About calling hot cues: depending what controller / all-in-one you have it can be press and holding the hot cue button, or shift+hot cue. you can also sometimes find the gate cue as shift-cue , like on the RX3. Alternatively you can play a 5 min silence track with hot cue slip mode. Takes a bit of prep, ask a friend if you don't know how to do it, but once you have it, you're sorted. And hey, you're prepping your sets anyhow, right? Right?!? About that things going wrong: always take a second (backup) USB-medium with you. They can fail anyhow.
There is no reason to need a silent track to do the drum hits. All you need is to put one hot cue at them end with the silence and turn on slip mode. I made that video a while back. Good tips though. 😊
