That was probably the most perfect line to have delivered at that moment. Honestly, when I first started watching, Steve seemed to be the most competitive-minded to the cost of fun imo. But I've really grown to love Steve a lot because of how well he took many of those close loses and the way he pulled through on the close wins. And just learning more about him, as well as everyone else has made me appreciate everyone a whole lot more. His sense of humor is a little stealthy, partially cuz I'm just not as knowledgeable about the game, but when it lands, it strikes home.
I bet the paint artists would also be proud to see their work being showcased and played in the battles rather than just sitting in some glass cabinets just on display somewhere.

I paint almost everything myself, however a friend who is commisioner painter did a full heresy army for me recently. Both are good experiences, ordering an army and letting some else put their creativity in it is also good fun.

Cawl made no secret of the fact that he made a full primaris legion of all 20 legions. And both halves of the imperium are exceedingly big and anything can happen. Who knows what falls of the back of the space truck.

You know, where there's no Imperial authority that can get made at him. Even if Guilliman does find out, what's he going to do? NOT have a bunch of SM chapters to pick up the slack across that divide, when Imperial resources were already stretched thin? He would certainly get mad, but I doubt he would or could do anything.
I am doing my best for the kids! Performing Arts is more than just acting and games, I focus my entire course on life skills: collaboration, creative thinking, confidence building, challenging yourself, etc... kids come out of the course with real world skills taught in a really fun way. Great perspective to have on the subjext
Look if the Soul Drinkers could be reborn as a Ultima Founding Chapter, I see no reason why the Astral Claws couldn't get the same treatment theoretically. I'm mean heck Cawl wanted to create Chapters using the geneseed from Traitor Legions, so live and let live.
Hell there's a good chance he did, with the totally IF Successors, the Sons of the Phoenix...with their purple and gold armour...and focus on dueling...and pursuit of perfection...
an important difference is the legacy of the Chapter itself. The Soul Drinkers fell to chaos because of unwitting internal corruption, and pursued redemption. meanwhile The Astral Claws were a bunch of tyrants that wanted free reign to be space-pirates and loop a bunch of naive, ultimately loyal, forces into their scheme. from a proper canonical perspective, it'd be difficult to make it work, though I still think it wouldn't really be too unbelievable.
@@jackdaw7792 only some did, no different to many chapters, the majority did not, while yes they were tainted regardless they were lyal to the last (two Soul Drinkers still live but are mia) unlike Astral Claws that are unquestionably a renegade chapter.
@@warden-commandercousland I, for one, am all for reconstituting traitor legions as loyalists. You get the drama of living under the shadow of their predecessors' mistakes. You get plenty of justification for why they'd be fighting against other loyalists in any given game (the other army didn't trust them, so they started a fight). And you get the delicious scenario of the loyalist version fighting against the traitorous one. That is narrative gold, right there.

Steve is my favourite play on presenter, he does such a great job of telling a story, as well as bringing a high level of enthusiasm and professionalism to the videos. Everyone is fantastic but Steve's lore knowledge is another level
Listening these two guys talk about painting from the last showcase to now and talking about Steve leveling up his painting skill and how passionate they are about their painting, it makes me want to work harder on my painting. The Astral Claws are right about these things: 1: Taxes are theft 2: I'll hang with my successor chapters whenever I damn want. 3: The Astral Claws would still be loyalist if the Imperium hadn't tried to intentionally screw them at every turn 4: Fuck Karthago secto and Tanit Koenig, all my homies hate Tanit Koenig and Karthago sector. My cannon is that there are still loyalists Claws in the Imperium. There is a Black Library short story where an Astral Claws loyalist teams up with a White Scar so the White Scar can infiltrate the Red Corsairs and tell his chapter what world the Corsairs are going to attack but it all goes horribly wrong.
To all the guys at play on, let me ask, you all have interesting stories tied to your armies and models, have you ever considered in making a campaign in a smaller scale, more story driven miniature game (like necromunda or kill team)? Like you guys are doing with Winters, but more focused on the characters themselves instead of factions and armies.
While I understand why people comission, I personally don't ever see myself doing it. Because at the end of the day, I know those models weren't painted by me, and thus there is a lack of personal connection to the army
I use a commision service for a lot of my models as well, I know some people look down on it but my models looks way better than what I could do and I'm luckily at a place in life where I can afford to do it.
I agree. As long as you don't pretend that you painted them yourselves, then you are giving work to some of our most talented hobbiests. I don't see myself getting commissions done personally, but I am fully in support of the idea.
@@TheRazmereShow If you dont have pride in your painting it shows, and you'll feel it when you put your models on the table across the table from someone who does. It's easier to make enough money to treat yourself to a lovely commission army than to force yourself to do a hobby you dont enjoy in order to field an army you just want to roll dice with.

Steve... that's the way to go!! I don't care about lore and esthetics OS the most important aspect. When it comes to writing lists it's all about matching the tone of the army. That way I will never win a tournament but get a lot of great games that the opponent could also enjoy.
I say Guilliman was creating so many new primaris chapters he ran out of names and colour schemes and that's why there is Primaris Astral Claws. That's how I run mine. Mine are also filled with non-meta units cause a guy at my local GW told me all the units in marines he thought were crap. So, I got all of them. Also, Steve you're a trooper! Idk how you're doing all that! Teaching is enough on my plate.
When I get the Centerpiece models I will definitely have them commissioned. I do enjoy painting, but my obsessiveness is already too much when I am painting less important models, I would never, ever, ever finish a Centerpiece. So when I get Guilliman, and if there's ever a day I am lucky enough to be able to get Archaeon the Everchosen, I will have them commission painted.
40K Game channels and Commissioned Art Studios were made for each other, I'd love to see more in the future as it seems beneficial to all parties. Now more important things, Bolt Rifles? Naw, Can we talk about who is the master of Plasma weapons in 40k: Tau with their ''safe'' Plasma weapons vs the Imperiums ''Hawt'' Plasma weapons Personally I prefer the Tau ''Safe'' Plasma weapons LOL, mostly because I have killed my Plasma toting Space Marines before :P
when i got back into the hobby, i had a space marines vs orks starter box commissioned. I pretty much cant get myself to paint anything after that but damn , my army looks good.
Also I totally get you on the dred.. it's just to big and gaukey, I modeled mine without the doors that fold over top of the sarcophagus and the style of like the old school dreads and it really brought it to the right place proportionally, looks good, and is a nice throwback to the first born.
I agree with you Steve, it’s your army and you can have it anyway you want, build your own fluff and backstory. These Astral Claws could be very much be like The Dark Angel & The fallen. From the same chapter but on opposite sides of the chaos line. Remember, the only rule that really matters is “The Rule of Cool”. I’ll finish with a quick question how much did the commission cost?

I absolutely love working on commission to paint models for people. I really enjoy the process and most clients are keen to give me some creative license to bring their ideas to life. One of the best parts is the hand over! 🤘

I just wanted to congratulate everyone whom supports the Noble Chapter of the Astral Claws. A chapter so loyal their actions during the 13th black crusade lead directly to the restoration of Roubute Guilliman. Truley the best of Humanity.
Here's my take: lore is made up and arbitrary. Don't let what's "canon" get in the way of what you want to do. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong and missing the point of the hobby. They're your toys. You get to paint them how you want, and make up whatever story you want. No one has the right to shame you for it not being consistent with equally made-up story that came from the company.
Look if I can make Fallen Celestian Lions/Knights of Blood and other corruptions of Loyalist Chapters, then Steve can do it and I absolutely adore the narrative of an Ultima Founding Astral Claws rebirth. Keep on and Play on Steve
Given that Cawl has done some suspect stuff with the geneseed in the Ultima founding I’m fully suspecting shenanigans down the line. I mean look at the Sons of the Phoenix and tell me there isn’t some Fulgrim in there! Also, how many times have chapters come back from the absolute brink? I think you have more than enough wiggle room to bring back the Astral Claws. You are always entertaining to watch Steve (and the rest), keep playing your way and good luck with the Masters!

I realized like a year after I started that I accidently painted my space wolves in the astral claws color scheme. I just like the blue/gold on silver look rather than the grey/blue with yellow/red they come standard with. But hey, this just means that my Wolvess can also be played as Ultrasmurfs if I really want 😅.
I know Steve will not see this because it's over a year old video at this point but: A) Love this army. Really great paint scheme and gods, Siege did a hell of a job painting it. B) You aren't wrong with the Redemptor. It's a great model that could very very easily become a Kool-Aid man. Look I'm just saying GW, if you're listening, this summer for 10th edition? "we need sisters on the channel" I agree but also would like to see if there could be a narrative battle with sisters of battle vs the nurgle corrupted sisters of pestilence. only a couple pics online and no conversions that I could find. that would be an epic project to have siege studios do if they are willing. Would also like steves take on the prime orks with chapters like the ultra morons.
I would love to spend more time on my own painting, but I have SO MUCH backlog, I just have to get it done fast. A commission paint would be an option, if you have the coin to spare.

Easy solution. Astral claws were remade with only Primaris in the Ultima Founding.
Definitely better (than) Tak’s “so there was this whole company of SM secret agents who returned to the fold. Also (they) became primaris.”

I've seen a friend who has a good portion of his army painted by siege studios. Said he painted it. I just laugh and call him out about everytime.

I build custom fishing rods, and not to toot my own horn I'm pretty good. I get to see the excitement that Steve felt when i deliver the rods.

I just wanted to congratulate everyone whom supports the Noble Chapter of the Astral Claws. A chapter so loyal their actions during the 13th black crusade lead directly to the restoration of Roubute Guilliman. Truley the best of Humanity.
Here's my take: lore is made up and arbitrary. Don't let what's "canon" get in the way of what you want to do. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong and missing the point of the hobby.
They're your toys. You get to paint them how you want, and make up whatever story you want. No one has the right to shame you for it not being consistent with equally made-up story that came from the company.
Look if I can make Fallen Celestian Lions/Knights of Blood and other corruptions of Loyalist Chapters, then Steve can do it and I absolutely adore the narrative of an Ultima Founding Astral Claws rebirth.

The White Scars were painted using Grey Seer Spray from GW, a White Contrast Paint, and then a glaze of Ulthuan Grey :)

Given that Cawl has done some suspect stuff with the geneseed in the Ultima founding I’m fully suspecting shenanigans down the line. I mean look at the Sons of the Phoenix and tell me there isn’t some Fulgrim in there! Also, how many times have chapters come back from the absolute brink? I think you have more than enough wiggle room to bring back the Astral Claws.

I realized like a year after I started that I accidently painted my space wolves in the astral claws color scheme. I just like the blue/gold on silver look rather than the grey/blue with yellow/red they come standard with. But hey, this just means that my Wolvess can also be played as Ultrasmurfs if I really want 😅.
When I was heavily playing in major tourneys I had many commissioned armies…
But now being older I paint all my own armies.
I know Steve will not see this because it's over a year old video at this point but:
A) Love this army. Really great paint scheme and gods, Siege did a hell of a job painting it.
B) You aren't wrong with the Redemptor. It's a great model that could very very easily become a Kool-Aid man.
