Wholeheartedly agree with everything said. Making the recent choice to homeschool and using TGATB totally opened my eyes. I am so happy to have come upon your videos and others that have helped shine some light. Thank you for your sweet spirit and sharing wonderful truths. I love seeing how this works for your family ❤️ I am so excited to witness the change in my own children. My 1st grader and upcoming Pre-K'er would love these books!😊

I'd like to encourage us to extend this monitoring of books, music, TV shows, and relationships past our kids to ourselves. Not only is it important to model discernment, but outside influences are just as impactful to our hearts and minds as theirs. Don't let your guard down for yourself just because you're Mama. Choose wise, Christ-glorifying and Christ-pleasing content for yourself as well!

Amen to that! We as mamas really need to dress as we ought to be a great testimony to our kids. Modesty has been thrown out the window these days. I love that song "be careful little ears what you hear, be careful little eyes what you see.....".

Yes, yes, yes... It's so important. I heard someone once say, "When others tell me that my homeschool kids are different, I say 'Yes, that's the point.'" I don't want to raise the kids like the world. So I have to be very discerning and aware of what they consume. Not to insult them, but rather to raise them until they are strong enough to face it on their own.

When I was a Freshman in public school, I was assigned a book to read as part of an English class that included profanity and sexual assault. I didn't know this when I brought the book home, but my mom wanted to read the book before I did, and after reading it she insisted that I not read that book. My parents then ended up fighting the school board (it was even in the newspaper) because they demanded that I not be required to read it. None of us expected such push-back, and even friends and members of our church called my parents horrible names and accused them of censorship. The thing was, they weren't trying to keep everyone's kids from reading the book- they just wanted there to be an option for kids to read if they/their parents objected to the content in a book required for English classes. I ended up being offered an alternative, even though the school insisted on still keeping the book in their curriculum (the biggest argument was that Freshmen were "mature enough" for the subject matter). It was such a challenging experience for all of us, but I am really glad that my parents cared enough to go through so much.
Thank you for being a mama who also fights for her kids to be surrounded by goodness.

Sounds like you had awesome parents. 👍 That's insane. My parents had to go thru a bit of the same kind of thing with me in a private, secular school, and I agreed with them at the time... But now I look back and I'm even more grateful for them as parents. ❤️

I have only been homeschooling my kids since January of 2019 just in this short while I have been using the good and beautiful, my oldest who has always struggled in reading has skipped 3 whole grade levels in reading and is now reading at her grade level. Their books uplift and encourage you. They are beautifully written and have great moral lessons. Since using their books and curriculum my children have completely made an extreme change in their attitudes not only towards each other but in a whole. When they write stories the difference is very clear, even down to the way they discuss things that have went on through the day. I have to say I am at aw, and when as a parent you see that much of a difference in such a great way, it is amazing.

There is so much that pulls our kids to negativity in media! Bringing good books into our homes and into their lives makes an immediate difference in their positivity. I've seen it so quickly in my kids when I've said no to negative content and replaced it with something more uplifting!

I couldn’t agree more! It’s counterproductive if I homeschool to keep unwanted thoughts, talk, behavior, etc. away from my son yet let him watch, play, read or listen to things that go against our beliefs as Christians. Thank you for this reminder to keep on guard for the sake of our children’s hearts and minds! Fingers crossed that we win the box set for my new lover of reading first grader!

So thankful for mamas like you who are unafraid to take a stand against the darkness of our fallen world. It is so encouraging to discover other families who are making these choices as well. I find that even among our church and homeschooling friends that we are definitely in the minority. I often hear "Well, at least they are reading!" But,we really need to understand the power of these influences not only on our children but even ourselves! Let us not grow weary of doing good!

It’s definitely a blessing to have eyes that see and not to be blinded by the adversary. Hopefully your inspirational videos will open others eyes to see as we do as well. It takes a whole lot of extra effort on the parents to protect our children these days but like you said we CAN do it. Thank you for this💕

Videos like these are my greatest motivation to keep doing what we are doing. My husband and I are very strict as to what the kiddos are aloud to watch and read. Most of the time when we are visiting someone or we have company over and the tv goes on there’s a bunch of silence and stares because everyone pretty much thinks we’re crazy! No one has ever told us but the tension is there. I’ve found refuge, hope and lots of inspiration through many homeschooling mom’s like yourself. Thank you!

You are such a role model to look up to. I value so much of what you say and suggest and have actually been going through a challenge of limiting of what my child can watch. Their attitudes lately have been horrible and selfish and I noticed that they shows they watch are a reflection of this. Thank you for your words and encouragement to not give up on the battle with the enemy because our kids do deserve better.

We recently got a Junie B Jones book on tape and after a few minutes of listening I told my kids we had to take it back to the library. I don’t want my kids thinking the words/phrases “stupid” “dumb” “big, fat, meanie” are appropriate to say. We have to be diligent as parents to guard our children from things that don’t line up with our beliefs. Thank you so much for being brave and sharing this with us!

I love everything about this video! I have always considered myself to be extra careful when it comes to our kids exposure to content and I love that it is being talked about in such a positive way. My oldest (5) used to question why their cousins have TVs in their rooms or get to read certain books. Fast forward to this past holiday season and she was the one who asked that the TV be turned off because she didn't like the way a character was treating another. The power of choice for our kids is amazing when you see it come full circle first hand.

Yes yes 1000% yes! ❤️👍🏻. I know firsthand from my own life the influence that electronic media and books can have. I became addicted to soap operas at a young age because my mom watched them. Not only did I become a very promiscuous teen and young adult, but binge watching soap operas led to a struggle with laziness that I unfortunately still struggle with today. I have been very vigilant to protect my girls’ eyes and ears from inappropriate things since the day they were born. God has been so gracious to me in healing me from my sinful past and I am forever thankful that I have the freedom here in Texas to homeschool my children. 🙏❤️

I have struggled with good reading material in my own homeschool journey. I have a 7 year old and a 5 year old. I had a couple of concerning experiences with books and media before. Even trips to the library were unfruitful. Before finding your channel and also finding The Good and the Beautiful through your channel, I just stuck to their readers. I would even just make up stories, using words they could read. I remember reading them Bible stories and letting them read the words they could sound out or the ones that were sight words. I almost felt hopeless while browsing my local bookstore. I’m so thankful to God and to TGTB and to you for sharing your sources.

I also have 4 kids and we just started homeschooling the oldest 2 this year (the younger 2 are not yet school age). We switched to TGTB science mid semester and I am so glad we did! We just read our first books from TGTB library a few weeks ago and my kids absolutely loved them! Both the books and the videos that go along with the unit are so well done! Thank you for sharing your experiences and what has worked for your family. Your videos have been so helpful for a homeschooling newbie and are a large part of why we gave TGTB a try!

Thank you! We diligently monitor tv and music, but haven’t really considered books. Thanks for being willing to make a stand on this.

Yes I was shocked at some of the “popular” books in our house and they all got thrown out and I’m so glad I’m aware of this now...thanks for sharing.

Thank you! I have a 12 year old, and your daughter reminds me a lot of her. She has really been pressuring my husband and I to watch more mature movies and shows and I have really been wavering and feeling like we should relax our standards. But now I am more compelled to protect her innocence, even when she is chomping at the bit for more. I was feeling alone in these convictions. So thanks for the encouragement!

Love this video. So important! Our kids are sponges and it's easy to think that they don't even understand some stuff but I think they understand more than we know ❤️

I agree 100%!! It is amazing to have a source that is trustworthy with similar values as my family. We say no to many books that many kids are reading these days!

Yes yes and yes....We have made lots of changes in our home as our children are getting older and more aware of the influences around them. I have been very interested in TGATB since I first came across your channel. I am praying and considering switching over my little two maybe after Christmas...waiting to see the new level 2! Would love the beginner books for my K and 2nd grader!

I appreciate this! Many of the family and friends I am around look at this kind of filtering as sheltering them in a negative way, it's so nice to hear someone speak to how it is best for the kids! Would love that boxed set :)

We love TGTB!! My daughter just started reading the first box set and I’m working on building up our library of good and beautiful books. Love your thoughts on this topic. Your videos are much needed encouragement for me to keep homeschooling despite the constant questioning and opposition from family. Thank you for the time you put into your channel 💕

Yes!!! We are homeschooling this year for so many reason's. I went through our books a couple months ago and purged a lot. My girls went through them again yesterday and I have at least 30 more books to remove from the house. It is time to buckle down and protect/teach our children.

Thanks for this video! I appreciate your honesty and boldness!! We are very strict with our kids as well bc we want better for them! It’s hard when other family members don’t get it. But we’ll be accountable to the Lord! My kindergartener would love that set!! ☺️❤️
