    I would love to see a video on intercepting airliners. I recently intercepted an airliner in the FA18 in VR, it was absolutely amazing. But I did wonder how you would normally deal with wake turbulence (sadly not modeled yet) and how close you can/should get

    • @cgaviator

      Good questions, I’ll cover that in a video for sure 👍🏻

    • @edwinkorteweg3612
      @edwinkorteweg3612 Рік тому

      That's easy! Just approach from (slightly) above. Wake turbulence descends and fans outwards behind the aircraft. But there's no need to look into the APU outlet is there? If your flying parallel at or ahead of the wingtip, you should have no turbulence.

    • @cgaviator
      @cgaviator  Рік тому

      @@edwinkorteweg3612 I’ve always joined from below, especially around a tanker. There’s plenty of room around the wake turbulence 👍🏻

    • @edwinkorteweg3612
      @edwinkorteweg3612 Рік тому

      @@cgaviator Absolutely true, but we were talking about intercepting ...
      That means either shooting someone down or coming alongside to signal the pilots of the culprit aircraft.
      According to EASA data wake turbulence levels out (after descending with 300-500 ft/min) between 500-900 feet below the producing aircraft and at about 5Nm. The trail can be anywhere between 15-25Nm long.
      Sorry for the lecture ... I know you don't need it ... but might be of interest for your followers. 😇
      Anyway ... the blabla aside ... coming in from below ... when needed 😎 ... should be no problem, just don't intercept an airliner by flying straight behind it at the same altitude unless really close in. It'll flip you right over.

    • @cgaviator
      @cgaviator  Рік тому

      @@edwinkorteweg3612 it can get bumpy for sure (ask me how I know that! 😂) and I’ve also wandered into the wingtip vortices plenty, especially using MPRS… now they’re fun! The vortices will spit you back behind the aircraft in no time lol! Generally in cruise flight, there’s not a lot of turbulence from the airframe. It’s mostly engine and vortices that’ll get ya! 👍🏻

    Sightseeing is always a plus in these videos. I started with MSFS on the Commodore 64, a very limited pre-PC/Mac personal computer, mid 1980s or so vintage. Basically wire frame planes and scenery on monochrome background.
    With each evolution of MSFS on the PC it got better, but with 2020 we are about there. I have a new motherboard/processor/graphics card etc. sitting on my desk. They need to go into the box. . .

    Very much appreciate the review. I have been happy with TrackIR functionally, although the extra wire from the headset is a minor annoyance. The most annoying issue has been ambient light/window sensitivity. I now have the computer set up in the basement, so that will be easier to control.

    I had the original version of the Tobii Eye Tracker, but never really used it much. I've tried a couple of the cheaper (or free) head-tracking software/hardware set-ups over the last few years, but I could never really get them set up to work particularly well, so I never shelled out for the full TrackIR thing. I now fly mostly in VR, but obviously suffer with performance and graphics, so I'd be a little bit tempted by the new TET, but I'm not sure I can justify spending over £200 on it.

It's very, very good BUT my 10600K/3090 PC is barely up to the task and I think I've spent more time watching settings videos than actually using it! Add the faff of connecting it, accidentally sitting on the cable etc. and I don't always use it. • @edwinkorteweg3612
    @edwinkorteweg3612 Рік тому

    If you are happy with the TrackIR, there is no reason to buy the Tobii.
    I actually bought a TrackHat about 6 months ago while having a Tobii Eyetracker! This was because I found that the Tobii was too nervous in DCS and MSFS2020 did not yet natively support it. I used the 'Face TrackNoIR' software to be able to use it in MSFS and because the DCS settings in the Tobii GameHub were too limited (at least ... back then.)
    To be honest ... as soon as put the fidgety 3D printed camera on top of my monitor and needed to wear leds on my head ... I wanted to run back to my Tobii ... and I did! 😂 So I've got a brand new TrackHat for sale 😇.
    The Tobii is fully supported in MSFS now and it works great. I do agree with Chris; a few more tweaking options would be nice, but I don't miss them for now. I will be revisiting DCS soon and see what's new.
    The only thing I can think of that bothers me is that my mouse pointer is also affected by my head movement. It would be great if I could seperate that if even temporary by holding a button.

    • @cgaviator
      @cgaviator  Рік тому

      Agreed! Mouse pointer affected by head tracking? You should be able to switch that off.

    How do you find the flight physics in MSFS compared to DCS?

    • @cgaviator
      @cgaviator  Рік тому

      Someone hit the nail on the head in saying that MSFS doesn’t appear to have much inertia to the aircraft. And the FBW modelling is improving but not quite there. I’d say that DCS has it in terms of dynamics.

    The Yeti Mic is far better! I use the Tobii Eye Tracker 5 very much, in fast jets and in smaller planes and found the options in the settings good enough. I used Track IR but got rid of it because wearing a hat or a clip with a cable annoyed me to much.

    Yeti Mic is better. Is Tobii better in DCS (CompareD to MSFS). I really get great value from your "instructional Videos" so here is a vote for tutorials on formation flying, Tanking etc. Keep up the good work! Question - how is Instrument Flying taught these days? Looking through a HUD seems to defeat the object (especally in VMC) or is it all done in simulators now?

    • @cgaviator
      @cgaviator  Рік тому

      Lots of good points! Tobii is better as the settings can be dialled in to a better degree. Formation flying, I shall figure out a way in MSFS. Instrument flying is taught by reference to the primary flight display. If the HUD is rated as such then focus can be directed to that. However, they will practice without HUD as well as the standby instruments.
