way on earth I would ever consider towing a car on a goldwing, it's a disaster waiting to happen.

    While it's cool, it doesn't really have a point. It's the answer to a question nobody asked. The video cut a lot out and it was still longer than a standard tow truck would have taken to do the same job. It might tow alright on flat ground, but up hills is a whole new ballgame. And cars that run and drive rarely need a tow, so is there a winch on that bike? I think you'd just be better off buying a truck you could use in all weather conditions, this is just too limited.

      I realise it's a year since you posted this... I was wondering what the advantage would be and I think the purpose is that even with the big towing set-up stowed, this bike can filter to the front of a traffic jam and then tow the broken-down car away. Here in the south of England our roads are filled to capacity for most of the day so any sort of accident or breakdown causes massive tailbacks very quickly, and in the case of dual carriageways, motorways etc a breakdown truck will be caught in the traffic as it can't just approach from the opposite direction.

    • @elftax
      @elftax 5 років тому +4

      It's designed for highway breakdowns on roads without emergency lanes, the bike can easily cut through traffic and move cars to the nearest service area.

      The engine is a flat 6 1800 cc which develops 125 bhp and 170 Nm of torque so yes it will go up hill no problems.

      Imagine having to jump on the binders with a 4,000 pound car attached. It's not the best stopping performance with just a rider on it.
