They are the best!! Most peeps who don't like them think they are to 'clean'... Or sounds like the theme song from Alf ;) But if you listen closely... THEY ROCK! ;)
There is no other group like them. Their tunes take you on a musical journey. To me by far the most creative musical group on the planet. They are not complete unless Steve Reid is on percussion. I've been a fan since the 80's. I love it and thank you!
I was at this show great concert, two sets, performed Ventura Ca. Ventura pulled in some wondeful acts back in the day,.stil do from time to time. Thanks for the posting
This song and Album was my first intro to the Ripps, when BMG music club sent me (yes...just like everyone else...I never ordered it...) the CD... I never returned it. Great Album... and St. Tropez is the BEST on it.
I then saw them FREE at the WolfDen at Mohegan Sun Casino in CT!!!! Incredible...front row table.... even got Jeff Kashiwa, and Steve Reid 's Autographs!!
THIS IS THE OLD SCHOOL RIPPINGTONS WITH KIM STONES ON BASS TONY MORALES ON DRUMS KEN KASHIWA ON SAXI FORGOT WHO PLAYS PERCUSSION BUT THESE CATS ARE GREAT. THANKS FOR POSTING.
Two of the luckiest people on earth are Russ Freeman and Jeff Kashiwa .. they somehow found each other and would not be the same had they not. They are the Henley/Frey of smooth jazz.
This video recorded live at The Ventura Theatre, Ventura, California on September 25, 1992. We were front row my mullet is gone but the songs remain the same. Loved them then love em now. what a great night and & show!!!! Cheers, DD
Thank you very much theraginpanda for your upload. All the musicians are great, particularly Tony Morales, who has very good grooves and fills, what a taste to play!
Rippingtons are so cool. Been listening to them for many years. Would love to download a full concert in high definition video of them. Could someone please share if you have a nice live concert. Thanks so much.
Rippingtons? More like Ripping tunes, amirite? I remember meeting my first wife at a rippingtons concert, we both heard them for the first time on the Weather Channel and loved them ever since. Well my first wife passed on from a tragic auto accident, but when I listen to the smooth sounds of the Rippingtons it reminds me of the good times that I used to have with her. Also how can Kenny G possibly say bad things about these guys? They are better than he ever was.Jealousy I think.
@HEADBANGING69 Don't know why you called me an idiot. But this song was used during the Weather Channel's Local Forecast at the :57 mark in 1993. I wasn't mocking them. I was 14 at the time and it turned me on to their music at that age.
@Jude1017 Yes indeed :) It was used on the playlist for their long local forecasts at :27 and/or :57 after the hour, from August 1992 to March 1993. I was a fan of a lot of the music used on TWC during that era from 1990 through about 1995 especially.
i LOVE this song...my jazz band plays this in school... I personally like our version better, but this still sounds great. Our version has a lot of trumpet, wich i love, but we still can keep it in control, and we have an alto sax player who i can't decided if he's better or not that the one playing here...and no, i don't know the band...
At least, that who Russ Freeman introduces on the album version of this live performance. however, that album is not from this performance (Although it is from one of the performances in la)...so i guess it might not be him. this performance, while it sounds almost the same as the album version from the Live in LA disc, is slightly different. the solo's are a little changed up
@HEADBANGING69 Ya know, it doesn't matter HOW a person is exposed to good music, just that they ARE. Whether it's via Yosemite Sam, Green Eggs and Ham, or the Weather Channel. Not everyone has a mentor to shape the music in their lives.
im just the opposite, i hate jazz with vocals. I love the instrumentals... so relaxing and soothing. The Rippingtones (as they are really called) specialize in this kind of thing.
I don't see how it degrades the music at all; it might influence one's ability to enjoy the music but that should be a temporary condition. If people couldn't overcome that, after a few years everyone would be tired of everything. Well, more than they already are.
@xnightofragex Bad joss, mate. But....nothing better than good music to remember good times. Re: your comment on Kenny G.... he actually dissed them?? Oh well, just another reason to not like Kenny G. Zzzzzzzzz...... (No disrespect to KG or his fans, I just don't find his music too exciting. He's talented, yes...but not my cup of tea.)
LOVE THEIR MUSIC
Perfection. Russ Freeman , Wow. Jeff Kashiwa, Wow.
this band is the best jazz band i have ever heard. its a fusion of electronic/new age with jazz. Their sound is unique and relaxing.
They are the best!! Most peeps who don't like them think they are to 'clean'... Or sounds like the theme song from Alf ;)

@theraginpanda yeah it might be, but it may not be the one around nowadays, probably an older original version of it.
fantastické
RIP NONNY on bubble guppies all day. 😢💔💔💔
saw David Benoit with Brian Culbertson, they are amazing together.

03:30 Amazing
I'd rather say jazzrock or LA-fusion than just jazz though ;)
@Taraquin could it be a zither or a "recorder"?
Weather Channel 1993!
@Pkchew12 Really?! Y'all had some good taste.
@HEADBANGING69 Ya know, it doesn't matter HOW a person is exposed to good music, just that they ARE. Whether it's via Yosemite Sam, Green Eggs and Ham, or the Weather Channel. Not everyone has a mentor to shape the music in their lives.
@MrTootta

What's Jeff playing at 3:35?
An E.W.I. (electronic wind instrument) aka "lyricon"
@@KJCMuzique Thanks for your information
