@@Tundrea3 I'm almost certain it aired on ABC, but I have a strange psychological connection between this show and the CSA jingle cartoon ads (dirt & germs, Teeth, Mum knows, vitamins & minerals, dingalings) I'm pretty sure they were primarily Channel 9 Perth. Maybe just because they were around in the same era?
It’s either this show or the gaping hole in the ozone layer, but it feels like the sun is shining a little bit brighter today. Praise be to Oxtos and our love of greenhouse gases

I am really happy this show has been recovered, so many great childhood memories! But I swear I've seen the children of some of these actors running amok in Perth

I remember watching Hug The Sun back on the compound. Nice to finally see it in it's full aspect ratio, and not through a gap in the closet doors. That's what I'm grateful for.

Had this on VHS back when I was a kid here in the uk. Used to dress in the robes and tell other kids about Oxtos. When the bullies caused me to be paralysed from the waist down, it made it harder to go round to all the kids and spread the word, but I made it work! Fun times
I had such a crush on Linda when I was a kid. Looking back now I can see how that influenced my relationships my whole life. I was always trying to capture the essence of Linda, not realising that only celibate devotion to Oxtos can burn away those desires and lead to happiness.
As a Perth resident, I am very proud and grateful for the powerful Oxtos.
We truly get the light of Oxtos today! He is benevolent and shines brighter the more we watch!

I grew up in America, but my cousins in Australia used to send us VHS tapes of Hug The Sun episodes they recorded. Unfortunately, my dad taped over all of them to record a MASH marathon in 2002. Thanks for the memories!

Yep. Actually anyone with a religious upbringing in the 80s, (even a completely mainstream religion) can relate. That's why Hug the Sun was so relatable and since it was so Perth focused it certainly made me question Catholicism. Probably why it was banned and almost all trace destroyed 🤷♀️

I used to watch this show every Saturday morning! I’d wake up, do my chores, worship Oxtos for 3 hours, help dad kill any journalists who are trying to unearth our community, then I got to watch hug the sun with my 42 other brothers and sisters :)

We used to watch this at school in the last few days of semester when we had finished all our work.
Fun fact, the Australian Federal Police was formed in 1979 in direct response to the perceived threat of the holy church of Oxtos. The government were terrified that widespread worship of Oxtos Most Luminous would lead to a downfall in 'Australian values' like expanding the housing bubble and sinking whole paycheques into the pokies. When local law enforcement refused to persecute the church on grounds of religious freedom, the AFP was created as an extra-judicial branch that would do the federal governments' bidding unquestioned. It is speculated by some followers of Oxtos that many government and law officials are in fact worshippers or deluded pawns of the Shadow Man. How else can we excuse their love of foul coal and hatred of holy solar energy?

Thank god this resurfaced. I thought i imagined it for years. Told people close to me and they thought i was insane. Aunty donna came about and i started screaming, crying, pleading. "Theyre time travelers!" I said. "They fucking made a kids show in the past, and im gonna fucking stab everybody in this room if nobody else says theyve seen it, i swear to fucking god ill do it, dont try me mate"...I said.

Agreed. I had a tiny bit of this show left on the end of a cassette tape my brother taped over... admittedly he taped over it with first episode of X-Files but I was still pissed off.
I used to get out that tape and play that short 4:52 segment over and over. That kooky professor! He got me into chemistry! Sad when my VCR ate that tape, it was like losing part of my soul.

Aunty Donna *are* Time Travellers or from a different timeline but *shifted.* Their constant references to the 90's and their age make no sense unless they *used to be* from an earlier time. Or something. They should be 15 years older than they are at least.
As someone who grew up in Perth, my fondest memory is getting a day off school sick and finding Hug the Sun during daytime TV. So much better than playschool.
I will always remember being so excited and grateful to get home from school to watch a new episode of Hug The Sun...

This show was legendary in the Perth outer suburbs in the 90s, but Mum always said we had to stay away from the Oxtos guys if they asked us for money, or well, anything, ever

Arrrr yes, I remember in the early 90’s watching episodes of Hug the Sun, it was right after Agro’s Cartoon Connection and then Thunder Cats..
The Shadow Man’s shade was really on my day, especially when I hear about poor Gary. But the rest of the show made me feel very grateful for ol’ mate Oxtos

We used to get this on GWN up in Carnarvon. Me and my cousin would go play Oxtos and the Shadowman up at the creek and throw rocks at puffer fish that got stuck in rock pools and then fish them out and paint them yellow, like the sun! Linda was my fave and I went to the book fair dressed as her and a bully kid called me a fairy so I followed him home to his caravan and made him sad apologise.
YES! used to watch in Kalgoorlie on GWN, now I know why many of my memories are in an uncomfortable place between commercial and "community" TV. That uncomfortable place was GWN.
I'm watching it in 240p quality for that authentic VHS experience

Joking aside, this show is absolutely brilliant, and brilliantly UNHINGED. And it devolves into madness so well and unpredictably, I was laughing so hard and also horrified the entire time.
The pigeons that I saw with my imagination were more beautiful than any pigeon nature could ever conjure up. These pigeons in my head have a much different shade of gray than any regular old pigeon. It was very exciting. They still poop all over the place.
Pigeons? Those were clearly doves. Oxtos will show you the way.
I have no idea what's happening but I now feel a relentless urge to hug the sun.

Loved watching this with my brother after school in the shed at uncle Leo's in the Simpson Desert. We'd share a blue powerade and cook LCM bars over a BIC lighter, sometimes he'd have to go out on Navy Seals missions and we'd stay in there for a whole weekend while his friends would come check in on us and made sure we were showered and drinking the powerade.
Ever since my parents were in the great raid we swore never to praise the dirty light giver ever again! Now we pray to the Shadowman! All hail the dark one!!!
Praise to Oxtos, He who inspired to me make animations about Himself. The Giver of Light, Source of the Wind, Master of the Tides. I remember this from my childhood and it still rings true. I was a mere 4 year old boy when I first accepted Oxtos as the muse for my creative endeavors. Every morning, as I wake, I feel Oxtos in my veins. I totally agree with this sentiment. I remember in my early childhood watching re-runs of this show on the community television channel Access 31 that aired over here in Perth and the regional surrounding area in the mid to late 90's. In my time of need, Oxtos gave me the strength and resolve that I needed help me make my sacrifice to the shadow of Old Bertie. Who's current form is a Giant Cephalopod that lives in the depths of the Swan River. Praise be to the Light of Oxtos.

@@guyjcollins Oh, if you want your eyes to be burning less while witnessing Oxtos, remember to Sun gaze at Oxtos for the first hour in the morning as the sun is coming up and the last hour of sunset as the sun comes down over the horizon. Keep this practice up and you should be able to stare at the light of the midday sun. Remember if you can't stare at the light of the midday sun my friend how can you expect to witness the true power and light of Oxtos!

In truth, and personally speaking, I do like the Viking Gods, but it must be said that they are probably not real so I simply cannot believe in them.
Oxtos on the other hand has been shining his rays down on me for years, and I am forever grateful for the strength and perseverance he gives me. I cannot and will not ever doubt him. Oxtos isn't just a god, he's my friend, my brother and my wife.
