I have seen lots of comments below this video with no common sense about China, this Seafood Table in China is very popular in recent years, it's affordable for middle-class families, usually, most of this type of table costs less than 200USD, you can see in this video, there are more than 8 adults and 3 children, one such table serve 11 people not called "waste food", besides, currently in China, most of them knows they need to save foods, so that you can see in China, most people will box the remaining food in restaurants for further eating if they can't consume it fully. Chinese people like fresh seafood, that's why you see them cooked alive in this video, those seafood are used for meals, just like you eating beef in the buffet, Stop hating China if you don't know them!

@@mahatmagandhi5648 this is not about nature, come on. Even vegetarians don't think twice before killing a mosquito. Grass and vegetables we eat r also alive. Trees we cut r also alive. It is about relative sentience level of creatures and levels at which sympathies arise. At times, even ideological differences trump over human sympathy. In aryam thought sentience is one of basic quality of matter, energy and inertia being other two. Sentience causes reproduction of other in yourself, whether it is ideas, emotional state (pain, pleasure) or more basic animal instinct of power/survival. Killing a insect for example causes no emotional reaction, thus your sympathy is not natural but ideological.

That needs to be imported to the US, what a family meal that would make. I can see a high end chinese restaurant reserving one room for this type of meal. Bachelor parties, Golden anniversaries, and the families of the bride and groom get together and meet for the first time party. The list goes on and on. It would make money in the well to do areas.

Most of the seafood is put inside an ice bath or freezer. The cold temperatures put them in a pseudo-hibernation so they are easier to handle, and feel little to no pain when killed/boiled/steamed.

I believe the big steaming banquet originates in Gwei Zhou. Taiwanese modifies it to seafood, and now re-import back to the Mainland.
