This is at his Rock N Ribs Birthday Bash. He does this every year and he has a wee side band that he plays a few gigs around Florida with in his 'downtime'😂 Titanium something-or-other their name is. I'm having a senior moment 😂😂😂 Love these kids of Nicko on a 'small' kit and still not missing a beat 🤘🏻🇬🇧🖤
This one of the gigs I referred to on the previous Nicko video. It's at his place Rock N Roll Ribs. Annual anniversay party for the restaurant that takes place in early December. The inside of fhe restaurant is filled with Iron Maiden memorabilia. The party usually has a couple of opening bands, and then he plays with a bunch local friends, and often some special guests. The tent is in the parking lot and might have gotten bigger over the years. When I went to some of the earlier ones, it basically was just big enough to cover two parking spots to provide some shade for the band. Everyone just stands around the outside of the tent. I feels like a big backyard barbeque. They'll do more than just Maiden songs, and Nicko will talk between songs.
Rock and Roll ribs in Florida, up close and personal with Nicko... Such a down to earth guy, here's hoping I can be half as good when i'm in my 70's??..❤
He had a stroke last year, recovered and still a great drummer in his 70: s , energetic, relaxed and great feel. Very nice and humorous gentleman too, a real character.
This was excellent -thanks Andrew! My fav Nico is from his pre Maiden days in the Pat Travers Band. Check Nico out on Pat's 2nd & 3rd albums both released in 1977 (Makin Magic & Putting It Straight). They were a power trio on both.
I got to see his tribute band, McBrain Damage, in a small club back in 2004. They played all Maiden songs plus War Pigs by Sabbath. Dave Spitz (brother of Dan from Anthrax) was on bass, who also played bass on Sabbath’s Seventh Star. There were only about 200 people there…Nicko came up to the mic afterwards and said he would sign in the back for anyone provided they didn’t bring 20 different items. I got CD sleeves of Seventh Son and Powerslave signed…super nice guy.
Heading to Rock n Roll Ribs in September. It’d be a dream come true to meet Nicko or see him play there. Had a chance to play a round of golf with Nicko. My buddy invited me at the last minute but I couldn’t pull it off. He ended up playing with Nicko & Alice Cooper at TPC Sawgrass. Still kicking myself in the ass for not making it happen.
What's amazing with Nicko is he can get the song right on all sorts of drum sets. Be it his Maiden touring kit with 20 gazillion toms, or a small, basic set like this. There's even a video out there of him playing on someone else's set that has all the toms laid out flat, and he still hits them right.
What to do when not touring with IM, play with your mates at your own rib place festival every year. His stroke was about 18 months ago and he worked with his therapists continually for ages before last years european tour. Edit to add - Who was the first pilot in Iron Maiden? Bruce I hear to call but no it was Nicko. Bruce tells a hilarious story of that time on one of his talk with Bruce tours.
Mushroomhead came out with 2 new songs. One is called “Fall in Line” and the other is called “Prepackaged”. Then the band As I Lay Dying has also 2 new songs. The first one is “Burden” and the other one is “The Cave We Fear to Enter.” Plus check out some of these songs out by Imminence. Some songs like “Continuum”, “Chasing Shadows”, “Alleviate”, “Heaven Shall Burn”, “The Sickness”, “Paralyzed”, “Heaven in Hiding”, and “Ghost”. These bands are amazing. By chance, you have done any of these videos or bands before then I apologize. Thanks ❤️🤘🏼❤️
Back when he started doing drum clinics, late 80s/early 90s, he also showed how he was such a good entertainer as well. His sense of humour is amazing with a full library of drummer jokes! Brilliant!
@@AndrewRooneyDrumsThe official Maiden website used to have “Nicko’s joke corner”, which was just hundreds of drummer quotes (later on they added other musician jokes, but then it all got swept away)
So when you’re playing with the stick the correct way in your left hand, are you playing with “just the tip”? 😂😂😂. I was waiting for it!! lol. In all seriousness, Nikko is a phenomenal drummer. I remember the first time I heard Iron Maiden. This song to be exact, I was blown away. It was my gateway into prog. He is one of my tol drumming hero’s.
he talks of his sticks on the modern drummer 2019, mentioned singers who use the sticks and put them back in the bucket so he gets splinters. he also gives advice to drummers. practice a lot. olay different styles. practice. nicko mcbrain iron maiden 2019 interview and rundown.
This is a perfect example of confidence. 17:37 - Nicko accidentally goes to come back in from the change a bar early; realises; recovers. Kids, even pros mess up but the key is NEVER stop playing. Correct with a flourish and move on.
A band leader I worked with as a teenager after a gig where I flubbed a solo on the kit told me something that has stuck with me ever since: "the score is only ever a guideline. Even the greats make mistakes when playing! But it you make it feel intentional, or manage to style it out, often times only you'll know. Confidence will get you a long way"
he have a lot of good things and personality playing with the instrument, and his own voice, which is really dificult this days, his own musical aproach with the instrument and sound...., but is something people dont say..., and its he is a really good metric modulator...., in this song is at his best!, underrated fantastic drummer..., but he dont care...., he win a lot of money....!
I'm not a fan of Iron Maiden, but I am a fan of Nicko. I have to use a double pedal to play most of his stuff. It gets complicated using the double pedal and the hi-hat at the same time
@@paisteplayer1040 Can't imagine how you could possibly "hate" Nicko...I know plenty of Maiden fans who prefer Clive, but that's about it. Clive was definitely a more "solid" pocket drummer, whereas Nicko has a tendency to drift and embellish a lot more.
@@keefriff99 I have read Nicko sucks more times than I can count, and Clive rules nonsense. Im a 40 year drummer and would say Nicko is the better drummer. But we are both entitled to our opinion
probably at his annual party at his restaurant rock n roll ribs. he has a once a year party. raises money for charity. coral springs florida, a state in the northeast.
the restaurant serves bar b que with barbque ribs and macaroni and cheese steaks. he played golf with a group and they cooked and eventually with a pardner opened his restaurant. it is full of maiden stuff. they have mail order, at least in the usa of tshirts.
I was trying to find a video that would appeal to the drummer side of you. There are other videos of Nicko just playing Maiden songs with random people. I mean really who does that at his level of expertise and fame! He was in a 3-piece jazz band and Ringo was his drum hero growing up. I have another coming. Up the Irons!

Love the reaction. I like the way the vocals went with the drums. Like a symphony between singer ans skins.... Ahahaaha. That was refreshing....
The singer sucks lol!! just screaming loud!!! 😂😂
Check him out pre-Maiden and some of your questions will be answered and points reinforced. With Pat Travers Band, for example.

Nicko has used the left stick backwards since he has been in Maiden

Nicko is on record as saying that he's against double kick on principal, no offense to the great drummers who do it.
he did use it to record Face in the Sand, though.
@@diegopeartyep. It was just too difficult to play single kick so he caved and doubled up. Great song, great album too... Terrible artwork lol.

I could be wrong, but the band may be McBrain Damage
