YES!!! IT WORKED!! We have a 2019 Outback and the estimated repairs were $2,700. We took it to Diablo Subaru in Walnut Creek for diagnostics and they said it need replacing. We called Subaru of America corporate, opened a case file and they said they would contribute $1,500 towards new audio unit. Nobody mentioned anything about rebooting the audio unit, not even the dealership service repair shop! YOU JUST SAVED US OVER $1,200 THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!
I've been driving my Outback for nearly five years and never had a problem with my head unit until last week. Even though my head unit's symptoms were quite different from what you described, this was a simple and effective solution for me. I can't thank you enough for sharing it.
Thank you so much for posting this! I literally bought my car yesterday! And this morning when the radio froze I almost cried... you and UA-cam are the BEST!
This video helped a lot! My audio just stopped working on radio, bluetooth or carplay. Direction and beep alert still works but no other music. Did this soft reset and music was back! Thank goodness
Thank you so much!! This video was so helpful! I was afraid it wouldn’t work for my 2020 Impreza cause I don’t have a CD player, but I just used the Power and Tune scroll buttons. Life saver!!
I take it no CD player in newer models? I have a UK 67 plate registered Feb 2018 which has a CD player, I'm getting screen stuck with message media loading, after inserting a CD several times, I'll give this a go....
@@jameswyse8250 I hope it works for you too! And yeah, my 2020 base model doesn’t have one, but I think it depends on which trim you have. I think the sport, premium, and/or limited trims might have CD players.
I was thinking the same thing. We just bought a used 2022 July 5 2023. We didn't listen to the radio for the test drive. I guess we wanted to listen for anything the car would be doing. Bought it and got home then I connected Bluetooth to listen to my Spotify playlists. OMG it sucked! Only one speaker worked! The radio was the same thing. The trim is premier with the CD in the console but no button that I could see yet. Guilty of not reading the users manual yet. So I tried the hold and tune buttons and it didn't do exactly the same sort of thing where you see StarLink come up but it worked! That is one kick ass Harmon Kardon system! Boom! Thank you so much!
Yep worked like a champ. Volume adjustments were delayed. You could turn it up to 10 and it would take a few seconds for it to actually turn up. This resolved the issue.
I was on a call in Car Play and the person hung up and then Car Play shut down. The radio thought I was still on the call and it was locked up. This reset my radio and the Car Play works fine now! Thank You!!
Well i need to tell people what are the causes and reasons why i am doing this. Imagine driving to dealership and leaving the car there for the day and catching a cab back home and about $200 for the labour orrrr 2 minutes on UA-cam for free. You welcome mate
I just had the same problem with my brand new 2022 Ascent and was mortified. Thanks so much for your simple solution. It worked purposely. First time that I had to reboot a car system.
THANK YOU! This fixed my 2017 forester issue. No Sirius xm audio and I have an active subscription. Had my car serviced yesterday and they disconnected the battery. Works now!
thank you so much! i was changing the radio and it got stuck. my dad started yelling at me and i was so scared i broke his radio. thank god this fixed it. you’re awesome!
Thank you so much for this video! This worked to fix my radio. I have the same exact radio setup as yours, I had this problem in my Subaru crosstrek this morning and it was driving me mad! Awesome easy fix and now I don’t have to go to the dealer to have them look at it. 👍🏼
This worked! I have a 2020 Subaru Wrx and apple car play stopped working all of a sudden. I tried the method you provided in this video and like you said to restart your phone and do the soft reset on the radio and it worked! Thanks so much!
Thank you SO much for posting this. We recently bought a used 2016 Subaru Forester. I'm fairly good with electronics, but I could NOT figure out how to get the Starlink system to work properly. I even bought the manual from eBay (I'd also downloaded the PDF), but it didn't help. Two reboots per your instructions + pressing the Audio/Tune button (on the right in my car), and suddenly the missing icons appeared and the radio actually played. Much appreciated!
I’m not sure how many people have told you this But this video was so FREAKING HELPFUL!!! I had no idea why my CD wasn’t playing 😫😫😫 n knew I had to restart it somehow . All the videos I was watching was about like replacing my system but I new the fix had to be simpler than that n it was!!! Now my CDs are playing n I am very grateful for you making this video!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Thank you so much! This morning I was panic because my forester touch screen freeze… I found your video and I solved my problem easily.😊 Thank you so much again!
If this doesn't work for you, here's what worked for me (2019 Forester Touring). There's two packs of wire that are plugged into the amp under the passenger seat. Disconnect them (or if you can tell which one has the power wire, just disconnect that one) for 30 seconds to a minute then reconnect them. That's it. Start up your car and your audio should be working again. I tried several other methods, including this video, and only disconnecting power to the amp worked. Hope this helps
Thank you, extremely helpful! My screen just wasn’t working at all. Every time I tried pressing anything it wouldn’t respond and this fixed it💪🏽 thanks g
I have a Subaru Crosstrek 2015 holding the power button volume button and auto-tune button at the same time did not reset my unit however turning airplane mode on and off on my cell phone did fix the problem so thank you so much
Was having super irritating audio issues, where only the back right speaker would work in my 19 outback 3.6r touring....this automatically makes it better!! Thank you so much for this video. Will absolutely do this next time there is an issue.
I tried this on my 2021 crosstrek.. Had a similar issue w/ the no volume! I did the soft reset twice and I still have no volume. Any tips for what I should do next? This was a great video, I guess I'm just the one person who it didn't work for! Lol
This didn’t work on 3-29-2022 for my Subaru 2019 Crosstrek. I tried it multiple times with no luck. Everything seemed to work but still no audio. I was able to connect to my wifi and even tried downloading updates. Firmware updated to Rel_UA.20.38.70. Still no audio. Tried the soft reboot a few more times with no luck. I was almost ready to call the dealer but thought I would try disconnecting the car battery. I disconnected for about 30 seconds and reconnected and that FIXED it. I now have audio. Hope it sticks. I notice I’m getting a message “the software failed to update, try again” . When I select yes, I get a message that software is up to date. When I look at the system information, I see the software version but no version for the Navi Database Version is blank and before it had something listed. Map seems to work so not sure what that is all about. Anyway, thanks for posting and if anyone says that it didn’t work and asks for a next step. You might want to let them know to try disconnecting the car battery and reconnecting it.
Thanks for the info bud. I'll definitely let people know. Seems like you have a dodgy unit, because it's doesn't have the firmware number or anything. Glad you managed to fix it.
My "new" Subaru is a 2010 Forester. No fancy screen or bluetooth stuff. I just want my single CD player to work, it's doing the same thing. I have the same buttons, hope this works.
Excellent video. Thanks for your help. Where did you learn it this? I can't find any official source saying this is a feature (though it obviously is).
You are right it is no where available. I just tried different combinations of switches until i found it. Because most systems would have a soft reset ability built in.
I love you! Thank you so much. My Outback 2018 just muted all audio randomly and had pure bass rattling the doors. Had no idea what the hell happened but this fixed it
Thanks so much! Mine was only beeping but no other sound. Even turning the car off entirely didn't work. I'd just had the car detailed so maybe the screen doesn't like being cleaned. Turns out I also needed a software update.
Just got a 2019 Impreza a few days ago and randomly sound will only come out of one speaker. Volume controll does nothing to adjust it, eventually it seems to works itself out but rather annoying. Did this solution fix the problem?
I am going to have to give this a try on my 2011 Outback w/ Harmon Kardon & Nav. Last night, no sound from any source (didn't try calls but the Bluetooth music wouldn't sound either). Searched for a fuse and didn't want to pull the stereo fuse until nothing else worked. I hope this does the trick!
@@robinkhaira1 As one (including myself) would suspect, this does not work for the 2010 - 2014 Outback. I'll have to try the continuity function of my Fluke multimeter to try and see which of the 3 interior fuses may be to blame (rather than remove each & possibly lose all my Nav, Bluetooth, EQ & Radio station settings). It was worth a try at least!
I have an outback that is a 2015 in the head unit look slightly different. However, it’s got all three buttons used in the video but they don’t do anything. Any suggestions?
Try different combinations mate. I have heard some people had success on different models. Try just holding power and tune buttons for solid 30 sec or so and see how you go
Would this reset work on 2013 Subaru outback also? My Audio is working but BT stopped working. So I cannot connect the audio system to my phone and use hands-free calling. Please reply. Thank you.
i am not so sure about that Mala, i don't have access to 2013 car or i would have tried a solution for you. one thing you can try is, Remove the connection from the battery and try to start the car ( of course it won't start, but that is just to ensure we use any stored charge). then connect the battery again and see if you radio resets. let me know if it works :)
This will also work if your audio is stuck on maps when you connected your phone your rear speakers will work but if you try to control the volume it won't do anything follow his steps and you will fix it
I have a 2020 Ascent and there is no sound when volume is adjusted. I have pressed eject, power, and tuner buttons and booted the system, but it just comes back the same. Silence. Does this method apply to all late model Subaru's?
Some people have mentioned success with different models but using the same or similar button combination. Try a few combinations to see if that helps.
Hello. I have purchased a unit like this to upgrade my stock one on 18 crosstrek base. When I connected it all everything seemed to work except volume control. Then adjusting the volume either with steering controls or the knob itself, you can see the volume setting changes on the screen but the actual loudness does not. Connected to wifi, updated the firmware successfully. Tried to do the soft reset and that didnt help. Did the fascotry reset and also disconnected the battery for 15 min, nothing helps. Any idea? Thanks.

i am not so sure about that Mala, i don't have access to 2013 car or i would have tried a solution for you. one thing you can try is, Remove the connection from the battery and try to start the car ( of course it won't start, but that is just to ensure we use any stored charge). then connect the battery again and see if you radio resets. let me know if it works :)

Any idea? Thanks.
Not sure mate. Have you seen if the speakers are connected properly?
@RK1 Hi. Yes everything works when I connect the factory unit back in.
