Far to many specs/ classes have multiple buffs and debuffs that have to be kept up at all times, or your output drops off drastically. So, you not only have to keep a basic rotation going, you have another set of debuff/ buff rotations that have to be managed on top of managing enemy mechanics, which is another set of timed attacks you have to track. It's just not fun. Edit. The other key factor contributing towards convoluted gameplay is that the buffs/ debuffs that need to have 100% uptime also proc multiple other abilities. Consequently, when you fall out of your rotation, you lose 10-30% in damage or healing output. This is relevant to encounter times and phases across the game from raiding to mythic +.
One thing Blizz could do that would dramatically improve no addon usage is a built-in buff priority system akin to Weakauras. You click a buff you have and a drop down menu appears that allows you to set it as priority. Then those priority buffs have their own window and essentially act as weakauras and you can move the window around via edit mode.
Great video, honestly the thing i'm mostly interested in is the physiological feeling of not having a dps meter. Not knowing who is the worst is or how good or not your playing. Without having other people inform you on these things. It would probably be rather freeing or frustrating who knows
Tried it for a video we did last summer, was really refreshing. It's hard to do M+ or any timed performance based content, and it was easier for me cuz I already knew the content, but it is very interesting to break wow from dps meters!
@@MarcelianOnline I think that's one of the appeals for augmentation, it's that you don't need to look at dps meters. But on the other hand, how could we gauge our performance without it? That's one of the things that turned me away from GW2, it's a fantastic game, combat is amazing and I'd dare to say better than wow's, or at least a lot more mobile, but there's no real way to know what your performance is. I'd love to see blizzard either add details to the base game, or find a new way to communicate performance, which I assume would be really freaking difficult
The day the game tells you what is happening and addons are banned I might consider returning seriously. Having to set things up again after a break is a huge bummer for me and often let’s me quit before I even got back in again. That’s just my subjective opinion. I don’t want to argue if that opinion is good or bad. I for myself know it won’t change for me, because I already tried playing with all the addons, without any and with only the essentials. All with the same conclusion.
I don't think banning is a good decision, addons give you flexibility and I don't want to remove that level of personal adjustments. Tho the game must step up with visual clarity, especially in raids
@@alihorda blizzard needs to implement that stuff into the game and do not rely on people to fix their game. If addons are not banned nothing will ever change.

It takes literaly 2 mins to set up a luxthos class wa and big wigs or dbm, and for 99% content that is jst what you need...the recent complain that the game is to complex and all need addons its stupid, a new player will never do in 2 days a + 20 or heroic raids... they have all the time in the world to learn the game.
If we could stick to 1-2 actionbars and a little slower pace, we didnt need all these shitty addons and weakauras. They whole screen is covered by them, to be competetive. I agree, I cant get myself to do the addons stuff again when I log in.
When i started playing WoW in legion i completely didnt even knew that i had to install addons etc. My guild made me install dbm, recounts, big wigs, weak aura etc and my game changed to worse.
Years ago in MOP when I was really competitively PVPing with Blozzcon dreams, in preparation for regional qualifiers they let us know that addons were banned in all forms from the competitive setting. It made it exponentially harder.
As a returning player who decided to come back to the game using as few adding as possible for as long as possible, I’ve definitely been feeling a lot of temptation due to the fact that I decided to main Outlaw Rogue. You can definitely do well in most scenarios if you’re actively paying attention to everything, but it’s very easy to misclick BtE too early and put it on CD during dance or vanish. And while the personal resource display does show you your Bones buffs, it’s difficult to tell at a glance whether or not it’s worth rerolling on cooldown. The spec is so fast as it is and because your combo spenders reduce your CDs, it doesn’t have a regular rhythm like other specs. Now that I’m starting to push M+ and raid more seriously, it definitely no longer feels like an option to get at least a few adding to help manage all this.
I have always hated the fact that you have to have addons to play properly but there is even bigger problem. The addons actually make it a 2D game. You spend most of your time interacting with 2D UI elements provided by addons. WoW is already known for bad visual clarity. When you also have a lot of 2D information on your screen you dont see anything at all anymore. This is why I never use big nameplates and stacking name plates. Because they literally are there to make the trash pack a 2D pack. Althogh they have done great job with new "Edit Mode" which for me replaced the weak auras for the most part. Now I only use WA for some buff durations which is usually 1-2 buffs track for each class. They also removed the need for bag addons. So apperantly they can remove the need for addons if and when they want it.
Considering Blizz has taken several pages out of Guild Wars 2’s playbook, I hope they take it one step further and eventually limit the number of abilities we can even keybind, and switch to a more “if this, then” type of combat style where unique things happen when done in a certain order/combination.
Great video. Simplify specs, remove weak auras dmb, implement real telegraph for skills, implement "remove other player spell effects" and we can start playing again while having fun.
I find it a bit funny in the segment of outlaw rogue, literally all the things people use weak auras for, you can replace by simply learning your class/spec fully. I know it makes it easier, and I don't blame people for using it, nor judge them, just something I find funny as a spectator who never uses weak auras, Also cuz I find it daunting to set up to actually make it better, and I don't like copy/paste settings as I don't know what it does. I prefer to understand my spec and cool downs, but that's just me of course.
Retri is always popular. It's now popular because it's one of the best DPS in the game, easy to play, has massive utility and is super tanky. So in short, rather OP.
A first step might be to get rid of 100 + different debuffs/buffs but compile them together like in gw2 together. There might be stunned/bleeding/disoriented etc as a status. Players can apply this status with cheap shot/kidney etc. But everybody see the same effect. Same with positiv buffs in players. How should I track a buff when I have 67 of them active
honestly for a while after i started back with wow i didnt have details. Not having that made me enjoy DPS soooo much more. it doesnt feel like you failed if you werent top dps, it just felt really good without it. but i was worried because other folks would be able to see im not doing well since you dont have that notification that your dps is too low
Very cool idea for video. Respect to you Flame for your determination to do this exercise. I hope in future wow will be redising to exist without addons but also as you have mentioned in the way to not have to look at 5 different places on the screen while still keeping your toon alive on 25ppl raid.
@@michaelkovalsky4907 i think its not true because if we would not use addons then the design of high end content would be a lot different and rather easier. If blizz had to design taking into consideration that we use addons then content is so complex you hardly manage to do it without addons. Its wrong cycle
@@Morgmar Certainly addons make some encounters far too complex to where there isn't much joy to be head. However, I do think that their presence allows Blizz to push the envelope more than what would be possible otherwise. FF14, as far as what I've seen, does not have overtly complex boss mechanics and their dungeons mechanics are also rather basic (they also lack proper lead up, where as in WoW the tras before a boss tend to do some variant of the boss mechanic that prepares you for it). That said, I do think that addons also act as a crutch for Blizz to not improve their UI much
i turned off DMG numbers since i realized that they do fixed % DMG instead fixed number... it doesn't matter... do i gear up so i can buff certain skill in my rotation? no, cause its that "flavor of the month" time...
I have been playing wow since wrath and never had installed any of these "suckers" and I play just fine, did several +15 mythics, I am happy and well.. that's all.
So i wonder if the gameplay and ui department work closely together or if there’s a discrepancy there. My hunch is the latter and I’d imagine that if they would join their brains they would come to a much more intuitive overall experience. Which would probably mean cutting down overly designed m+ dungeons and a smarter UI. After getting 3k rating on main and 2.5k on alt I have aswell gotten rid of all the addons as I just fly around the world now every now and then and I agree it makes for a much more enjoyable experience. It actually feels more like a… game :o
I pretty much use dbm and details. The only WA I use is for SKB on fire mage. Literally nothing else. I kinda hate weak auras because they’re complicated for my pea sized brain. But I had no issues getting to 3200 and 2 just over 3k.
Played fire mage recently , and whene skb is up you have the a 3 fire bar animation over your character similar to your instamt pyro proc light arownd your char
yea idk.. when i play M+ i need something that yell (move away) or so bc sometimes it happend that i m to conzentrate to heal and forget to move XD i wanna know what addons are good and dont take to much space bc right know i have long loading time when i log into the game or when i reload the game
I was a regular player but Blizzard has disappointed me to a huge amount... I refuse to return for many reasons and it is a pitty because it was a game i enjoyed. I keep watching MO because i like your videos guys! Keep it up and hopefully one day we will hear the back to basics rules and features so to return and enjoy the true wow!!
I think when it comes to the UI, WoW could (and should) take a couple lessons from their competition Specifically, FFXIV FFXIV will ALWAYS tell you WELL in advance "hey, don't stand here" it is up to YOU to recognize it and react in a timely manner a feat that, in and of itself, is easier said than done sometimes. but the game does tell you very clearly. FFXIV also isn't as punishing with death in the middle of a fight, so if a player dies, it isn't as big of a deal. but if half the team dies, it's still a major issue every rez is a battle rez in FFXIV, in the sense that every rez can be cast in combat. however, it isn't as powerful as you might think. first and foremost, there are only 2 non-healer Jobs that have a rez skill. secondly, it takes a 2nd skill that is on a 30sec cooldown to make it an instant cast (unless you're Red Mage). otherwise it takes 8 seconds to cast. that is 8 seconds of having to stand still and do NOTHING. no damage, no healing...nothing. hard casting a rez in battle, while an option, is often considered to be a VERY bad idea. that 2nd skill can also be used on ANYTHING with a cast time to make it an instant cast. and often is used on other things by others rezing is also very expensive on the mana bar. every caster gets 10k mp to deal with. the spell costs 2400. enough that one rez won't break the bank, but if you have to rez the entire team, then you won't be able to do anything else until you get some MP back on top of all this, the rez has a debuff. the first rez cuts all your primary stats (strength, agi/dex, etc) by 25%. this isn't nearly as punishing in FFXIV as it is in WoW. it can upgrade to 50% if you get rezed again before the debuff wears off (lasts about 2 minutes) you also get about 7 seconds of invulnerability after getting rezed, but only if you don't use any skills (you can still run around tho). this is to allow the healers to heal you back to full I think WoW could implement a similar system with similar results. obviously, exact details would change, but here is the general overview: 1. every healer automatically gets a battle rez as part of their skill set. this is not a talent tree thing, this is part of their base skills. these skills are also separate from the castable rez skill 2. remove the "only castable out of combat" part from ALL rez skills. 3. have being rezed in combat come with a debuff. something significant enough to make it harder, but not unplayable like having Rez Sickness does. find a happy middle ground of some sort as an optional, but possible additional bonus: 4. healers get an AoE rez skill as well. the cooldown is massive, the cast time long, the MP cost insane, and it's really only viable in a raiding environment, BUT...if used right, it can be a massive clutch. mostly because it would be cheaper than raising all the members individually, and it would also heal people to full health and mana. no debuff too. that is meant to emulate the healer's LB3 in FFXIV. like I said, optional bonus, but the first 3 points are things I think WoW should 100% add in
At least WAs and Details are just essential. There is 0 reason to check 4 conditions before deciding what to cast next when you can just have a WA which tells you right away
I guess I'm a true casual because I hate gameplay addons. I love useless stuff that allows me to take notes, or total RP or stuff like that, but I take it seriously to play the game like it is meant to, I spend hours arranging my action bars to be as efficient as possible but keeping it pretty and logical and likeable to use without optimising (like having an utility right next to a builder and a builder that I use less in the middle of some utility. All my builders are on left side, my spender on top of my builder, my buffs all in the right corner, and my utility on the right lower corner, with some changes following classes of course). I also always find a way to insert every single spell I have into my bars, for me even useless spells deserve their spot and I always find some way to use them at some point, although less when the success of the dungeon require some optimizing of course. I would hate if the game would tell me what to do in what situation, I just open my eyes and take a decision following what I see. I interrupt when I think it's right, I heal when I feel like to, I pop my burst when I feel it's necessary. SOmetimes it's messy, especially in raids when I heal, But With time and practice I find that you can do pretty good when you know your thing. I have no idea if the damage or heal counter say me wrong since I don't have any, but I never had anyone throwing me out or calling me for being behind in terms of numbers. I think Addons are very overrated and take away the soul of the game. Sure for perfect optimization it's probably required, but few content require it and I hate to go on a profession trip with my UI all messed up by an addon that make my screen look like the dashboard of a spatial ship with dozens of buttons and icons blinking and designed to optimize efficiency on mythic + only. Tbf the dragonflight update helped A LOT with the procs difficulty to track because now you can just place them anywhere you like and at the size you like and it's not so hard anymore. I completely understand that you got completely lost if you deleted your addons to play with default UI and basic quick spells arrangement on your action bars just for the challenge of this video
I agree that there should not be any addons. You can’t be considered good if you can’t play the game as is. It’s like saying you are good at soccer but you can use your hands.
I'm 100% down for banning bigwigs,/dbm/etc. The game in general would benefit greatly from that I think. 1%'ers will say it's too easy but everyone else will enjoy doing the mechanics as they come and not watching a countdown to possible destruction
after your video on DPS meters i scrapped most of my addon and i came to the same conclusion. War tank , no probleme i know the spec Wanna try outlaw, and i was like ... ok i have to track that , that and that AND squeez in between that cast but wait ! not to much because you need it up for shadow dance... Same for fire mage , the buff you need to track is not on the personnal ressources barre so i was left cluesless
Here I am playing outlaw because I miss combat... yet pulling significantly less dps than the majority of other classes because even with weak auras im terrible at managing the million things going on.
Dont give a shit about ppl telling "You are bad." and bla bla bla. Some ppl need it, since its "too difficult to keep tracking of everything happening". Just learn the game, get used to it. Besides, blizzard really needs to change how things are shown to players.
Ive playes WoW since wotlk and im still a clicker and never used addons except for DBM and recount is that a rare thing? 😂 i was a mythic raider during MoP and was perfectly fine lol
i can't play with addons i have to us G force cues what feels like a mouth ago my pc died so not i'm on an old Labtop and can't get a new pc for some time maybe a year but something i thank may be nice if they give us the ability to turn all buffs markers in are HUD that are not form are class or quest i mane do i really need to know that the druid cast mark of the wild or that a paladin has his aura on that or they need to fix the game to where you can play with no addons if you want to and not feel like your holder back you guild or team or your self
Season 2 of dragonflight I decided to take a crack at pvp doing only solo shuffle. Goal was to get to 1800 for the elite appearance. I was able to do it in about 4 months and the only add on I used was dps charts. No gladius no ability team tracker nothing of the sort. If you take the time to learn the game you will find addons to be less useful and only bloat your screen with information you already know.
I don’t understand why people are so against addons when it’s completely optional. I get that in certain scenarios it might give someone the upper hand compared to someone not using addons, but then surely that’s on the player opting out of addons. People talking about how painful it is to set up addons, then don’t use them? I do agree that Blizzard need to make the in game UI and mechanics better for players to not require addons however
I look to have as little as addons as i can. With the new UI from Blizz I dont need shadowed unitframes or bartender and weakauras only on hard classes like rog but at paly i can use some buffs from tell me when and the rest is at the nameplate and since then my feelings are better it feels like a fight not a botmode 😂 I'm really interessted in how blizz will create a own dmg meter so we dont need an addon 😅
Do any of you remember those funny times when we were playing all those 2 d games and they were fking difficult and you had to have impeccable timing all that other shit I am to lazy to remember and there weren't any addons and I was fun. There certainly weren't any fancy timers. Xd😂
Its why you see the implementation of some popular addons to the game. Clique, waypoints, UI modifications etc. I use dbm and coordinates and clique, and thats it. I guess I'm a scrub lol
I havent played high end content, because of the need for addons. I dont know how to offer advice to change it since the community and blizz embrace it
I got 1900 arena and 2.4 blitz elwithout addons. I dont think you need them however, i did note i wouldnt wait until things are off dr. This is impossible without and addon and blizz needs to address this.
Would it be ideal if Blizzard made these addons themselves, and kept the customization possibilities of them? Yes. However if you think they would do a good job at that, you’re high. There’s a reason addons exist in the first place and it’s Eva use they’re bad at designing those things, so players took it into their own hands. Also if you think they have the budget to put into such a massive overhaul of the UI and adding all that stuff to the game, you’re also high. Thing is addons are optional. If you don’t want to play with them, then don’t. There’s no reason to force everyone else off of them by banning addons. I just don’t see any world where no addons is better. Sure addons like weakauras are too much when it comes to predicting mechanics and that kind of stuff. Showing your buttons and stuff like that is fine, but the ones that solve mechs for you are a problem. But I think the answer to that is the whole private auras thing but expanded.
i'll boil this video down in 1 simple statement: Addons in retail wow are REQUIRED. IF you choose to not play with any, you are not getting invited to anyone's guild that care about progression. You will be the weak link, and the best thing to do with weak links is to get rid of them.
They play the game for you… not really… they reminds you or show you what’s happening in the game. When DBM says move away it doesn’t move you, it reminds you to do it when there are a lot of things going on… the DPS dying, the healer low mana, people in discord yelling, green stuff, purple stuff, red stuff… I can’t keep track of everything. If something gently says: frontal incoming… then I move, but it’s me moving. It’s as the same thing as a patch on the ground in the UI.
I mean yeah you still have to move the character, but if the add on didn’t tell you to move would you? If it didn’t put a patch on the floor would you move too it? If it tells you what to do and you follow what it says…then it’s playing the game for you.
@@EricTheMedic yes actually 😊 you can see the frontal, but you need to be veeeeery focussed. Addons are mostly to remind you what it’s going to happen. It’s a helper, like a raid leader in discord… there to help you, not play the game for you. I only use limited addons: DBM (expired probably months ago), details and plater… oh and the interrupt WA. That’s it 😛
@@Mindy_T I am firmly in the camp of get rid of add ons. The only ones I could see keeping are damage meters and ui add ons. That’s just my opinion though. I really only play PvP and damage meter is the only add on I currently use. But play how you want I just don’t like being hand held and told what to do. If you like it then fine hey you do you homie 😄
I don't think you needed to go through the pain to find this stuff. If there were no addons the specs and UI need to be redesigned. FF uses something called the job gauges, which let you track more easily the resources and buffs you need to without needing to filter through a list of them.
Problem is addons and weakauras is kind of required to play the game well or optimaly, sure you could play without it but your performance Will take a hit, a massive hit. Thats what i realy dont like with especialy mythic raiding like tindras, remove wa and addons and No one could ever kill that boss, it is designed for 100% requirement of addons and wa. Without it it is 100% No kill
my guess: blizzard is just waiting for players to do there jobs and create addons or weak auras to track the gameplay. so if you switch off all your addons you may say the game design is crap. i personally have ony some quality of life addons like: silverdragon, handynotes and YES: weak aura for playing my shaman properly. hopefully on time blizzard will go back to the basics of this game.
Well the game is super easy without addons idk what everyone is tripping about, only addon i use it details which is only to check what the dmg is at and im 2700+ on mythic with 1m+ dmg burst and 250k-350k overall, no dbm no weakaurads or no addon that tells u what button to press im not sure what its called
I don't use any addons. The only one I download is dbm, but I've got everything turned off, pretty much just shows that I've got it, cause people require it, same goes for weak aura. The game is very enjoyable. I couldn't take it having to wait for updates or errors. Git gud is all I have to say too people, game isn't that hard.
@@Rudbeckbitten I have, i've got KSM, KSH and aotc on at least 3 different characters without any combat addon (weak auras, dbm, bigwigs, gtfo, etc.) It's perfectly doable, but I think it will also depend on your role and spec, I did this with Ret Pally, Dev Evoker, and Spriest, the priest was the hardest overall. And I'm planning to do the same thing in S4 with frost mage
Feel if the game were designed without add-ons, it would be too easy. Mythic difficulty could just be a heroic mode with add-ons disabled, see how the players fare.😂
@@The0nlyyI disagree. The game does not require or need any type of add on to be played. Not one. Period. If a player wants to use add-ons then fine, but in no way is it a requirement to play.
Im new to the game. All my colleagues told me to install tooons of addons. Since I play as a healer I have so far only installed clique for easier life and dps meter just to laugh when I see someone is slacking :p
Devils advocate (I agree blizzard needs to update their systems and UI) Why would they use their resources and pay employees to create something when DBM omniCD and other add ons are already made and updated and blizzard doesn’t have to do anything? This is a common theme in many games when they don’t have the resources in house they allow outside sources to make the things they need
recently started playing wow coming from gw2, used to play wotlk bunch of years ago and althou I think wow is a better game, but downloading everything is really annoying and before addons seeing all procs and effects is quite discouraging in the end after watching some guides and videos how more perfoming people play, I hate it, all the alerts, sounds and bloat of colors and information, sadly I will spend remaining game time and will not buy war within.
The only adon I need is for healing like Vuhdo to easier bind shit the rest can be learned ppl are just braindead these days getting told to “stop” and kick etc
Wow should have never allowed addons. Designing the game around the expectation that everyone is using them is how the game got so bloated and overly complicated.
To be honest, up until heroic aotc, addons shouldn't be required. Yet the game is so bad at telling you whats going on and is so complex that it basically is a requirement.
I am doing +19s without anything than details. The game is beautiful and I have 0 problems for now. The game has good UI that I customized to o help me. And to be honest, hope DBM anweakauras get banned. I will call it - legal cheating!
I never played with weak auras and my dps is around 95 % parse for years . Addons are not about dps . Addons are essential for staying alive and keeping others alive in raids and mythic plus . Also they allow us to sim our characters . If blizz wont change the game drasticaly we will have to keep using them
@@atlantah5496 i agree that its impossible to play affliction and demo warlock for example without weak auras i get that but all of melee classes and bunch of ranged dps have no requirement for weak auras . But thats just my opinion
I remember when i started playing in Shadowlands, I had no addons the game was so much more fun. I kept adding a weakaura pack as a suggestion from someone, DBM because Theater of Pain was a pain in the butt and my guild required it for raiding, Plater because why not. Game has become so bloated overtime. Thanks for giving me a new perspective. I will play with minimal addons also. Details, simulationcraft and leatrix plus for some QOL automation.
I came back to the game as a former 7 years break to play my original class, fire mage, playing a top50 guild for 3 years and yeah I think the mage was headache, and I cant be arsed to download 1 million WA and such to compete with for example "faceroll" hunter. I do for sure enjoy a challange but not when other classes do same or more damage without tmgetting screwed totally if you miss a thing slithly due to not having the help from addons.
The game is fundamentally designed with addons in mind, for combat addons to be less required there are a lot of changes that need to take place in the base game and I don't have a lot of faith in blizzard to do it properly. They can barely get the UI changes they've made so far to work as intended. It feels like a better approach would be for blizzard to open source their UI code, let developers contribute to it and roll it out to the client as changes occur because we cannot wait until the next major/minor patch to fix UI problems, that's just a terrible user experience.
Brother when I played this game Outlaw wasn’t even a spec, Hunters were ranged only, and Shaman / Pally could only be played by Blood Elf or Draeni on the opposite faction. What on earth have they done to this game’s identity?
i would ban Addons like DBM and WA and then design the Game how it should be with out those Addons in mind. To your point of clunky speccs np than it is not "your" specc but some who really love and excel at it. qol Addons should be made irrelevant. TLDR Problems imo Bad UI To many 1 shot mechanics M+ Timer Bloated Damage Rotations

The gameplay literally feels like 3d Mario/ Guitar Hero.
I really like you speaking up after the challenge, and your opinions on addons.

Great video!
I really hope someone at Blizzard watches this and helps *ease* the addon dependence that players have.
Good video, thanks! I main Outlaw, and can confirm that the BtE tracker allows you to barely match a hunter with your gigabrain spec.
Great Video...goes to show just how archaic the base UI is and how game has been developed around the usage of addons.
That, and how bloated the game is.
Years ago in MOP when I was really competitively PVPing with Blozzcon dreams, in preparation for regional qualifiers they let us know that addons were banned in all forms from the competitive setting. It made it exponentially harder.
I love this video. Ive felt this way since mop, wod, legion. Shits just get complex in a compounding way.
Move the buffs above your character and hit the arrow to remove 10+ min buffs for the sun king thing.
Sounds like you want an entirely different game. Go look, there’s tons for you
I think you can already disable other players spell effects, I know you can drastically minimize them, but idk is completely remove them
@@AngelUribe18 Is it weird I prefer having them on? I like keeping tabs.
@@StealthTheFoxz nope, I keep them on as well, I paid for my gpu, I'm gonna use my damn gpu lol
@@AngelUribe18 If its the same that I tried its just minimal and has no effect. I mean something similar to FF14
I find it a bit funny in the segment of outlaw rogue, literally all the things people use weak auras for, you can replace by simply learning your class/spec fully.
I know it makes it easier, and I don't blame people for using it, nor judge them, just something I find funny as a spectator who never uses weak auras,
Also cuz I find it daunting to set up to actually make it better, and I don't like copy/paste settings as I don't know what it does.
I prefer to understand my spec and cool downs, but that's just me of course.
I bet theres one reason retri is so popular and the reason is that you wont need any weak auras or insanely hard rotations to do decent damage with it
Retri is always popular.
One can say that addons is what keep the raiding and higher end M+ fun as it continues to uphold WoW's "easy to learn, hard to master" mantra.
After getting 3k rating on main and 2.5k on alt I have aswell gotten rid of all the addons as I just fly around the world now every now and then and I agree it
makes for a much more enjoyable experience. It actually feels more like a… game :o
I pretty much use dbm and details. The only WA I use is for SKB on fire mage. Literally nothing else. I kinda hate weak auras because they’re complicated for my pea sized brain. But I had no issues getting to 3200 and 2 just over 3k.
Find Waldo & the aftermath of that spicy burito 🤣 Nice work though.
Loved the video espec the part from 8:10 -> 10:35 :)

I keep watching MO because i like your videos guys! Keep it up and hopefully one day we will hear the back to basics rules and features so to return and enjoy the true wow!!
I think when it comes to the UI, WoW could (and should) take a couple lessons from their competition
Specifically, FFXIV
FFXIV will ALWAYS tell you WELL in advance "hey, don't stand here"
it is up to YOU to recognize it and react in a timely manner
a feat that, in and of itself, is easier said than done sometimes. but the game does tell you very clearly.
FFXIV also isn't as punishing with death in the middle of a fight, so if a player dies, it isn't as big of a deal. but if half the team dies, it's still a major issue
every rez is a battle rez in FFXIV, in the sense that every rez can be cast in combat. however, it isn't as powerful as you might think.
first and foremost, there are only 2 non-healer Jobs that have a rez skill. secondly, it takes a 2nd skill that is on a 30sec cooldown to make it an instant cast (unless you're Red Mage). otherwise it takes 8 seconds to cast. that is 8 seconds of having to stand still and do NOTHING. no damage, no healing...nothing. hard casting a rez in battle, while an option, is often considered to be a VERY bad idea.
that 2nd skill can also be used on ANYTHING with a cast time to make it an instant cast. and often is used on other things by others
rezing is also very expensive on the mana bar. every caster gets 10k mp to deal with. the spell costs 2400. enough that one rez won't break the bank, but if you have to rez the entire team, then you won't be able to do anything else until you get some MP back
on top of all this, the rez has a debuff. the first rez cuts all your primary stats (strength, agi/dex, etc) by 25%. this isn't nearly as punishing in FFXIV as it is in WoW. it can upgrade to 50% if you get rezed again before the debuff wears off (lasts about 2 minutes)
you also get about 7 seconds of invulnerability after getting rezed, but only if you don't use any skills (you can still run around tho). this is to allow the healers to heal you back to full
I think WoW could implement a similar system with similar results. obviously, exact details would change, but here is the general overview:
1. every healer automatically gets a battle rez as part of their skill set. this is not a talent tree thing, this is part of their base skills. these skills are also separate from the castable rez skill
2. remove the "only castable out of combat" part from ALL rez skills.
3. have being rezed in combat come with a debuff. something significant enough to make it harder, but not unplayable like having Rez Sickness does. find a happy middle ground of some sort
as an optional, but possible additional bonus:
4. healers get an AoE rez skill as well. the cooldown is massive, the cast time long, the MP cost insane, and it's really only viable in a raiding environment, BUT...if used right, it can be a massive clutch. mostly because it would be cheaper than raising all the members individually, and it would also heal people to full health and mana. no debuff too.
that is meant to emulate the healer's LB3 in FFXIV. like I said, optional bonus, but the first 3 points are things I think WoW should 100% add in
At least WAs and Details are just essential. There is 0 reason to check 4 conditions before deciding what to cast next when you can just have a WA which tells you right away
I don't raid so I don't know how necesary it is there but I've been playing m+ without combat addons since BFA, it's not an issue.
Outlaw is a prime example of a class that is designed around having addons. DIE ADDONS AND HACROS DIES!
I never use any addon since vanilla
after your video on DPS meters i scrapped most of my addon and i came to the same conclusion.
War tank , no probleme i know the spec
Wanna try outlaw, and i was like ... ok i have to track that , that and that AND squeez in between that cast but wait ! not to much because you need it up for shadow dance...

Here I am playing outlaw because I miss combat... yet pulling significantly less dps than the majority of other classes because even with weak auras im terrible at managing the million things going on.

Nope, you play as you like my dude, if you enjoy playing without addons no one can simply tell you that you're bad
Ive playes WoW since wotlk and im still a clicker and never used addons except for DBM and recount is that a rare thing? 😂 i was a mythic raider during MoP and was perfectly fine lol
I've been playing SFHC with no addons and I've been enjoying it. Retail just isn't the game to play without addons.
i can't play with addons i have to us G force cues what feels like a mouth ago my pc died so not i'm on an old Labtop and can't get a new pc for some time maybe a year but something i thank may be nice if they give us the ability to turn all buffs markers in are HUD that are not form are class or quest i mane do i really need to know that the druid cast mark of the wild or that a paladin has his aura on that or they need to fix the game to where you can play with no addons if you want to and not feel like your holder back you guild or team or your self
I do agree that Blizzard need to make the in game UI and mechanics better for players to not require addons however
The fact that you have Norton 360 worries me.
I look to have as little as addons as i can. With the new UI from Blizz I dont need shadowed unitframes or bartender and weakauras only on hard classes like rog but at paly i can use some buffs from tell me when and the rest is at the nameplate and since then my feelings are better it feels like a fight not a botmode 😂
I'm really interessted in how blizz will create a own dmg meter so we dont need an addon 😅

The only addon I really use is just weak auras.
But I think the answer to that is the whole private auras thing but expanded.
i'll boil this video down in 1 simple statement:
Addons in retail wow are REQUIRED. IF you choose to not play with any, you are not getting invited to anyone's guild that care about progression. You will be the weak link, and the best thing to do with weak links is to get rid of them.
This is an issue that makes the game inaccessible to new casual players, and if you can’t attract new casual players the game will eventually die.
Great video
Never used big wigs or weak auras too complicated to use
Addons are a courtesy to other players and their time in an MMO 👍🏻
my guess: blizzard is just waiting for players to do there jobs and create addons or weak auras to track the gameplay. so if you switch off all your addons you may say the game design is crap. i personally have ony some quality of life addons like: silverdragon, handynotes and YES: weak aura for playing my shaman properly.
hopefully on time blizzard will go back to the basics of this game.
15:20, 1000% agree.

Devils advocate (I agree blizzard needs to update their systems and UI)
Why would they use their resources and pay employees to create something when DBM omniCD and other add ons are already made and updated and blizzard doesn’t have to do anything? This is a common theme in many games when they don’t have the resources in house they allow outside sources to make the things they need
So basically it comes down to this: the base UI just sucks and Blizz is incompetent in making it good.
recently started playing wow coming from gw2, used to play wotlk bunch of years ago and althou I think wow is a better game, but downloading everything is really annoying and before addons seeing all procs and effects is quite discouraging in the end after watching some guides and videos how more perfoming people play, I hate it, all the alerts, sounds and bloat of colors and information, sadly I will spend remaining game time and will not buy war within.

I would come back to wow if they banned addons.
I swear people overexaggerate how "hard" this game is
I think ui addons like Elvui are fine some dont like the Look of Standard ui. Combataddons like weakaura or dbm shouldnt needed to play the game
I never played with weak auras and my dps is around 95 % parse for years . Addons are not about dps . Addons are essential for staying alive and keeping others alive in raids and mythic plus . Also they allow us to sim our characters . If blizz wont change the game drasticaly we will have to keep using them
People are different. Someone needs every addon possible to even be close to competitive. So speak for yourself only.
which class and spec?

I would literally quit the game if Blizzard got rid of addons. Nobody is taking away my UI.
I play the game with only details its ez af.
The ‘practical’ add ons make the game less fun
