- If you own a Mazda BT50 or Ford Ranger this could happen to you, it seems to be a common problem.
My 2012 BT50 was blowing lots of black exhaust smoke, running hot and going into Limp mode with a Powertrain Fault. The fault code was P00BD, which seemed to indicate a fault with the MAF Sensor, but turned out to be the a tear in the intercooler pipe.
It never hurts to carry afew hose clamps and some silicone tape incase this happens to you. Hopefully it doesn't 👍
Literally had no idea what was going on, watched your video, walked straight out to the car and looked at the hose and there she was a crack the same size as yours in EXACTLY the same spot. Thank you man. We purchased the same hose 30 minutes later.
SAVED MY BACON! I took the bloody truck to the mechanic 3 times. All 3 times was told "cleared the computer, should fix itself" - they didn't even try to identify the code. After Googling like a maniac, I found this video. Groped under the hood & wouldn't ya know, bloody split in the hose! Ordered a part & fixed it for less than $50. Huge kudos, Mate! B #agirlcalledB
Wow, talk about great timing. My Ranger's been running sluggish, blowing smoke, chewing more fuel. Not limp mode but not its usual self. Scangauge showed the same code as "pending", googled it. Bingo! Found your video, just now checked the utes hose & a sure enough its got a split. New hose will go on tomorrow. thanks for putting this out there. saved me a, no doubt, expensive visit to a dealer.
Legend !!! I had this problem happen yesterday after a little bit of investigation and coming across this video, problem solved, used tape to secure until I got my new hose, now have my new hose and she's driving beautifully now
Where did order your new hose
Thanks for the tip. That was also my problem.
Legend. Intercooler hose had a split on my 2012 BT-50. SOS tape applied and waiting for part from Plazmaman. Much appreciated.
Thanks mate.. more help then 2 mechanics I went to.. fixed it and cleared the engine light for $200.. my bt 50 was going into limp mode and blowing a tonne of smoke thanks again😊
Hey mate just wanted to say thankyou so much for this! Mechanics missed it in the service 3 days ago, but I just checked and my pipe has an almost identical split on my 2012 bt50. Legend mate!
2015 Ranger, spotted the crack (outside of the pipe) before watching the video but this confirmed it for me. Thanks mate
Thank you for this video, I spent a stupid amount of money at a Ford mechanic who couldn't fix this problem. It turns out my ford had a cracked intercooler which i replaced (quite easy to do) but this video sent me in the right direction. this is also a very common problme with these model fords.
Wow, this is interesting. You'd think with all the Rangers/bt50s we service at the workshop we would of seen this problem but that's the first time I've heard of it. Sweet that's something I'll keep my eye on when we check them over.
Man that data scanner has been a life saver for you a few times now!!! And good choice in replacement pipe too. Plasmaman are an epic product. That's what I got on the nav 👍😎
Yep - I had the same issue. Smoke and loss of power, with power train light going on. Split on hose, easy fix. Thanks for the upload mate !
Had the same thing happen to me a few months ago on a 2014 BT50, replaced it with the same Plasmaman one, so far so good.
Thanks mate. Exactly what my Ranger was doing. Luckily my rip was right next to the hoseclip, so I just cut 1cm off.
Nice. 👍👍👍
Here in Malaysia, we used stainless steel intercooler pipe@ hose as it will last longer.
Thanks for the info. I've had the same issue with my BT50 but discovered it was the intercooler was blown in the middle at one of its tubes. I steal epoxy it and my problem was fixed lol
I don’t have a Mazda, I don’t even have a diesel but I enjoy your uploads mate, really good content
Been there done that. My Ranger had done about 135,000 K when the hose went. Couldn't sort it out until I bought an OBD2 anyliser. Replaced with a silicon hose and all good. Also MAF replaced at same time. All parts purchased on Ebay and all going well now. One word of advice is to use super clamps on silicon hose as it is not as grippy as rubber. Ordinary clamps can slip off if not done up super tight.
Had the same problem without even knowing it, THANK YOU!!!!
Awesome mate . Thx for that . 2012 ranger , done 200k, gone to limp mode every time driving over 85 with the orange cog wheel light on the dash , sprayed water over the hose and straight away I saw the water was bursting beneath the hose indicating a hair line cracks. Bought the same silicon hose recommended on the video, used Toledo hook tool to release the old hose that was stucked, 15 minutes later I drove the ranger in a freeway for 100k/h and problems sorted, Thank heaps !!
Awesome stuff mike! My god mate the old youtube algorithim must have picked you up brother! 1900 to 15000 subs in a couple weeks! Killing it my man! 👍👍👍
Thanks for the heads up. Good information.
Thanks mate, helped me out with a similar issue. Mine ended up being the intercooler.
My Ford Ranger is 2017 and it still has the same rubbish quality hose just a bit over 100,000 kilometres and mines cracked also. They are idiots for the money that you pay for the car. Thanks for your video
Thanks for this. Just used this to get myself out of trouble. Great content
Yeah had exactly same problem in my 2014 BT50. Had it replaced by Mazda at my expense 🤬. Have now bought a silicon aftermarket unit from Plazmaman which I will keep in car for replacement when the new one dies, which I am certain it will. Is a very common problem going by all the usual forums
Michael Sanders the guy who organised the repair said the hose was a fair wear and tear item so I’m inclined to think that there has been no improvements made 🤑🤑🤑
Got bt50 and it stated doing the same thing cheer man 👍
Absolute legend, same thing for myself 2012 Ford ranger, power train light had come up on my dash lost all boost and entered limp mode had me fucked…exact same size hole and spot thanks for the video helped with diagnosis
Hope you're ok brother!!
Yea awesome stuff brother.
You'd think after designing vehicles for over a 100 years, this issue would be solved. I have a Ford Ranger and noticed the same bloody thing. Awesome videos matey. Thanks heaps for all the tips.
Thanks for the heads up mate. Great vid as always. 😉
Cheers 🍻
Great vid mate, jump on the bt50 pages on facebook plenty of info on common issues and solutions, this issue comes up once a week! Also i had a stick go through my O2 sensor wire on exhaust on a low range track in Augusta, put car into limp mode, combination of mates and the bt50 page got us out of the shit. Just one to look out for.
Thanks for the video, helped me find a similar split in my '13 BT50.
Thanks for the tips. Repair manual and EDS. Silicone tape, hose clamps.
Silicone tape and clamps. Great idea, ill use that one
Thanks for this. .I'll have to watch out for this problem, I own a Mazda BT50 4x2 MT dual cab and it will turn 6 years this July and problems usually appear after the 5 year warranty 😥
It happened to me too mate, the only thing issue in 200,500k 🤘
Michael Sanders 250,000 sorry mate , I’m just getting ready to do a lap right around aus with my dog mate in a couple of months haha wish me luck !!
Yep happened to my 2013 Ranger. Ford dealer was pretty quick to charge me $220 to replace, even though I had an extended warranty. They claimed that the inter-cooler hose is a consumable and extended warranty doesn't cover consumables
Thanks mate, great advice. will change mine now. Cheers
I put a Plazmaman cold pipe on, mate went through two standard tubes and now has a Plasmaman cold tube on and no issues. Hope to put one of their intercoolers in soon too
You are a legend. Fixed!!!
Shoulda went polished alloy for the extra wank factor 😂 serious note you might find it a touch more responsive as the factory rubber hose tends to balloon creating lag 👍🏼
Awesome - exactly the same issue here 2012 PX Ranger $90 done and dusted
@SeekAdventure legend mate! Found a crack in mine in the same spot.
Same problem mate, helped heaps cheers
Get in and change the hotside to a direct pipe while you’re at it. Eliminate the chance of it happening over that side and also reduces the massive factory piping to a smaller direct setup...
Forefront industries do a quality replacement in either aluminium or silicon....
That stretchy repair tape can save your butt big time, always have a roll in the boot of my car.
I wouldn't be too worried, rubber pipes don't last forever. 7 years isn't bad.
Interesting. I was told it can be any volume. eg. EGR valve staying closed. I went to valve at this stage it was jammed closed. Now I dice wether the solenoid is stuffed because nothing has changed but yet it has only coded POOBD same symptoms as yours. Maybe it's both.
Common problem on the Jeep Libertys too. My turbo to intercooler hose blew at 72K miles.
Same issue with with ford ranger 3.2 2014 model went into limp mode today
Cheers mate same split 2013 bt50
Another good way to repair tears in couplings or hoses, any tape, and zip ties. Nice bush fix though
Mine split as well! Just ordered a new Plazmaman one like yours. How is it holding up with the Plazmaman one mate?
Jeeps 2012 have the same problem with the inter cooler pipes. Silicon replacements cost $300
just replaced mine yesterday exactly the same split, took it to the mazda dealer he new straight away $250 for the replacement pipe, bloody rip off
rich nich ford sell them for less then $100 bud! And the new replacement part has been updated with a thicker hose with more internal wire to give it more strength.
Exact same problem lol. Thanks mate
Yes i have same problem yesterday. I replace this pipe, i use new aluminium paip.
how ? is ok until now?
Hi! I starting to notice oil on the same hose, is of course tip in some place, I already bought the replacement but is normal to have oil in there? Cheers from Chile!
Hi mate, have you ever had problems with your egr valve on BT50’s or Rangers .
Another one - mines done the same; bought the same silicone hose too!
Hi I have a mazda bt50 AN A POWER TRAIN LIGHT came I clean the tps sensor and check for leaks and nothing clear the codes and the light still came back on any suggestions
I was wondering if there is a specific Torque when tie the Stainless Steel Clamp/collar..
Hi
I Have 2012 Ranger 220000ks
Found split intercooler hose and replaced it
Still have same light coming on
Cleaned MAF sensor with specified Cleaner
Everything looks normal
It’s blowing more smoke than usual and sluggish at low speed
I have no idea what’s wrong
Any ideas thanks
I replaced all my inlet hoses with silicone hoses much stronger and more heat stable
Who did you use for that mate and how much?
@@bravocharlie777 just bought the hose at local supplier and changed them myself, only very basic skills required
I have had P00BD code for 4 months I’ve got 3” exhaust, upgraded intercooler and dynotune on my first ranger, no splits in hose (smoke tested) and no idea what issue is. Only happens 3/4 throttle uphills at 80kmph+ (eg heavy torque load) otherwise it’s fine. Tuner has changed tune to allow higher torque threshold but still happens. I’ve changed MAF sensor still does it. Stumped.
Has the issue been resolved? I'm having the same issue right now. I've changed the intercooler hose to a stainless steel piping yet the P00BD code still appears but simply turning it off then turning it back on will make the check engine light disappear and the car becomes normal again. This issue would randomly appear when it's cold outside.
@@OlsenH6 yeah, turned out to be the K&N filter I put in, I oiled it as you are supposed to do, the oil residue under heavy acceleration must have got onto the MAF sensor causing the code to get thrown, changing back to standard filter and cleaning MAF sensor with MAF cleaner several times ultimately sorted it
@@chimeranzl9147 Damnn so I am using K&N air filter too and I suppose it would be the same case. Thank you for replying.
Hi there my 3.2 ranger Los of power when pulling a trailer or go up hill vehicle only no warning lights boost pipe fine 🤔
My Mazda BT50 has no engine power when you're shifting to 3rd gear and onwards..did fault findings and found that when you rev the engine, the suction hose after the intercooler to the intake manifold starts to shrink or squeezes in...what's the probable cause.. please help.ta.
Alright BT/50 and ranger owners go here ...forefront industries in N.S.W and your troubles will be over..I've had the solid pipes on my bt for over 2 years with no problems. His prices are also reasonable
Thanks for sharing, My ford ranger has code P0048 and its on a limp mode (turbocharger booster) help please
Grat video, thanks
my ford ranger 2.2 is having this problem now, powertrain warning comes on after 5mins warmed up. and its going limp mode, doesnt feel the turbo running at all, max speed 60-70km/h full acceleration. It's been a week already and I drove for about ~100km with this problem, will it harm my enginer/ turbo/ gear before it's fix?
Can you give us an update as to what happened/what you had to do to fix?
Hey mate, enjoy your channel. Haven’t seen any posts for awhile? You still in the UA-cam game?
CHECK YOUR CATALYTIC CONVERTER FOR BLOCKAGES. This will also significantly restrict power.
Not related to this video at all
happened in my bt-50 2.2cc , from malaysia. no recall from mazda . can we all sue them ?
Thank u so much man
Hi, ive just checked my pipe & there's no cracks? But light comes on sometimes 2015 model
Good that you where able to get going again mate .
There is something to be said for the simple NA petrol engine imo .
Diesel does have its good points , but a nice long stroke NA petrol is pretty nice imo.
I’m having the limp mod prob at the moment. There’s a double skin on the intercoler pipe . Do u think still be problem
Which do you prefer between a metal pipe and a silicone pipe?
Any fault lights come on?
Nothing a cheap OBD couldn't diagnose. This will happen to any turbo petrol or diesel. It's not a Mazda or Ford specific issue. Error code is P00BD, MAF sensor circuit range. . It'll be in your obd error codes and you should clear it now it's fixed. OBD AU's make a cheap Bluetooth module thatll make life easy for you.
Mate know anything about a trickling water sound behind dash ?
EDS scanner bought from? haynes manuals are pretty good or atleast they were until they were bought out
the plazmaman is that the cold side or the hot side?
First of all you have a truck...NOT A CAR...However i had the same location on the hose crack also.had a different symptom ...smelly exhaust...along with limp mode and hot engine..replaced and now back to normal....Its a ford and mazda issue for sure.
I hope you’ll reply
Well I have Ford Everest 2.5L BT50 engine
So the problem is black smoke (more than yours)
No power/acceleration...after 2000 RPM I can feel the turbo boost and then it accelerates but puffs a lot of black smoke
Ford Guys are not being able to diagnose the problem I’ve already spent a lot of money to them but found no solution yet
All I know is there’s no boost leak and no engine code
Cleaned all the intake manifold and replaced the EGR valve
Now I’m frustrated with it the problem is still there and I can’t drive on hills due to slow acceleration
It’s been 2 years I’ve not found the solution yet
Please help me I beg you anyone please help me. this vehicle means a lot to me
How fix limp mode..my ford ranger trekker 2009..
You would think there wouldn’t be any pressure in the hose because it should be at vacuum at idle, that is weird
Diesels don't have a throttle valve and so virtually are never at vacuum. Modern turbos boost slightly even at idle.
Yeah had that problem
My Mazda BT50 3000d if it shows a engine light it reduces power
I just got the same problem exact same spot and same size lol
0:09 same 🙌🏻😂
Need Help my 2008 diesel ford ranger speed only reach 110
That's rad watching someone else break down... Should have bought a blue hose or a Nissan...Hows your cheap ass solar panel going or isn't it going...Cheers...👌...
How do you find the Haynes workshop manual?
Jay Woo selected auto parts stores like super cheap and repco usually have them
Same problem on 15 ranger
Aftercooler
It's not a good idea to have anything permanently plugged into the OBD port.
Thank you fucksakes!
Hey mate, what's that monitor you have? Is it live? My truck is playing up but never any faults.. was wondering if I get a "live" display like yours I may catch something while its actually happening?
