Should there be a permanent way to get rid of spam calls? Comment below and join the conversation.
Thanks for useful informations.
thanks for choosing such an interesting topic
There should also be a unsubscribe like thing for spam messages like it is in emails.
Kudos to your team members and you for excellent presentation & research
Useful info 😂😂😂
Wasted telecast !
She always picks up ‘catchy’ titles and topics…may be for novice this was informative but for most she should re-told was what we all know.
I was so fed up with the spam calls that I simply enabled "silence unknown callers". I can sometimes miss a legit unknown caller, but I can always call them back if I see the phone number to be legit. This truly helped me.
Also, if someone actually wants to reach out to you, they call twice (mostly). I also use that as a filter.
Last month, I answered a fake CRA call. The moment the caller finished introducing himself as some kind of "officer" in a fake american accent, I started telling him a made up story (crying out loud 🤣) on how my ex gf used my money to buy expensive gifts for herself and when she found out I had no money she left me. The guy tried to stop me every second, because....apparently that's not what he wanted. But I literally continued talking non-stop and made him listen to my made up story. After 39 seconds, he got angry and hung up saying "mo*****er" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Congratulations you cheat the cheater.🎉
😂😂😂
Kudos to Palki for bringing out a genuine issue that is affecting our everyday lives!
I am a retired testing officer in Bsnl and getting relentless spam calls since many years.I found only solution is to buy premium version of Truecaller and getting those calls identified and rejected most calls. But as you said Hydra is immortal 😢.. At 70 years I am getting tested my patience...Govt is keeping tight lipped and allowing scamming and phising...We are at the mercy of time. This video is the best you have ever presented Mrs.Palki Sharma.Keep going🎉❤
When u were part of the failing gov enterprise what did you or ur BSNL do to prevent this ? Nothing. Now u r being served 😄
@@sanjaypatil2532Bruh he was an employee not the board of directors nor part of Telcom ministry do you know how dumb your statement sounds
Here is what has helped me
1. Phone calls - Keep blocking them 1 by 1. This takes a couple of months but I have recently felt that the spam calls have reduced drastically to only 1 or 2 calls in a month.
Pro - You won't have to install any 3rd party app. Con - It takes time and is a long process. Slow and steady wins the race.
2. SMS - Same approach as the above.
3. Emails - I spent 3-4 hours on a Sunday afternoon to ensure all unnecessary mails go to the spam folder. Understand how to apply filters and you can make sure that mails automatically go into those specific folders so its easier to view and retrieve when required.
I do the same even if it's from official bank sources 😅.
The thing is many phones doesn't allow us to block the no number spam contacts, I used to use Samsung phone for many years and they didn't have the features to block them.
@@abinashpandey9887 Interesting. Then I guess 3rd party app is the only way forward, but the best one out there is Truecaller which I don't really trust so... Hopefully someone develops a free app which can block messages and numbers and most importantly numbers with certain patterns :)
There seems to be no end to it. Banks try calling with different numbers. Really fed up with this nonsense
For sms use sms organizer from Microsoft. Oh what a relief it is. Its free and from Microsoft and it has given me so much peace. I wish there was a similar free service for calls also
I actually did something after that I get less calls after that incident. When someone tried me for a financial offer, I told them to come to an office in a particular location where I dont stay. They came , tried to find me, lost some precious hours finally, hopelessly, went back home. Then I understood they 'blacklisted' me and I get less calls. It happened in 2018.
Sometimes your own desperate expectation of success makes you believe in something non-factual.
You think ur # was sold only to 1 financial company and why would you assume u being blacklisted in one list means blacklisting on other caller-lists 🤔
Didn't they call you when they reached there?
@@a_m4608 yes I kept my mobile silent that time. Later also they called then I told why I did that.
Whenever someone calls me for a credit card or loans, i simply tell them " yes i want a loan or credit card for Flipkart and Amazon shopping. Please give me a credit card please as I don't have a pan card because of my age and i study in class 11th". 😂😂😂😂
It actually works....😂😂 they sometimes tell me i am lying but i tell them " this is my elder brother's number and currently I'm using it as i live in kota for college exam far away from my home ". 😂😂 .
Try it
As a South Indian I use different languages so that the caller has no choice to disconnect the call themselves. Knowing multiple languages helps. Depending on the accent, we can identify where the caller is from. If the caller is offering personal loans, I listen to them and when the caller asks what I do for living....I tell them I am a criminal lawyer or a police officer. They will immediately cut the call and will never call you again.😂
I disconnected the call when they start talking in Hindi with a pan Parag accent. 😂😂..
Your idea is good. I’ve tried it also since I speak a little of each of the 4 southern languages. Unfortunately, only that person will not call you again. But your number is given to several different employees. In fact, the same database is shared by several hundred businesses.
It is our nature to become easy victims of spam calls and messages. Look at the way we Indians use the mobile phone. We use it not as an aide to our work but as a life support system. Even in a WhatsApp group we spam each other with unnecessary good morning, good evening messages, and stale old jokes and silly sayings which nobody reads or responds to. Yet people send one another hundreds and thousands of such spam messages.
guess it runs in the genes LMAO 💀💀
Caller names should be displayed, as is done by true caller.
TRAI should make this mandatory.
true caller itself sells your contacts to marketing people
Absolutely right
Very relevant topic - Spam Calls. Why should anyone call you when you dont actually want it. The calls come at any busy hours and when you are expecting some important call. Pray one finds a solution to block such spam calls soon.
Sounds like India needs anti-spam laws like the USA Do Not Call list. I rarely get a spam call. The worst are calls from politicians who are exempt.
What nonsense! My number has been on the US Goverment’s DNC list since 2004, but I still get robo-calls from some machine occasionally using a real number that belongs to some real person. The DNC is useless and the law are no match for automated calls that seem designed to simply annoy people…
Politicians call you? I mean they wouldn't be calling you personally right?
@@abinashpandey9887 No, during the political seasons, people working for politicians running for office do calls and texts asking for money. I have been getting several every day. They are exempt from the Do Not Call list.
Best thing is to stop sharing phone numbers in shopping centre’s , restaurants etc there has to be some consent rules by govt
I might get 2 or 3 spam calls per week max...
If I don't recognise the number, I don't answer. Simple as that.
If someone wants to talk me from one of those numbers, they'll leave a message, I reckon :-)

I used to receive at least 3 spam calls / day an year before, none now though.
I respond to spam calls in Sanskrit, and they do not call back. The spam callers in fact marked me as a spam and waste of time 🤣
I have been blocking numbers that are spam and over a period of time it's built like a data base on my phone now with 1000s of phone numbers blocked so when i receive calls or msgs from such numbers, my phone dosent ring, it directly blocks them. It's not an immediate solution but still it has helped me reduce the number of spam calls from about 50/week to about 5-6/week which are basically new numbers that I then block
Genius did it ever dawn on you, that you have been giving ur # to so many unsolicited companies 🤔
Imagine a situation where you spend your entire day just blocking spam calls. 😢😢
Same here
@@sanjaypatil2532 genius if u watched the video, you will realise you don't have to give your number to so many unsolicited companies, data is being sold over the dark web. There have also been instances where data with reliable companies have been hacked and made available over the dark web for a nominal fee. Since there are no data protection laws, there is very little normal people can do but hey i am sure you are a 'genius' who has never shared your mobile number with anyone hence you never receive such calls.
We have to stop these spam calls and the scammers. We as in Indians.
This topic is very important. India needs strict laws, punishment mechanisms.
As Indian it become nightmare for me I got daily duzen spam call and message despite having dnd. Govt need to strictly punish this rascals.

A strategy that works for me -
Don't answer unknown numbers. When you meet someone, either save their number or ask them to send a text before calling. If it's someone important, they'll call repeatedly or send a text. If you do answer an unknown caller, immediately inquire about how they got your number and consider ending the call if you're unfamiliar with them.
Wht if they are frm frm job agency ?
Yes, vigilant people does the same
@@kritikabhatt7706keep only one permanent number and that you can share with famil5, friends, relative, office etc.
Do not pick unknown number received on permanent Sim. Pick unknown number received on temporary sim
Thanks for voicing this concern of all Indians. On Apple phones, focus mode allows you to simply silent/cancel out all calls that come from callers outside your contacts. I used to get 15 spam calls a day, but now with focus mode, no more spam calls to bother me.
It's the same in Pixel and Samsung and (I'm guessing) most other phones as well.
And this is how you miss important deliveries from amazon
You could most certainly miss delivery calls like Amazon, Flipkart, Zomato, Swiggy, etc...
Thank you Palki for the tips on efforts to minimize spam calls in an apparent unwinnable war. Spam is big business on the Internet: the evil in parallel with the good 😮.
I would suggest using 2 numbers. One for very personal use shouldn't be shared to any except you near and dear one. Use another number keeping the phone in silent only for commercial purposes and you can sleep over weekends peacefully. I am following it and very happy. 😊
Yes I do this
Spare old mobile phone with number to given to non family or businesses who need contact number
Even I have one junk number for this.
Hats off to the Narative through which you and your team think of the public problems , the way it should be presented as a news with unbiased journalism etc.

Most spam and scam calls come from India. To stop them you'd have to start by doing something about India's calling centers.
India is no longer a Call Center Hub. Tech repairs for US companies like Verizon, Microsoft etc do come from India, but a lot of spam marketing/sales calls don't originate in India.
As a result of my experiences from getting repeatedly scammed & conned by Indian people, I stay away from them & steer clear of them. I am very wary of them. Call it prejudice, but that's how and why it starts. From bad experiences.@@wolfmangoland7972

What I do is to set defaults to silent ringtone and no vibration. Only family and friends get an audible ringtone. Might not work for some, but works fine for me. You might miss a non-spam calls here and there, but who cares.
Just think of an emergency scenario: Recently, my dad's phone was stolen, and he had to borrow someone's phone. Generally, i ignore unknown calls but thankfully I attended that day.
Thank you, Palki ji. You are doing excellent job. I will read the suggestions given here. And follow. Still I will wait for a solution from you.

Hi Palki, The root cause of the problem with 'financial services ' type calls is that the banks pay commission to these callers for any sale. When we make a complaint to the bank saying this number had called offering me your product, they wash their hands off saying they are not our bank employees. One of the biggest culprits here is HDFC Bank. I get at least 3 calls a week offering HDFC personal loan. And why do they do this? Because HDFC offers them a commission. Why can't HDFC or other banks stop this business model? I have no idea about their success rate but considering how everyone seems annoyed with it, I think the success rate could be 1 in 100. If the telecallers are still making these calls, it means the commission offered is pretty high. The banks need to stop this third party commission model. Only then, spam calls will stop. Also guity are these telecom companies who issue unlimited number of new sim cards to these callers, just to show x number of new users in their quarterly results. Please research on this and do a video on these large companies that are encouraging spam.
Excellent presentation Palki! With all the data breaches out there, we must be ever vigilant. If you don't recognize a number, just do not answer the phone and block/report the number imediately.
Yes, vigilant people does this to avoid SPAM.
however that's not practical for most.
so they need to buy second SIM Without linking that number to any bank, financial institution, any app(except Google account)
And then pick calls Without fear.
Internet calls to mobile incoming must be blocked by all telecom companies to avoid 90% of spam calls (excluding app to app calls via internet)
Telecom authority can identify these numbers as internet call are different then mobile numbers.
If impersonation has happened that will be flagged multiple times in system of different telecom companies and people report those numbers and associated id's.
Users privacy as per telecom authority is major concern while flashing person name instead of mobile number.
But virtually no data law in country anyways compromising user privacy in Consumer to Business model.
This is for consumer to consumer.
In such way, identification of caller as consumer Identity can be tracked and identified how it was circulated to internet initially.
So chances of identification of such corporate , group increases who misuses identity of consumer indirectly.
Thanks for flaging this, every citizen being victim of this SPAM calls. Govt interference must be required to stop this other form of terrorism.
I truly get level up brain feeling when I hear up Palki ma'am speaking ... you are doing excellent work ma'am. 👏
One the finest documentry of Durga Puja I've ever seen. Thanks Naveen ji, for your video. It's makes us more proud as a Bengali.
Support 'data protection bill' 🙏
Ironically, true caller supplies our data to all the spammers in the name of blocking the spam calls.
Forward all calls to voicemail that is not in your contact list. If it is a legit one, they will leave a message and then you can call them back.
Problem is if we do activate block calls from unknown callers, even delivery service calls get blocked.
Android phones have call screener app built in (atleast here in the USA). The phone doesn't ring till the time the screener determines that there is acutal person calling and the person has identified the purpose. Whatever the person says is being displayed on your phone without ringing. At this point, you can decide to either pick up the phone or let it go to voice mail.
Never answer a number you don't know by saying, Hello.
Pick some other words- the computer will disconnect.
Suffering from spam call heavily, even dnd is failure, reached police and regulator but they dont care
Add important numbers to favourite list and only allow DND mode to be interrupted for those in this favourite list. Later, you can view 'miss calls' from your non-favourite list and decide whether to return the call or not. If it's really important, people can still reach you through text message, whatsapp or emails if they really can't get you through phone calls but spammers rarely do that and will again try to make the spam call expecting you to pickup. That's how you identify spammers and adv calls because they rarely try to reach you through other modes of communication mentioned above when their direct calls don't go through.
Too many steps, have an allowed lists and the ability to put phone numbers on the allowed lists. All spam will stop instantly, no need to block another number they use when they have to be on the list in the first place to reach your phone and ring it. If someone want to contact you, they will send you a letter( help support the post office in a double whammy). The telecom company can put government agencies/911 on the allowed lists automatically for all client and prevent said numbers from being put on that list in the first place. I am a regular, low educated citizen and I can come up with this solution in 10 mins, meaning Governments/shady people working within government are guilty of propping up those scams/spam call agencies. They have more money and will than me, they just refuse and hope the populace is dumb enough to not be able to tell them how to do they jobs.
Timely (Reminder) piece... Even though most of this is known...
Thank you Palki ma'am ♥🙏
- rest assured, this isn't "SPAM" 😊
Please don't share your number at the billing counter or any one asking for feedback bills or in restaurants. You will fall less for spamming. Also not to forget to not share numbers in banks without having a solid reason.
Use separate sims one for only calls and other for banking, Aadhaar and other registrations and turn it on only when needed as I do.
I only answer a call which is on my contact list. Any one else can leave a message. In Canada most SPAM are for fraud - sadly senior have lost money.
Thank you very much for the meaningful talk and tips.
Kudos to your excellent work and real and used news
#India needs #Europe's #GDPR kind of Data Privacy Régulations. But Unfortunately our Corrupted Indian Politicians don't bring such kind of Regulations. Because they will also buy the Personal Data of People and use for their Publicity.
Ooo love the way you ended it .. amazing writing work
Thank you for this important information Palki Sharma, such an anchor you are.
Super informative New... I was thinking full was the only one who was getting spam calls, messages and emails. Till I watched this video.
1. Call blocking apps are not foolproof
2. DND doesn't help, as telemarketers are switching to private mobile phones and skip such dnd regulations. I live in germany for 7 years now. I have an Indian number here on roaming to get OTPs for my transactions in India and everyday i get at least 15 tele marketing calls though i have DnD activated.
Add important numbers to favourite list and only allow DND mode to be interrupted for those in this favourite list. India should be number 1 in this list. I alone receiving almost 10 calls everyday.
I use an iPhone and I have enabled the option to send all new numbers that are not on my contact list to voice mail. I will listen to voice mails at my lesuire and return the calls back. It has been very helpful for me. I am sure android also has a similar option.
To reduce spam calls, consider using two SIM cards: one dedicated to social accounts, banks, OTP messages, and online forms, while the second is reserved exclusively for friends and family.
For the first number, since it's shared on social media, with banks, and online, it's advisable to disable incoming calls. Only enable them when necessary.
TRAI has become a joke
and in my case Hiya has helped me so much.. still these goons need to be stoped somehow
India needs a Europe like GDPR policy asap.
Stop giving your phone number to companies. They take your number to send you coupons, discounts, and sales information. But they sell these lists to other scammers too. Limit giving the number. If you start getting spam calls, keep blocking the numbers. It works for me.
By turning off the phone or not using it often. Phones these days are used for multiple reasons including cheating. Miss the good old days of the 1990s when we didn't get stuck behind a smart phone.
One important remody for spam emails is: that email services should be "charged", and not free of cost. A fee for using, can block many fake attempts.
So happy that tanla platforms is going to solve this majour issue , hope we give some light to tanla for their great work
My phone and many others have a "do not disturb"setting where only your favourites can call and the rest others will not ring.I have listed 25 people whose calls matters to me the most. The rest I connect later if I feel the need to. Works well for me.
You are just amazing Palki ji
I change my number every year as soon as I start getting spam calls. That way I learnt that everyone will have start doing it now so that spammers won’t get to us and eventually there business will collapse 😊
I made a decision, I will not opt for services for which I am getting spam calls. If ever needed I will reach out to their competitors who are not bothering me with spam calls. I often communicate this to spam callers as well. This reduced the number of incoming calls to me. now I mostly get robo calls only.
I just reply that I'm a student and the phone owner has changed. As a student , I tell them, I do not have any money. They themselves instantly hang up and the vendor never calls up back.
I had faced this problem like everyone arround me. There used to be at least 2 calls a day.
I used to pickup these calls after that I would block them instantlty.
Doing this everyday in a few weeks I got rid of all of them.
I stopped picking calls from all unknown number from past 1 year. I don't care whoever calls or however important is the call. I JUST DON'T PICK UNKNOWN CALLS .
Lol, now thats extreme
These Spam calls messages and emails gives hope to many. Imagine a situation where Nigerian prince reaching out to you to help him get out of country and ready to pay you millions in return.. or like those American girls ready to marry you waiting for your nod. Life would be thrilling like bond movies 😂
DND doesn't seem to work...I get atleast 4-5 spam calls per day..
Bcoz our numbers fail to be in their DND db. Its flawed system. Keep requesting every now n then to make sure your number is added to DND DB
Enable to silence unknown calls. That is calls from ppl other than your contacts. This can be done in WhatsApp also. Facility available on some phones.
Governments should enforce all phone makers to provide this option on the phones.
One can visit the missed calls n check for any needed ones from the unknown calls
One way I stopped telemarketers from spam calling was basically abusing them and threating them.
I got a call saying my SBI credit card is blocked and needs to be unblocked. For that I need to follow his instructions.
I talked to him for 10-15 minutes to know details.
Then at the end, I told him. I never had SBI credit card.
He got angry and started abusing me.

@@satyaambler Yes he spoke Hindi.
@@sameer26121980 even I faced similar situation but he told me I have reward points on my credit card which I need to use immediately before they expire, I cut the call immediately & blocked the no. Its like, first calling a patient, identifying yourself as a doctor. Then asking him to teach how he treated himself. And earning from his visit too 😅😅
Excellent information
Blocking unknown numbers by default will help and enabling them only when necessary, like ordering something and then disabling it again.
I only attend calls after checking in true caller
On the call blocking. iPhone users have a built in blocking service for voice as well as sms for incoming calls/messages. Similarly Truecaller has been quite effective past few years with continued improvements from increased spam. Not sure about features on android systems but surely they too would have some similar. And there’s manual blocking option if necessary. End of it all, just don’t take calls that are not registered in your address book (don’t worry your food and Amazon parcels will get delivered as they’re paid for and obligated).
What I do, 1. Never pick a call from any number thats not in my cantact list.
2. If its not spam and not on my list, he/ she will leave a message and I can call.
Whenever we apply to any places like colleges, government agencies, etc., we are required to submit supporting documents that have all the details about the family along with the applicant. Sometimes, employees of these facilities make copies of these supporting documents and give it to the next applicant, as a sample/template, without blocking the personal details. This is a violation of privacy. Some crooks might pose as applicants and get all the details. Something needs to be done.
I am in Europe and sadly get spam calls from Notth Indian call centres
Same here, I am loosing lots of my International Roaming hours ,which are charged heavily, only due to these spammers. Govt should get rid of them.
Delhi!,
True caller is the only Soln i could suggest.😊
I am in Canada and I was getting call after call from India selling Air Duct Cleaning. I gave up my land line owing to this but then I started getting the calls on my cell phone. I then got a spam blocking service free from my cell provider Telus. If someone calls me and is not on my list of approved callers they get a message telling them they have to push a number on their phone to complete the call. I have not got a single Spam call since.
Enable receive calls only from contacts mode. So only your contacts will be able to call you.
I have been blocking unknown or spam calls for the last 3 years; nowadays I hardly receive any. Spam calls come from call centers; the automatic diallers keep throwing calls from sets of different numbers from different locations relentlessly. You block one number, another crops up.
Well spoken.
And now imagine the corrupt people/agencies in power misusing these spam services/Call Centers as a weaponized tool to persistently harass the targetted individual.
What if this rule is implemented? Once a spam call/message is detected at the telecom exchange, penalize the party instantly by decreasing the data quota exponentially within a time frame, consuming the top-up value for the prepaid connections, or charging money to their phone bills for the postpaid connections.
Thank you very much.
Subscribed to DND service just. Thank you Palki
