I understand the irony of the song and how he made a popular song by doing exactly what he criticizes other popular songs of doing. But it does help that he could sing an owner’s manual and make it sound beautiful. Popper is so talented
He plays that harmonica like he was born with it in his mouth. This is eye watering talent ❤️❤️❤️ bet even the world's finest flute players are thinking and scratching heads listening to this guy blow all that finger training and breathing training. True legendary talent. ❤️
I’ve seen these guys live and the rhythm section is unbelievable. One of the best live bands I’ve ever seen and the music they’re still making is just as good as this stuff from the early 90s.
Damn this brings me back ... They were soooo underrated... Musically Lyrically and VOCALLY!!!! "Mountains win again" is low-key one of the best songs ever recorded.
@@Danowarthemanowar Harmonica is easy to play, really difficult to master. You have to do lung, cheek, and tongue gymnastics, AND have very good musical instinct.
The secret to this song, is that it's just Canon in D the whole time. Of course, John's lyrics are BRILLIANT, but he's saying he could've said, "skooba deeba deeta dis," and it would've been the same, as long as that Hooooook, brings you baaaaaack! That being said, his harmonica is probably the best of the century.
I've been looking for the story John Popper told Howard about breaking a toilet in Toronto. Does anyone else remember that? I haven't heard it since it aired but it made a big impact because I remember laughing my ass off. Not sure if I still would but would love to hear it again.
Does anyone else remember when this guy, John Popper , the lead singer of the Blues Travelers, tried to bring a hunting knife into Howard's studio? When they told him he couldn't bring it in, probably because he was acting weird like he was high on something, he kept insisting on going into the studio. Then KC didn't hesitate at all. He stood between John Popper and Howard's studio door and had to keep telling him he wasn't going in with the knife. John kept playing with the knife just a foot or two from KC's body but KC never backed down. God I miss KC!
@@fafafooey4126 You really do! You could tell that Howard was trying to diffuse the situation but that he was really nervous. So glad this happened when KC was there because I always wonder what would have happened if Ronnie The Limo Driver had to handle that! No offense Ronnie, I love you, just saying........
My favorite Blues Traveler song is the one where John Popper plays the shit out of the harmonica

That lead singer is so damn talented
Agreed. The whole band and mix were on point.
@R Gerard Trump will be your president for 5 more years ❄️ 😭
John Popper. Yes. Yes John Popper is talented. Yep.
R Gerard get over it. Fragile ass
R Gerard sounds like a great guy to me!!!
RIP BOBBY, such an underrated bass player, guy was a fucking animal
Ironically, I always liked this song even though I didn't know the lyrics. The hook always brought me back.
Who’s watching in 2021 after randomly hearing an old Blues Traveler song on the radio and reflecting on how awesome & underrated John Popper was? 😲
John Popper is bad ass
Best Blues Harp player on this earth. Not just anyone can upstage Steve Vai, let alone do it with a harmonica.
I saw them live a couple years ago at a festival and I was very disappointed. Maybe he was having an off day.
He's still alive.
@@jacklegger3289 i agree one hundred there will never beewn anyone like him hes an amazing artist and harmonica player
Howard Stern: I could listen to that all day.
Blues Traveler: Yeah that's the point.
I absolutely love Mr John Popper. He is definitely the Eddie Van Halen of the harmonica.
This song can't be beaten. That music and that singer r just 10/10.
The way he plays the harmonica is astronomica
Still an amazing song after all these years.
This singer is freakin amazing. What a voice
The best version I ever heard!!!!
Dude has lung capacity for days.....awesome.
The 90s were fun times. Back then we thought the future would be cool. How wrong we were...
How can anyone not love John popper.
I remember walking down the street in 1991 in "the village" and they were absolutely blowin' up a little bar. That was my last time in NYC.
Battle hardened from life on the road. Fuckin’ amazing performance! So sharp and on point.

Wow!! Grew up with Blues Traveler but never saw them live... The joy on Howard's and Robin's face was exactly what we're feeling. HB 1996
Dude he brought it! Amazing band!
Pure, raw, flawless jam
I’ve seen these guys live and the rhythm section is unbelievable. One of the best live bands I’ve ever seen and the music they’re still making is just as good as this stuff from the early 90s.
Probably the best live performance ive seen yet. Simply amazing!
Such an amazing talent. Fantastic vocalist, and an all-around world-class musician.
Nostalgia overload
I LOVE THIS SONG! Been a fan since the movie "Kingpin!" Dude got pipes! 💯
Wow, music is not like this anymore, this is gold
Damn this brings me back ... They were soooo underrated... Musically Lyrically and VOCALLY!!!! "Mountains win again" is low-key one of the best songs ever recorded.
Can't help but smile when I hear this....
What a time capsule.
This song is basically a middle finger to the listener and it proved its point when it became popular.
Nick or is it the human genetic bond with harmony showing the lyrics and content aren't what really flow into our being.
Incredible talent put on a hell of a show for howard. His voice is amazing
Please post them performing “run around” at this party, been looking for it for years.
This is so damn good
What an absolutely amazing performance
Who needs a guitar solo when you have a harmonica solo? Holy shit!
They sure don't make them like they used to. Damn that was good!! 😁👏🤘
He’s extremely underrated
Straight goosey-bumps during that harp solo. 🔥🔥
Can't believe I remember this so vividly.
Great voice on that dude.
This is a great song!
Damn what a harmonice player.. as great as his voice back then
amazing piece of music!! what a band of talented persons.
Good stuff... 90's jams man
that harmonica solo makes me wanna learn to play the harmonica
Popper might be the best harmonica player of all times
John popper does that to everyone
Do it. It’s a ton of fun but really difficult. Also, know that you’ll annoy everyone around you. That’s nice sometimes.
I tried to learn, fuck it.....way to hard
@@Danowarthemanowar Harmonica is easy to play, really difficult to master. You have to do lung, cheek, and tongue gymnastics, AND have very good musical instinct.
What a gem! Saw them like 10 years ago and they still killed. The guitar player is a giant, the guitar looks like a chop stick in his hand.
one of my all time favorite songs!
No one harps like popper! Damn son!
I knew a guy who played for years and he said the same thing.
Straight goosebumps.
I just realized how recently this was posted. Great find! This mans pipes are somethin else!
What a truly amazing musician
I challenge anyone other than John Popper to replicate 2:54 on! Such a talent!
Greatest troll song of all time
RIP Bobby.
Good old Popper. Hell be in the rock n roll hall of fame soon
That was awesome!!! So much passion.
I was a Hook hater back in the day, but truly appreciate the song now. And Brooklyn Bob kicks the living shit out of it here.
God I miss these times
God Tier Harmonica playing.

Random thought: Josh Gad could play the lead singer in a film or show. They look strikingly similar.
I’m writing the script right now
Fantastic

John Popper sings with the sole of a Ray Charles!
Amazing performance before the heart attacks. That sounds grim but I wish all the best.
Well with all the shit music and Auto-Tune today i don't see any reason to bring it up.
How is this song so good
god DAMN
00:04 "These guys are real good guys"
@4:08....is the lyric "tittys" right at that moment?
Happy birthday to Robinson Robert and Howard stern
His voice is just as good as his harmonica playing. Or at least close!
Love
Its just too funny, hes literally talking about how he can sing bout nonsense and still captivate people
The book brought me here!
Saw these guys at Horde Tour ‘96 at Camden Waterfront
