The Super Joy brought my godbrother and I lots of memories back when we were poor kids lol. We stayed up all night playing those games on that thing until the wire got a shortage in it and kept resetting to the main menu. Then it became a contest to see how long we could play before the game messed up lol. We blamed it on the “wire guys” - some imaginary job where guys control the wiring to EVERY electronic in the city (mind you we were in Houston) and we thought they were disconnecting our game from afar just to mess with us. Awesome times. I even bought one years later as a rich champ just to relive the memories.
Did anyone really expect anything decent from Soulja boy...like ever? I mean at least there's no debate over whether these consoles are good or bad like his 1 song.
My biggest thing is can't the actual developers (Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, etc) sue them and get them shut down indefinitely??? There's no way these knock-offs are able to ship massively
There’s so many developers that do it, it’s hard to actually sue all those people, and they can’t just tell all those developers to stop, but if one gets too big they would most likely be target very quick
Wait.. No Dendy? The entirety of Eastern Europe has been playing NES/Famicom knock-off consoles with different names. The most famous one was Russian Dendy based on Micro-Genius consoles that are Famicom copies.
(2:24) I remember browsing a shop in the early 2010s that sold cheap household products, and they even sold that, with a demo device (that was connected to a small grey 14" CRT TV) having its fake N64 joystick broken off. At the time, the only Famiclone games I played were on Chinese ODM portable DVD players, so I didn't know the connector on the back of the main controller was for Famicom cartridges.
It wouldn't have been out of the question for people from my generation and older to have gotten this sort of stuff as a present. I was lucky that my parents would look for advice from more knowledgeable people in markets where they weren't very well informed about. But if they weren't then it would have totally been possible. Considering I paid for half of the internet subscription from age 15 to 18, just so we would get cable instead of dial-up. It really showed the typical tech knowledge and the level of importance with my parents (especially my mom). Dial-up was pay per minute but would usually only cost about €10 a month and the cheapest cable was €20 a month. I of course got my money back with some major pirating.
I got one of those rip off called Ali-com back when I was six years old. The exterior looked like old version of PS1 but it ran several built-in NES. Surprisingly tho, it could run the games pretty smoothly.
Whats sucks is I always wanted a minines but there's a lot fake ones look exactly like the original with really bad games I had to find a way to distinguish between them & thanks to UA-cam reviews I found that original have only 30 games while the fake one has like 300 I end up finding a original one in a pawnshop I love it
I like the reference for Soulja Boy "guess who this man was trying to scam....Youuuuu" a classic way to reference him. It's just kind of sad it's not a better thing to be referenced for 🤣🤣🤣🤣
You know what I did have the PolyStation once, it has a bunch of preload NES and Atari games and some knockoff games, a cartridge slot, and a lcd game on the consoles itself. The LCD part lasted the longest ironically, got me hook on Tetris, Bricks, and Snake.

I actually own three console bootlegs myself, although in my case they are all handhelds. I bought all of them at a flea market-esque event. DVTech Pocket - Russian GBA SP rip-off that has GBA games installed. Can also play actual GBA cartridges. P2P: Digital Games System - PSP rip-off that plays Genesis/Mega Drive games. FC Pocket - Has built-in Famicom games.
I have two handheld game devices, one of which is a knockoff of the PSP, called the X6. The other is called a D-CAT 16. The thing about the knockoffs is that even if they claim to have hundreds or thousands of games, many are emulated games that have duplicated game levels. They can say there's that many games because all of these duplicates have a different name.
Treamcast isn't a ripoff but a knockoff. It's pretty hotly pursued by Dreamcast fans as it has all the functionality of the original plus a built-in screen.
The biggest console scam was Dendi. Russia marketed NES for a few weeks in those times and then said "fuck it, let's have our own crap" and started to sell a pirated version of NES called Dendi. All the games from NES were also pirated and a lot of them had difficulty spikes if that was the case. I still remember how unforgiving Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game was with ordinary levels being hard as hell just to get to the immortal final boss with no chance of winning.

I came across a red Power Player Super Joy 3. It had a bunch of pirated NES titles preinstalled. Actually, some "games" were really just individual levels of other games. Looking back on it, I was sure it was one of those Chinese hack consoles. Maybe that Australian morning show on Channel 10 were selling Bootleg games long before Soulja Boy.
